It was Christmas day of 1991. Hungary and Poland were spending the morning huddled next to the fire sipping cocoa. The BFF's had spent every Christmas like this since 1923, and it had become an almost sacred tradition. Christmas carols played gently over the radio. Feliks was smiling brightly, a rare feat since the Soviet Union had formed and Lithuania was taken away from him. To say he missed Toris was an understatement. His sparkling emerald eyes had lost some of that sparkle. He relished in every phone call that could be managed, just enjoying Toris' voice. He wished with every fiber of his being that the Communist bloc would crumble.

Which brings us back to reality. The sound of a ringing phone sounded throughout the house. Elizabeta picked it up and put it to her ear. "Hello? I-igen, he is. Here," she handed the phone to Feliks. "I think you want to take this one," she smiled.

"Halo, this is-" he was cut off by the voice on the other end, a very welcome voice indeed.

"Feliks? I-it's Toris." The Pole's eyes lit up.

"Liet?" he asked, breathless. "Is it like, really you?"

"Y-yeah. Does Elizabeta have the TV on? Toris asked.

"No, but I'll do it." there was a short pause as he clicked on the television set. He didn't speak again after he did.

"Breaking news," the peppy newscaster announced, " Mikhail Gorbachev has resigned without naming his successor. The Soviet Union has dissolved. I repeat, the Soviet Union has dissolved." Elizabeta and Feliks were stunned.

"Po, I'm coming home," Toris told him through the phone, and Feliks could practically hear his smile.

"You're coming home. You're like... coming home..." he was smiling his Cheshire Cat grin. "When?"

"Tomorrow morning. Listen, I have to go, but I'll see you soon. As tave myliu."

"Kocham cie," Feliks whispered back and put the phone down.
