Been a long time since I've posted anything. Well, a long time since I've finished anything would be more accurate. I got a, "Leave a fanfic in my askbox!" prompt on tumblr and filled it, and I decided that I liked it, so here it is, lengthened from its original 400 characters for your enjoyment. :)
Jack hadn't seen Jaime looking so strangely glum in months. Well, not so much glum as... uncaring? It normally didn't take him long to answer one of Jack's 'Hello's, and the silence was growing awkward and unnerving. Jack wasn't sure what was wrong, but the complete lack of emotion on his face was worrisome.
"Hey, Earth to Jaime. You awake?" He waved a hand in front of the boy who sat next to him on the sled hill.
Jaime's eyes flickered with acknowledgement, but he said nothing. When he finally spoke, his mouth barely moved. "Jack... Do Guardians get born the same way as humans?"
Jack sputtered a bit. "Guh-g-yeah, I guess so, but why-" The memory of question forgotten for three centuries, and answer known for far longer, surfaced in his mind. With an impish grin, he teased, "Your mom gave you 'The Talk', didn't she?"
Jaime visibly stiffened."M-maybe," he muttered. The sound of an obviously fake coughing fit made him turn to Jack, irritated.
Jack could no longer contain his laughter at the sight of his friend's angry embarrassment. He managed one loud guffaw before he was shoved face-first into a snow bank.
