A/N: If you had noticed, I did not switch Healing You to "Completed" after the previous chapter. This is because, though we have reached an official conclusion where Miku clears up with her demons, we have not exactly reached the end of this journey.
Those of you looking for more Negitoro moments, you will find them here in these
Echoes Down the Corridor
"Hmm, that one doesn't look bad either…"
Megurine Luka, 24, struggles to swallow an annoyed groan at her best friend's antics, fully aware that she should not have expected anything else from her. "Lily, please."
"Sorry, sorry!" the blond runs a hand through her hair, a completely unapologetic smile on her face. "Nervous, huh?"
Luka nods, tugging restlessly at the cuffs of her snow-colored suit as she casts another look over the rows of chairs set over the grass, now filled with friends and family from varying times. Unfortunately, the Hatsunes could not make it, consumed by their illnesses as they are, but other than that, even Shion Kaito is present, the red silk scarf Miku had given him wrapped around his neck.
He had come up to Luka earlier in the day to shake her hand and remind her of the vow she had made to protect her beloved, and it really brought back memories to hear her nickname on his tongue. He is the only one who still refers to her as "devil", that and his prosthetic right arm are all that reminds her of the enmity that used to exist between them.
When her gaze passes over the Kagamine twins, Rin gives her an encouraging grin and a thumbs up, warmth settling in her chest at the sight. The last six years were hard on Rin, who was struggling to find a place for herself in a world that judged her for her mental issues, and it is heartwarming to see the little blond smiling again. The music industry was a harsh place, their pasts were dragged out and exposed in a dirty light, but somehow, they had made it, both Rin and Miku.
"Are they going to start soon?" Lily groans impatiently, her foot tapping on the emerald grass beneath polished dress shoes, "I really want to shag a bridesmaid."
"Lily, that is not what I asked you to be best man for," Luka hisses under her breath, internally rolling her eyes at her friend's unchangeable behavior. Six years, six long years, and Lily is still sleeping around like a dizzy teenager.
Lily snorts, but before she can rebuke her friend, the pianist begins to play, signaling the arrival of the woman Luka has waited all her life to marry.
Hatsune Miku has come a long way from her days in their little mountain village, the sharp edges and gaunt features that had marked her anguish having long filled out. Her hair is down, almost as long as the gown itself, and a gentle breeze laces it with cherry blossom petals.
As Miku's father was unable to attend, Luki decided to take his place, gently helping the smaller girl down the aisle to where his smiling sister stood. Right at the front, four seats have been kept empty, and Miku takes a moment to bow to each and every one, mumbling their names under her breath: Tianyi, Gumi-san, Akita-san and Yuezheng Ling.
And then it happens, the moment they have been dreaming most of their lives for. Luka takes her beloved's hand from her brother, pulling her close, tuning out everything else but the warmth and joy that sparkles in turquoise depths.
"I love you," she murmurs, so as not to disturb the minister. Her chest fills with liquid honey as Miku whispers the words back to her, lacing their fingers.
That is all she needs, the confirmation of love from the girl of her dreams; the vows are unnecessary, the rings but symbols, they have been together long before this day solidified it. The "I do"s ring strong and warm as they drown in each other's eyes, unable to believe how far they have managed to come despite all the obstacles that have stood in their way.
Whatever happens in the years to come, they will face it together, celebrate it together, fear it together… they will never be apart again.
In the soft summer sun, under swaying sakura trees, Luka gently leans in to brush her lips against Miku's, wrapping an arm around her waist as she throws both around her neck. The crowd cheers, the noise barely registering in their heads, and when they reluctantly part for air, a glossy perfection seems to fill the world.
Wrapped up in a euphoric haze, the pair breeze through the rest of the festivities with almost stupid grins on their faces, laughing with friends old and new. The years might not have been kind to them, but they have not been too harsh either; Luka has firmly established herself in the cutthroat world of business, well-known for her no-nonsense attitude and harsh way of dealing with troublemakers.
Miku, on the other hand, made a big splash in the cutesy world of idols, well-loved by all and famous for peppy, adorable love songs; at twenty years old, she still has the looks of a fourteen year old. Her nightmares haunt her much less now, though there are dark, stormy nights when they return, and she can easily communicate with people without any sign of her previous trauma, unless they are tall teenage boys.
Rin, too, has made her impact in the world of idols, but unlike Miku, she has a musical image much unlike her physical one, singing dark, angry rock songs about abuse, about suicide, about teenage pains; her work alongside the producer Neru is one of the most popular in the world. The Lost One's Weeping has become the anthem of suppressed teenagers everywhere, and though her past has caused her some trouble, in the end, most of it has been forgiven.
Len has joined his sister in the music business, his childish, feminine looks making him very popular amongst teenage girls and even the boys. He is starting to leave her shadow and work on more independent songs, instead of singing with her or in overall projects that include her. He is still a shy, soft-spoken boy, but he is now able to order coffee on his own, take the train (as long as it isn't rush hour) by himself and talk to strangers, among other things.
Shion Kaito, or as Miku now calls him, Kaito-kun, has long left his mother behind, taking his sister Kaiko with him. He is working in the engineering sector, tinkering with prosthetics, and seeks to find ways to make false limbs more realistic and less cumbersome. He is doing well, earning enough to pad his sister's way through high school and then college; he has made the most of the life he was given a second chance to grab.
The echoes down the corridor are no longer screams, but laughter. Scars may not fade, but they can be lived with, and time slips like a solvent over layers of raised flesh until it is, though physically present, not emotionally felt.
Curled up in bed, Luka runs slender fingers through her new wife's hair, humming to herself as the moonlight dances over her sleeping visage. All is well now, and tomorrow stretches endlessly before them.
"Love you," she murmurs sleepily, gently resting her head on top of Miku's. Warm breath ghosts over her skin, lips whispering a response into her shoulder, and Luka smiles all the way into the world of dreams.
A/N: Alright, this was meant to be a one-page summary of what happened to them in the end, but it kind of got longer. Oh well.
Goodbye for real, this time. Healing You has finished its run.
