Chapter 10

Hermione pounded her head against the courtroom table during the recess. It had been a long two weeks. From finding out her husband had cheated on her to telling her children to now being in the middle of a custody battle. Ron's lawyer wasn't giving up easily. The lawyer kept saying how the children were more attached to their father. Hermione raised her head off the table when the chair next to her was pulled out. She saw her lawyer, Brad Randolph, sitting down.

"Please tell me that it's almost over." Hermione pleaded.

Mr. Randolph took off his glasses and looked at her. "We're getting there, Hermione. We're going to win this but Mr. Yetter isn't going to give up. He always wants his clients to win no matter what."

Hermione scoffed. "I just can't believe this was an open and shut case. He has continually been sleeping around and not to mention he hasn't been around to care for them. But they are still 'Daddy's Angels'" She huffed. "Yeah, right."

He placed his hand on her shoulder as everyone else came back into the courtroom. He squeezed her shoulder for comfort as the court proceedings got back under way.

Meanwhile, in another courtroom on a higher floor, the same thing was happening between Draco and Astoria. And Draco had had about enough. He stood up and slammed his hand down on the table.

"Listen! I have had enough. Astoria hasn't been the kind of mother she should've been. I have been the one to take care of our child. She has been sneaking off to sleep around. Is that the kind of home you want to place my sixteen year old in? He needs to have a more stable home. Yes, he only has one more year until he's old enough to live by himself but I want him in my custody. I have been the one raising him since he was eleven! So, please, let me have custody." Draco finished as he sat down.

The whole courtroom was silent. The judge seemed astounded by the outburst. However, he seemed to be contemplating it. He slowly shook his head yes.

"You're right, Mr. Malfoy. I was about to tell both attorneys to quiet down so I can give my verdict. After listening to both sides and after your outburst, I agree with you." The judge paused for a second. "I grant Mr. Malfoy full custody of Scorpius Malfoy with Ms. Greengrass visitation rights." And with that, the judge stood and left.

Draco sat there stunned for just a minute before grabbing his lawyer by the shoulders and shaking him. "I just won. I have full custody." He led go of him and looked over at Astoria. She was looking at him. She smiled slightly before leaving the courtroom with her lawyer. He shook hands with his lawyer and left to go see how the proceedings were going with Hermione.

As he got out of the elevator on the right floor, he heard a scream. He looked both ways and saw Hermione coming out of a courtroom with her lawyer. She screamed again and grabbed her lawyer into a hug. "Thank you so much! Thank you thank you thank you! I was worried there for a while that I wasn't going to get custody."

Mr. Randolph chuckled and then clasped his hands on her shoulders. "You're welcome, Hermione. Now, I'd say go celebrate. Or let your children know. But remember to break it softly to Rose. Remember how she reacted when you told them that you and Ron were getting divorced."

She nodded and thanked him again before heading down the hallway. Draco smiled at her as she noticed him.

"So, did you get custody of Scorpius?" She asked as she came up to him and hit the down button on the elevator.

"Yes I did. And I heard that you got custody of your children."

She smiled up at him. "Yes I did…it's just so wonderful." As they got into the elevator, they stood there for a minute before Hermione gasped. Draco looked at her questioningly waiting for her to say something. She turned to him and grabbed his arms. "I'm a single woman, Draco Malfoy! For the first time in 20 years, I am a single woman!"

She squealed and clapped her hands. "Oh my gosh. I am acting like such a teenager." She started laughing and it got Draco to laugh. "Okay. I got to go. I have a meeting with my children this evening. I'll Owl you later on, Draco. Goodbye!" She said as she waved at him as she Disapparated once they were in the lobby.
