Dont hurt me! Okay, so I know it has been a while, but just so you know it is rather hard to keep inspiration for this, but I am trying!
Virginia was currently being fussed over by her friends, well, Katara and Sokka, while Aang flew Appa away from the ship that had been her prison for the past few days. She wasn't sure what to do, she was still mad at them, but at the same time she was glad to be back. She did miss Sokka, and she knew that there would be a time when he moved on from her and onto Suki, and then later Yue.
Katara was just finishing up the bandage around her head when she frowned, narrowing her eyes at something on Virginia's neck. "What's this…?" She asked as one of her hands ran over the cord that was holding her new talisman.
Virginia shrugged a bit as she pulled the wooden Talisman out from under her shirt, Sokka and Katara watching her closely. "Not sure, but when I found it, it was hidden under my shirt, so I figured it would be best to keep it so."
They nodded, Katara leaned in for a closer look, her brows furrowing. "Something about it seems kind of… familiar though…" She bit her lip, looking up at Virginia. "Do you think I could hold onto it for a couple minuets? I know I've seen it somewhere…"
Virginia shrugged and pulled it off of her neck and handed it carefully to Katara and watched as she moved to sit near Aang, leaving Sokka and Virginia alone… ish.
"Hey… you okay?" She looked up to Sokka who was watching her nervously; she shrugged as she glanced out at the clouds that they passed.
"I suppose." She said, hugging her knees to her chest. "Although…It did take you guys a while to realize I wasn't with you, though I suppose you were a bit busy following Suki around during the fight."
He blinked, narrowing his eyes. "What do you mean I was following Suki around? I went to her so I could get some training! She beat me way to easily the first time, what if the next time we get ambushed they aren't so friendly? I need to be able to protect you!"
She scoffed, ignoring the glances they were getting from both Aang and Katara; Momo had come to curl up on her feet, so she scratched behind his ear. "Yes… because you did such a good job this time! You were too busy with Suki to notice that I had been captured! I was behind the house we were staying in the whole time! I wasn't moved until after Aang put the fires out!"
Sokka blinked, opening his mouth to say something but before he could Katara yelled out, grabbing Aang's arm. "Aang! Look at this Talisman! Does it look familiar to you?"
Aang turned to Katara, the others watching him as he took the talisman from her; he frowned at the same time his eyes widened. "Where did you get this!?" He looked at Katara sharply, then to Virginia after she was pointed to.
Virginia shrugged, blushing lightly under all of their stares. "Like I said before… it was hiding under my shirt when I woke up… so I kept it hidden."
Aang seemed positively giddy as he pointed at the designs carved into the talisman. "These markings, they come from an Air Temple!"
Although Virginia knew that the talisman was indeed from an Air Temple she let her eyes widen as the others gasped. Aang was positively bouncing at this point, "Do you realize what this means? It means that I may not be the last Air bender after all!"
It was quiet for a while before Sokka cleared his throat. "Um… Aang... even if she was… somehow a descendant from one of the air temples… there is no guarantee that she can Airbend… "Virginia could tell that he was trying to prepare Aang for the possibility of that outcome but she wished he would just stay quiet for now, she turned to look at Aang.
"Aang… you know that my past is just as much a mystery to me as it is to anyone else here…" She paused as he nodded, still excited over the very real possibility that he wasn't as alone as he thought he was. She took a breath, hating deceiving her friends, even if they had left her to be captured, they were still her friends. "I… I think it would be safe to at least... test the theory out... If I'm not a bender it wouldn't hurt to check... and if I am... I need to be trained, don't I?"
Virginia was currently lying flat on her back in her tent, thoroughly exhausted from Aang's trials for her. He had finally proven to the others that he was right, and that she did have air bending abilities and had decided to start on her training. She would have thought that he would have started with simple things like… meditating or something. No. Aang wanted to see if she could start manipulating the air into a little ball. Sure that didn't sound like much work, but using the abilities were draining, and only adding to the headache she had from hitting her head on Zuko's ship.
She was just about to give in to some much needed sleep when she heard the tent flap move. When she looked over she saw Sokka's head peeking in at her cautiously. She sighed and sat up, motioning for him to join her. As he sat down he kept his gaze on his hands, causing her to furrow her brows, trying to figure out what was going through his mind, but experience in this world, and from watching the show told her that he would tell her soon enough.
He looked up at her as she started twisting a few strands of her hair between her fingers, taking a deep breath before he began to speak. "When we were at Kyoshi Island… I was so frustrated with myself… You know very well how I feel about you, I like you a lot, and… you heard what Gran-Gran said, it is my duty to protect you… When I failed to do that… I decided that I needed to get more training. I sought out Suki because she was the strongest fighter there." He stopped there, one of his hands coming up to rub at the back of his head. "I... I was so busy fighting.. And every other time we stopped anywhere you stayed close to Appa or our camp so I just assumed that when you weren't with Appa you were at the house we were staying in..."
She sighed, holding a hand up to stop him. "Sokka... I was mad that you left me... I was even wondering if you really did like me as much as you said you do, after three days of no rescue… but you know what? I don't care." He blinked, staring at her curiously. "I don't. Because whether you like me or not, I know why I am here now. I was wondering before, I knew nothing about fighting... I had no way to protect myself and … I was the odd one out. You know how to fight, even if you aren't a bender you can at least protect yourself. Katara and Aang... well they have abilities. I didn't, I was just some lame amnesiac that wouldn't be able to fight her way out of a wet paper bag if she had to."
He frowned, though she could tell that her last words were making him fight a smile. "Virginia… I do like you, never forget that… the only reason it took us so long to rescue you is because we wanted to make sure we would be able to get to you without a huge fight where you would get hurt…" He paused, his eyes hardening slightly as they moved to stare at the bandage at her head. "As it is I am going to kill Zuko the next time we see him for hurting you."
She blinked in confusion before her eyes widened. "Oh! No! He didn't hurt me!"
Sokka blinked, tilting his head. "He didn't? Then what happened to your head?"
She blushed a bit, crossing her arms, "Remember back at the Air temple, when I passed out?" She waited for him to nod that, yes, he did remember. "Well… it happened again, only no one was there to catch me and I hit my head against the metal desk."
Sokka sighed, reaching over to pull her close to him, causing her to let out a small squeak of surprise. "What am I going to do with you?"
