I can't help myself, I had to write this. The thing with a lot of Sally/Aidan romantic fics is that they have to end in sex or proclamations of love or what not. I feel as though it'd be a lot more realistic if it went slow. This is almost more like friendship than it is romantic. I just really love them, okay? *cries a little*

Hearts

When he felt that cold tip on his chest, he expected to open his eyes and see Bishop back from the dead. Or one of the werewolf thugs that beat him up in the ally. Hell, maybe even Henry. What he wasn't expecting was to see Sally clutching the stake with her lips pressed together tightly and her eyes betraying how much she really didn't want to do this. His breath caught in his throat, thinking that perhaps she had been possessed again. Maybe someone was forcing her to do it. But another look at her face told him that she was sitting on top of him with a wooden stake pressed to his heart completely on her own accord.

And then she told him what she really thought. Very calmly, almost coldly, she told him exactly what he didn't want to hear. As he countered back and told her that it really didn't matter, he could see her demeanor change from that of anger to that of almost fear. He saw the spark in her eyes when her grip loosened on that stake and the tears running down her cheeks were enough to make his eyes spill over.

"You're not alone," she said, and the words sounded so very familiar to him. He'd heard them many times before. That's what they all said. You're not alone. Yet here he was, clinging onto a former werewolf and a former ghost as though things would be different this time. Everyone left eventually, but he wasn't going to tell Sally that. Instead he continued to let the tears roll down his face, feeling Sally's hand on his shoulder and clutching onto it almost painfully. He didn't want them to leave. He didn't want her to leave. Sitting up, he finally allowed himself to stare at her face openly. She avoided his gaze, fingering the stake which now lay useless between the sheets.

"Sally," he started, nearly choking on her name as he swallowed down loneliness and guilt. Aidan brought a hand up to her face, cupping her cheek gently and wiping away some of the tears with his thumb. She looked up into his eyes and he saw that they were once again swimming with tears, her look almost desperate as countless things passed through them. She closed her eyes for a second as the tears overflowed. For a moment he thought she'd pull away from his grasp but she pressed against his palm, one hand coming up to cup the hand holding her face.

"You are not alone." She repeated in a quivering voice, the sentence barely a whisper in the quiet basement. She placed her palm upon his cheek to match his movement and then guided him closer until their lips met in silent agreement. It was a soft kiss, a sincere gesture of affection, an attempt to make him understand. He could taste their mixed tears on her lips. Neither of them made any move to deepen the kiss and he broke the contact to kiss her lightly on the forehead.

"I know," he whispered in return, his voice betraying sadness and pain. She wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him close, burying her face in his neck and breathing out the shaky breath that she had been holding. He gathered her up in his arms, blinking away whatever tears were left on his face. They sat there for what seemed like forever but was probably only minutes in reality. They sat there until both of their breathing evened out and until Sally drew away, grabbing his face with both of her hands and giving him another gentle kiss.

"Don't forget it you douchbag," she mumbled affectionately, rising and carefully slipping out of the basement, leaving Aidan staring after her and wondering what he could have done to make her stay.
