The sky was scattered with bright stars, which was the first thing Kurt noticed as he stepped out to the patio of his beautiful mansion, overlooking the huge backyard. It was supposed to give a calming effect to him after seeing such magnificent creation of God but in truth, it only made him sad. He knew he should be happy especially tonight but he couldn't seem to force himself to do so. His heart was broken, and his soul was crushed beyond repair. He knew it would be fixed eventually, that everything would be okay but right now, he doubt that would ever happen.
The mansion was filled with people mostly in the backyard but the kitchen was equally crowded at the time being. It was starting to suffocate him but he guessed he just had to deal with it. He saw Christian and Wes talking to a couple of men, probably from work, and Cooper was seen earlier chatting quietly with Sam by the grand stairs. The tall man was nowhere to be seen at the moment though. He also saw his Dad trying to pacify Dalton but it seemed like he was failing miserably. His son had been so moody since morning and had been crying constantly. He had wanted to take Dalton from Burt, but his dad refused to give the boy away, saying he got it all under control and that Kurt should be revel in himself.
Well, it was obviously easier said than done.
Because he only wanted one person to be with.
And sadly, the person wasn't there.
Kurt shivered when a cool breeze of air all of a sudden skimming through his skin. It wasn't supposed to be this cold but for some reason, he could feel it in his bone. He closed his eyes, taking it in as a blessing instead of a curse. He had to learn to appreciate life more, that he couldn't always get what he wanted. So what if the weather suddenly wanted to betray him? Let it be. He was a grown up man, he could take it.
"Cold?" A pair of strong arms wrapped along Kurt's shoulders from behind. The man who had spoken appeared mature and much older than Kurt with a deep, hauntingly lovely voice.
"Have it crossed your mind that wrapping your arms over me would only make me feel colder?" Kurt untangled himself from the man and turned to look at him with a scoff on his face.
"You're a vampire." The man whispered with a sneer tone of his own. "I thought vampires don't get too cold or too warm…or whatever."
"Well I guess I still have some humanity left in me then." Kurt easily replied. "Unlike you."
"Ouch." The man stated and pulled Kurt into his arms again. "Love, what's wrong? What did I do to deserve this icy treatment from you?"
Kurt immediately sighed and faced the man with a guilty look. "I'm sorry. I'm just stressed out."
The man let out a chuckle. "Stress from what? Our wedding? Kurt, the worse parts are over. We are all done with the planning. All is left is for us to enjoy it."
Kurt devotedly nodded. "Yeah, yes. I should do that. It's our day after all."
"It sure is." The man agreed, tightening his hold onto Kurt who effortlessly leaning into his touch.
"Do we really need to do this? Can't we call it a night? I'm still tired from this morning event." Kurt mumbled into the man's chest, burrowing his face deeper and deeper in search for comfort.
"No can do." The man shook his head. "I've been waiting forever for this day. I don't wanna live life in regret anymore, Kurt. What had happened…I just…it taught me a valuable lesson. I don't wanna take life for granted ever again."
Kurt hummed in agreement. "You're right. The worse are over. I'm so grateful to still have you in my life." His eyes began to tear up.
Tears were welling up in the older man's eyes as well. "Hey, we promised no more tears. Dalton had shed enough tears for us today."
Kurt chuckled lightly and looked up at the man who was embracing him. He lifted up his right thumb to wipe off a single tear that managed to escape from the person's eyes. "I love you."
"I love you too, love." A chaste kiss was planted on Kurt's lips.
"Kurt! Blaine!" Both men promptly broke the kiss and turned around to locate the source of the voice. Burt Hummel was walking toward them with Dalton in his hold. The boy was clearly eager seeing his daddies and had extended his hands from far.
"Papa!" Dalton shrieked as soon as he was by his daddies' side. He however, didn't look happy. He appeared terrified, actually as he scanned his surroundings with a pair of wild, hazel eyes.
"Come to Papa." Kurt took Dalton from Burt's hold and instantly kissed the boy's cheek, loving the sweet smell of baby talcum.
After Dalton had been transferred from Burt to Kurt, Blaine leaned at his son and did the same as Kurt had done. Being close to his family, his son especially grounded Blaine to the ground. It made him feel secure, love, and it also reminded him to be humane. These people were his anchor and letting them go would only cause him to be drifting away into nothing. Scenting his son reminded him that he was a father, that somebody was still relying on him and leaving wasn't even an option anymore.
"PoBob?" Dalton asked with a small voice, looking up at his Daddy pleadingly.
"SpongeBob and all his friends are all back to the sea, kiddo." Blaine kissed Dalton's hair as an assurance. "Daddy has made sure of that."
"I'm sorry they frightened you, baby." Kurt embraced Dalton tightly. "Since you love the cartoon, Daddy and I thought that having them over for your birthday would make you happy. We didn't expect you would be terrified of them."
"He must've been intimidated by the size of the mascots, guys. He's a little baby after all. Otherwise, he would have loved to see his favorite cartoon characters." Burt commented, chuckling lightly.
"Yeah, we thought so too." Blaine nodded, agreeing. "Honestly, SpongeBob and Patrick were decent enough. Squidward and Mr. Krab on the other hand…we totally get it why Dalton had freaked out. Even the tiny Plankton didn't survive Dalton's wrath."
"Well, you have to deal with my wrath if you two don't get inside in ten minutes." A new voice barged in who turned out to be Cooper Anderson.
"We'll be there in five, I promise." Kurt was smiling brightly, his eyes crinkles slightly.
"You two aren't supposed to see each other before the wedding, you know." Cooper pointed his right index finger simultaneously at Kurt and Blaine. His expression was accusing.
Blaine rolled his eyes. "Duh, we already married. The rules don't apply to us anymore."
Cooper winked and began to walk away. "Noted that, dear brother. I'm just teasing you."
Burt clapped his hands and rubbed them together as he watched Cooper go. "Okay, boys, let's get the show started." He said and gently plucking Dalton from Kurt's embrace. Thankfully Dalton was willing to be held by his Grandpa and didn't make a fuss of it.
Kurt swiftly planted a kiss to Dalton's cheek once more before his boy was completely taken away. "Papa will see you soon, baby."
Blaine on the other hand ruffled Dalton's soft hair. "Don't be naughty, okay? Be good to Grandpa."
"Bye-bye." Dalton adorably waved at his daddies as Burt stepped inside the tent where Cooper had gone just minutes earlier.
"Aah, there goes our son." Blaine watched proudly. "I hope he won't get cranky inside."
"I hope our idea of having Dalton's first birthday party and getting married on the same day won't bite us back in the ass." Kurt frowned, biting his lower lip.
"It's your idea, not ours." Blaine remarked teasingly. "And may I add…it's actually a terrible idea."
"Don't you dare chastise me right now, Blaine." Kurt glared and pouted, locking his arms over his chest.
"Have I ever told you how handsome you are when you're angry?" Blaine was grinning widely as he maneuvered Kurt to face him again.
"No." Kurt still wasn't looking at Blaine but his lips were forming a small smile.
"In that case, I'm gonna tell you now. Kurt Elizabeth Anderson-Hummel, you look dashingly handsome when you're angry." Blaine's blinding smile was still plastered on his face. "And although your plan today didn't go well, today was the most beautiful day in my life. We have the same wedding date as our son's birthday! Isn't that great? How many people can actually say that, huh?"
Kurt finally locked his eyes with Blaine's, and swiftly entwined their fingers together. He took a moment to simply stare at the love of his life whom he almost lost a month ago. That night was the most terrifying night he had ever experienced. He had never felt so scared in his life. Watching Blaine immobile, unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing, he admittedly had lost hope. Hearing Blaine's painful, choked up gasp a few tormenting minutes later was the best sound he had heard in years. Although Blaine didn't exactly conscious after that, it was a sign that his then fiancé was still with him, that Blaine was still fighting, and that he was still alive.
The morning after was what changed everything.
Legally, Blaine was a 28-year-old man. It was stated in his birth certificate, his driving license, and his passport that he was indeed a 28-year-old man. However, his appearance stated otherwise. Blaine's hair was mostly covered with silver strands, there were wrinkles around his eyes, face, lips, and on his forehead and face as well, his skin was a bit darker than it usual shade, his voice was also a bit rougher, and…he looked three times older than Kurt. He was actually looking more identical to Christian Anderson. Even Zachary Anderson seemed younger than him.
Blaine Devon Anderson-Hummel had stopped aging at the age of sixty-five.
A few days later Kurt had noticed that Blaine's hair had stopped growing. It stayed the way it was — short and slightly curly. The grey hairs had stopped forming, causing his head not be fully covered by it, but it was noticeable. Blaine was looking a lot more like Michael B. Silver, and not Ted Danson which Kurt was thankful for. And, Blaine had lost the ability to grow any facial hair as well. The vampire had to routinely shave previously, but after waking up from the most traumatic event ever, there wasn't a single facial hair on his face like a baby. There went Kurt's wild dream of having Blaine with a mustache and a beard to play with.
Because scruffy Blaine was Kurt's most favorite look of his man.
"Kurt?" Blaine put a bit pressure on Kurt's hands that he was still holding. "Hey…"
"Um, what?" Kurt seemed daze, blinking excessively when Blaine tilted his face up slightly.
"You seemed lost for a moment there." Blaine quirked up an eyebrow.
Kurt gave Blaine a mischievous look and leaned in to whisper into Blaine's ear. His fingers were buried in Blaine's grey, curly lock which thankfully, wasn't gelled down. "I'm just digging your new look, Mr. Anderson-Hummel."
Blaine wasn't surprised at all, but he was certainly amused. "Is that so? If we can survive this night and make it to our honeymoon suite, I want you to show me how much you appreciate this new look of mine."
Kurt tightened his grasp on Blaine's hair. "Consider it done. Now…it's time for us to show up at our own reception before Cooper cuts our balls?"
Blaine let out a genuine, hard laugh before he gave a quick kiss on Kurt's lips. "I need to fix my hair first. Coop will definitely kill me if I showed up like this, and people will know what we've been up to."
Kurt expertly yanked Blaine's hand to stop him from walking away toward the mansion. "You're not leaving me all by myself ever again."
Blaine staggered a bit but didn't lose his footing. "Kurt, my hair is a mess. I just need to fix it a little so that I'd look presentable. Not all of us could look dashing all the time like you, you know?"
"There's nothing to be fixed. You're not going anywhere." Kurt's possessiveness was apparent.
"Kurt, come on." Blaine's voice was borderline whiny. "I can't show up looking like I just had post-coital bliss. People will know it's your doing."
"I thought you don't have sense of embarrassment." Kurt raised an eyebrow. "Anyway, you've left me alone once, you're not doing it again."
"In my defense, it was your son who instructed me to chase after those mascots when they ran away." Blaine stated. "And his exact words were 'Daddy, go! Catch!' And so I go to catch those monsters. Is it really my fault to please my own son?"
"Poor SpongeBob, Patrick, and others." Kurt seemed thoughtful. "Seeing a baby with protruding fangs must have scarred them forever."
"I've to glamor them to make them forget." Blaine sighed, thinking back how petrified Squidward had looked when he extended his fangs before glamorizing all five of them.
"Fine, you're forgiven. But don't ever leave me ever again. I don't care if it had something to do with SpongeBob, or the President of the United States himself…you're not allowed to leave my side." Kurt said defensively.
"Aye aye, Captain!" Blaine was back to grinning.
"You're such a dork." Kurt muttered, tugging Blaine closer. He then proceeded to mend Blaine's messy hair into a more wedding-worthy look.
A huge smile didn't escape Blaine's lips as Kurt did his best for his vampire lover. Despite looking like an old man, who to public's eye didn't deserve to marry someone as young as Kurt, Blaine was still absolutely fit. And despite his physical age, he still appeared devilishly handsome as ever. He didn't wear any cosmetic product on him except for a hairspray. Although it was easy to make Blaine looked younger with makeup like Ruth Anderson had always done when she was a staff at AnderBros Entertainment and was still Christian Anderson's wife, Kurt didn't want Blaine to be in any make-up.
Kurt wanted the real, pure Blaine on their special day.
"Introducing…Mister and Mister Anderson-Hummel!"
Crowds began to cheer as they entered the wedding tent. It was a huge tent. The place currently looked beyond beautiful, like it couldn't be possibly created by mortal men. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon didn't look as beautiful as this particular view. Their tent was transparent making the sky above was see-through. The yellow light from the chandeliers with the aid of the moon and stars, made it appeared golden under the night sky.
Blaine and Kurt walked together hand in hand. Blaine appeared pleased, beyond gratified while Kurt seemed a tad shy from all of the intentions they were getting. Seeing familiar faces in the crowd, however, such as Burt, Christian, Cooper, Wes, Sam, and of course Dalton had eased up his bashfulness. Today was his special day. He deserved all of the attention and he was going to own it.
No more Kurt the blushing virgin.
"This way, love." Blaine whispered to Kurt, abruptly changing their path causing the latter to frown.
"Blaine?" Kurt was obviously stunned. This wasn't what they had planned together. They were supposed to greet their family members before began their first dance. He glanced at his family and from his quick observation, the Andersons as well as his own father Burt Hummel most likely knew what Blaine had planned because they looked so excited and definitely weren't as clueless as Kurt. Even Dalton seemed ecstatic like it was his birthday party all over again. The boy didn't even pout anymore!
Kurt remained puzzled as Blaine led him toward the grand piano near the stage. He let out an unmanly squeak of surprise when Blaine swiftly hefted him onto the piano. When he was certain Kurt was secured on the piano, Blaine gave his husband a wink and left him there. Kurt was instantly filled with anxiousness. After what had happened, he didn't like to be left alone. And he certainly didn't appreciate to be neglected on his wedding day by his own husband!
Kurt's trepidation, however was replaced with relief when Blaine didn't go that far, taking only a few steps away from Kurt. Kurt however was confused when Blaine kneeled on one knee in front of their guests and opened his arms wide. Kurt wasn't the only one though as most of the invitees were perplexed.
"Dalton…" Blaine called out softly and instantly the birthday boy, the one-year-old Dalton Asher Anderson-Hummel happily trotted toward his Daddy.
"Daddy!" Dalton squealed as he was safely held in his Daddy's arms, making the crowds cooed at his cuteness. The boy was already looking adorable in his miniature tuxedo and bowtie.
"Papa is waiting for us, buddy. Are you ready?" Blaine asked, kissing Dalton's cheek lovingly.
The only reply Blaine received from Dalton was a blinding smile which would most definitely break many hearts in the future. He walked back to the piano, planting a chaste kiss on Kurt's lips and letting Dalton do the same before both of them took their seat on the piano bench. Well, Blaine was sitting on the bench while Dalton comfortably sat on his Daddy's lap.
Blaine sent another wink to Kurt before turning his attention to his wedding attendees with a smile. "First of all, I would like to thank everyone for coming to our wedding. My son and I…the reason why we're sitting here in front of the piano is that we want to dedicate this special song we've…collaborated together, to the most precious person in our life. The best fiancé, husband, father, and soul mate…Mr. Kurt Anderson-Hummel."
"Kurt…" Blaine said lovingly to Kurt who already had tears welled up in his eyes from the speech. "This one is for you, love. With love from me and Dalton."
"Been all over the world…" Blaine pressed the first key on the piano and Dalton followed his Daddy's movement just like they had practiced before. It was obviously uncoordinated per se with Dalton's light presses on the keys but the father-son duo had made it work. What made it more special was that Kurt had no idea at all. It was such a great surprise. "Done a little bit of everything…little bit of everywhere, with a little bit of everyone. All the guys I've been with, things I've seen it takes much to impress but sure enough your glow it makes your soul stand out from all the rest, baby."
"I could be in love but I just don't know, don't know, boy. Baby one thing is for certain…whatever you do is working. Other guys don't matter in your presence can't do what you do. There's a million guys around but I don't see no one but you." Blaine locked his hazel eyes with Kurt's blue ones. The look he received from Kurt was truly priceless. The look of pure love and he would cherish it for the rest of his undead life.
"Love, you're so one in a million, you are…"Blaine Devon Anderson-Hummel was so in love he felt his heart ached simply at the sight of Kurt. There were practically at arm's length with Kurt sitting awkwardly on top of the piano while he himself on the bench but it was still too far away for Blaine who wanted to embrace Kurt and never let go.
"Baby you're the best I ever had. Best I ever had and I'm certain that, there ain't nothing better, no there ain't nothing better than this." Blaine continued singing and playing the piano gracefully.
"Oooh, all that I can think about is what this thing could be; a future, baby."Blaine stood up from his seat together with then held out his hand to aid Kurt climbing down the grand piano."Darling, you're one of a kind."
"That means that you're the only one for me…only one for me." Blaine held onto his family tightly with Dalton in the middle, sandwiched in between his Daddy and his Papa.
"Love, you're so one in a million, you are. Baby you're the best I ever had. Best I ever had and I'm certain that, there ain't nothing better…no, there ain't nothing better than this." Blaine closed his eyes and planted soft kisses on both Kurt and Dalton's cheeks.
With happy tears welled in his eyes, Kurt leaned in and returned a loving kiss on Blaine's right cheek. Dalton obediently followed on suit but the little boy wasn't as stealthy as his daddies yet. He literally jumped on his Daddy like a baby koala and proceeded by giving sloppy kisses on the face. Dalton's bright attitude made the people laugh although some of them noticeably had shed a few tears of their own especially one Cooper Jay Anderson.
Before long, Dalton started squirming in Blaine's grasp and demanded to be put down. Burt Hummel's assurance from far made Blaine to finally let Dalton go and the boy immediately strode happily with his own two feet toward his two granddads and uncle.
"Blaine…" Kurt uttered softly, cupping Blaine's face with his hand affectionately. "That was beautiful."
"One of my ways to express how I truly feel is through songs, Kurt…through music." Blaine knotted their fingers together. "I want you to know how much you mean to me. You saved me, Kurt. And I…I don't know what would I do without you in my life."
"Let's not dwell on the past, okay? Like we promised." Kurt whispered, tightening his grip on their entwined fingers. "From now on, we'll just focus on the future. We have an eternity together…you, me, and Dalton. We have each other, as a family."
"Together." Blaine repeated, eyes intense like they held the meaning of life and delicately placed into a pair of hazel orbs. Kurt could feel he had died a bit when those gorgeous hazel eyes stared at him, making him want to melt.
"You're one in a million…" A melodic voice was suddenly echoed inside the transparent tent. Only then Kurt and Blaine realized people had been staring at them all this time, witnessing their love. "Ohhhhh…"
"May I have this dance, Mr. Anderson-Hummel?" Blaine bowed in front of Kurt with his right hand extended.
Kurt smiled brightly and widely. "Yes. Yes you may, Mr. Anderson-Hummel." He grasped Blaine's hand.
"Now…you're one in a million, ohhhhh." The tuneful voice resonated again as Blaine led Kurt to the center of the dance floor. The biggest chandelier inside the tent was right on top of them.
"Sometimes love can hit you every day. Sometimes you can fall for everyone you see. But only one can really make me stay, a sign from the sky said to me." The singer sang the first verse as Kurt and Blaine began to sway in tune with the song. Their bodies were pressed closed to one another, leaving no space between them.
"You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us. You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us." The singer sang beautifully. Both grooms were lost in their own world as the originally upbeat song was altered into a ballad just for their wedding day.
The singer continued singing passionately. He was the original singer of the song after all. "I've been looking for that special one. And I've been searching for someone to give my love. When I thought that all the hope was gone, a smile there you were and I was gone. I always will remember how I felt that day, a feeling indescribable to me. I always knew there was an answer for my prayer. And you, you're the one, the one for me."
Blaine tightened his hold on Kurt. Of all the parts in the song, the chorus was his favorite. It signified every emotion, every word, and all of his love for Kurt. "You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us. You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us. You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us. You're one in a million, you're once in a lifetime. You made me discover one of the stars above us."
Bosson — the singer climbed down from the makeshift stage and walked towards the newlyweds. He sauntered around them in circle as he sang. "In the beginning I was cool and everything was possible. They tried to catch me but it was impossible. No one could hurt me it was my game. Until I met you baby and you were the same and when you didn't want me I wanted you because the funny thing about it is I liked the show. I like it when it's difficult, I like it when it's hard then you know it's worth it that you found your heart."
Blaine stared into Kurt's beautiful eyes as he sang along the song. Their first dance as husbands couldn't get any better than this and he wanted to express himself to Kurt as they danced. He needed Kurt to know that he meant every lyric.
"You're one in a million, ohhhhh." Bosson concluded, taking a bow.
"You're one in a million." Blaine said and leaned in, kissing Kurt chastely on the lips.
Their story didn't begin perfectly.
It was literally a stereotypical story where a secretary had a relationship with their boss. On the outside, it probably appeared like that but their true relationship was beyond that. It was all about love, family, and sacrifice.
Once again, it wasn't a perfect beginning.
Nonetheless, it was a flawless ending.
Blaine and Kurt Anderson-Hummel together with their son, Dalton, at last, got their happily ever after.
