Don't own RoTG.
He is like a leader in the sense that he is always in the front, a bold and ever-present force that imposes strength. A tide that demands action. Someone who gives off this feeling of natural assurance. "Everything'll be fine," He always grins, no matter what the situation, the danger, the fear they are thrust into, "We're just going to have a little fun."
Of course, he holds no authority, nor does he want to- everyone else can handle all that official nonsense. He's fine with being frosted glass and class cancelations and snowballs and fun times. The Big Brother of Burgess, such a fantastic roll in its simplicity, because it's what he's been all along and it's where he fits.
The others notice it, though.
He's clever in a way that not many people are, always withholding some secret smile. He's seen much of the world, dwelled in many places, seen a lot. He knows things- he can trick and tease, but he can also solve. He's smart, yet sneaky with his knowledge, masking it with mindless pranks and jokes.
However, he knows when to be serious. His brains come out about the same time his bravery does; he always seems to step forward protectively, an instinct to always shield and defend and conserve constantly resurfacing. It's subconscious- he doesn't even seem to realize it, really- but he always has a habit of putting himself in front of the danger, putting himself first in line so that the others don't get hurt. The view of his back is statuesque in an odd, ragged way. His small shoulders seem rather large when he is standing alone, strong and reliable and utterly beautiful.
And when he turns back, he will always have a smile, always some little quirk that retains his mischief and wonder, something that effectively betrays any semblance of urgency. He is a calming, reassuring creature by nature, one to walk along the light path of life, and the way he speaks and plans and steps up seems to say, "This'll all pass soon, you'll see."
"Just believe in me."
And they notice, and they hear the hidden words, and even if it took a while they will believe from now on.
Because the way he can still smile even as he is tumbling off the edge of the sky and hanging off the tip of a star is something that captivates them, and they just know that no matter what they will follow him everywhere.
