'You're really getting better at this,' Melinda smiled, looping her arms around his neck.

His hands rested on her waist. 'I'm glad.'

Maddy looked through the window and gasped. Shannon was right all along. Not being physically able to look anymore, she bolted down the corridor.

Shannon was about to run after her, when something caught her attention.

'Okay, show me the steps again.'

Wait, steps?

'123, 123. You must really love Maddy to be doing this for her.'

Rhydian grinned. 'Yeah, I do. She's never seen me dance before, and I know how much she was looking forward to prom. So thanks for helping me, Melinda.'

'You're welcome.'

Shannon's eyes bulged. 'Oh, crap!'

Rhydian's head snapped up and he looked right at her, his lips forming her name.

Shannon went numb with shock, and did her best to scramble away from the door; ending with her falling face first onto the floor.

Melinda caught Rhydian's expression, as it twisted in horror. 'Rhydian?'

'This is not what it looks like!' Rhydian burst through the door and into corridor.

To his astonishment, Shannon was banging her head repeatedly against the wall, mumbling, 'stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid…'

'Shan?'

'I told Mads you're cheating on her,' Shannon gestured towards the exit. 'She went that way…'

Rhydian took off before she could finish her sentence.

Maddy stormed across the playground, tears of anger streaming down her red cheeks.

'Maddy!' Rhydian called after her.

Half of the students turned around to face them.

'What are you all looking at?' he said sourly.

They turned away.

'Just let me explain.'

Maddy stopped walking, and turned. 'I didn't want to believe it, but you just proved me wrong.' She took a step closer, eyes blazing.

Rhydian instinctively took a step back.

'You never went to Bernies, did you?'

'No, I didn't.'

'You were hooking up with Melinda, weren't you?'

'Maddy, I swear…'

'I just saw you.'

Rhydian rubbed his face. 'I didn't...'

This made her mad, really mad. 'What part of "I just saw you," do you not understand?!' she shouted.

As if on cue, Melinda and Shannon came running towards them.

'Oh, what do you want? If it's Rhydian, you can have him,' Maddy shot.

Melinda started giggling, hand over her mouth.

Veins of wolfblood travelled up Maddy's neck and palms.

'Maddy!' Shannon and Rhydian said at the same time.

Melinda didn't stop giggling.

Maddy growled.

'We're not seeing each other, I'm giving him dance lessons,' Melinda giggled

Her confidence evaporated. 'D-dance lessons?'

'Yeah, her uncle leads the ballroom dance lessons in the Town Hall on Saturday's,' Shannon said. 'Maddy, I'm so sorry. I had no idea.'

Maddy didn't react; she just stood like a marble statue, mouth open, eyes wide.

'Mads?'

Suddenly, startling the others, she burst out laughing. 'That is the funniest thing I've ever heard!'

Rhydian stared at her in anguish.

'Maddy, are you OK?' Shannon asked, as her friend slowly turned red, purple, and then blue; tears rolling down her cheeks.

'Why on earth do you need dance lessons? What do you think you can accomplish by learning to dance?' Maddy snickered.

'We'll just leave you two alone.' And they left.

'Well, you were talking about prom, and…well… I can't dance,' he mumbled.

'Oh, you idiot.'

'Maddy…'

'I can't even dance,' she said. 'And you didn't even ask me to prom, in the first place.'

'Well, because we're together and all, I just assumed we were going together.'

Maddy started laughing again.

'What's so funny?'

'Dance lessons,' she scoffed.

'It was for you.'

'I'm flattered, and all. But you know I cannot dance for peanuts.'

'Well luckily, I will be there to sweep you off your feet,' he laughed.

'I'll be counting on it.'
