The Day we first met
By Alley McNally

It's been like what, ten years? Yes, I think it has. It's been ten years since I first met you. You rescued me from that plane. Our eyes met. You smiled. I fell deeply in love.

I felt like a schoolgirl, did you know? Knowing you, you probably did. How did I make you feel? You've never told me. Then again, I never asked. Maybe I should. Maybe I shouldn't. Maybe it doesn't matter. After all, you're in my arms tonight.

Oh! Did you feel that? I think it's kicking! Our baby is kicking! I smile as I place your hand on my stomach. Can you feel her? She wants to meet you. She'll be coming real soon. It's not long afterwards that I feel my water break. I see you panic and I can't help but smile. Because that's the real you, Clark Kent, and I love you for it.

No matter what comes our way I will always be by your side. As you will be by mine. I chose you Clark Kent. And that says something. I just wonder if I am worthy of your love. Of course, I don't have time to ponder why you fell in love with me. Perhaps another night. Because this baby is coming and I have a job to do.

Just give me a favor world, okay? No disasters tonight. Please, let my husband stay by my side. I need him tonight. I need to feel safe. I need him now. As he needs me.

Hours pass and finally my daughter is born. Martha Lara Kent. I like it. After all it honors the women who made it possible for him to be here today, to be with me. And he is with me, holding me, smiling. Of course he's smiling, it is his little girl's birthday.
