So I wrote this on my way home from work. This idea was inspired by Arwyn, who during a post mentioned that we only know of Yayoi and Shion's sexual relationship and I've always wondered if one of them wanted something more.

So this is what this is about. The title will tell you when this takes place. Enjoy!

Before the Beginning

"You're leaving already?"

Yayoi momentarily stopped fixing her shirt and regarded her co-worker silently.

"Yes." Was the one word response and Shion sighed. She took out a cigarette and a lighter.

"We've been doing this for a year...is this all that you want?" She asked while lighting her cigarette.

Yayoi turned around, her back to the blond hacker and continued fixing her clothes.

"I take what I can get when I want it."

Shion studied her lover who tucked in her shirt. Her face was an impeccable mask of coolness, yet if Shion looked carefully, she could notice that Yayoi's mind was elsewhere. She couldn't understand why she couldn't break through Yayoi's defenses even after a year. What was the dark haired girl thinking? Perhaps it was because...

"What's her name?"

Shion watch Yayoi tense and then force herself to relax. She turned back around to face the computer-savvy technician.

"You already know her...or well of her." Yayoi muttered.

Shion took one last drag before stubbing out the cigarette. She turned back to her computer and Yayoi took that as her hint to leave. As she walked towards the door, making a mental list of tasks she needed to complete, Shion broke through her thoughts.

"Rina, huh?"

Yayoi stopped right at the door. There was a moment of heavy silence before Yayoi responded.

"Yes." With that, she walked ahead through the doors and left.

Shion waited until she couldn't hear Yayoi's footsteps anymore. She took out another cigarette and leaned back in her chair.

It had only been a year since the two had become physically involved...

Shion lit her cigarette and contemplated.

Yayoi was slowly opening up to her. A few months ago, Shion would not have been able to get such an answer out of her.

A ghost of a smile appeared on Shion's lips.

She'll be mine…eventually.
