Bailey was still worrying about Yale. How was her relationship going to survive this? Cody wasn't going to be able to come with her like they had planned for so long. He was so sure that he was going to be able to talk the admissions office but she knew that was highly unlikely. He was in denial. She also knew that he had dreamed of going to a good university. She wanted to help.
"Are you excited?" Her thoughts were interrupted by Cody. She looked at him, looking confused on what she could be excited about. "Yale? Are you excited?"
"Oh. Yeah. Sort of. We don't have to talk about it. What are you planning on doing then?"
"I have a plan. Don't worry" Bailey knew that Cody wasn't as prepared as he made out. There was something about his face. His tone of voice. It made her worry even more but she knew him too well and if he knew she was worrying he would panic.
"Well I need you to know that no matter what happens you can't go too far away from me. I'll miss my Cody Kitten too much"
"Don't worry. I'd miss my Bailey Bunny more" and their conversation about the new future came to an end once again. He looked at her and gave her a cute Eskimo kiss to calm her down. He knew that she must be thinking about it a lot. He needed to keep her away from it.
"How about we just stay in the hotel room today?" Cody suggested.
"That sounds nice. We can order some movies and room service" She moved from the floor up to the sofa and put her arms around him.
"It'll be my treat" He snuggled up to her. "Right. I'll order the food. I need to get the order right. You pick some movies"
"Yeah but get me anything but your vegetarian, gluten free stuff. I really don't know how you eat that?" She remarked as she set off to the lobby to get some movies. "I'll be quick" Turned around and blew an air kiss just before she shut the door.
Maddie wanted what every other girl wanted, the man of her dreams, but she needed to get on with her life. She was still working at the Tipton, luckily she had finally got out of her family's flat but once again stuck in the Tipton. Trapped with her endless bad luck.
"Back to my counter I go" she mumbled to herself as she locked up her suite and made her way to the elevator. Each day seemed to get longer, every second hat ticked slowly by torturing her. And the ding of elevator hitting her floor brought her out of a not-so-happy daydream and into the not-so-happy reality of her job.
"Hey sweet thang" Zack was leaning against the candy counter, waiting for her.
"Oh how I've longed to hear that nickname again" she chuckled and punched his shoulder in a friendly manner. "What are you doing here?"
"Well I've got nothing to do today sooo looks like you're stuck with me" She pulled an exaggerated unhappy face and winked at him. He knew he'd always feel something for Maddie, she was the first girl he ever felt something real for. Her smile always made him smile. Her slightest giggle made him laugh. Her sadness made him want to cry and do anything to stop her tears.
"I'm such a lucky girl, my life once again has meaning"
"You're extra sarcastic today, something wrong?"
"No, I'm fine" He knew that there was, but he also knew that he couldn't push her; for one he didn't want to seem like the immature obsessive child she once knew him as and Maddie didn't like to be forced to talk about her problems, they were private to her and would talk about them when she wanted to.
"Okay. So I'll just be arm candy for you and the candy counter for the day" Then his phone buzzed, which it had already done 4 times since he had seen Maddie.
"Who's wanting Mr Popular's attention?" He went a little red, Maddie instantly knew who it was, who she was. "Go see her. I'm fine here"
"No no, I saw her last night. Not sure if seeing her is the best thing" He knew it was probably best to see Maya but he didn't want to get too close to her knowing that he'd get hurt at the end. Again.
"Zack, I thought you had learnt that avoiding things isn't the way to go? So you're going to talk to her and have a nice day, not stood around a boring counter" He looked down, thinking. He wanted to see Maya because she was amazing in every way to him but then he didn't as he wanted to protect his future self. Then there was Maddie, who he definitely didn't want to leave, it had been years since they'd had a proper day together.
"You sure? I can stay…"
"I just about managed without you whilst you were on the boat. I'm sure I can last another day" They smiled and stared at each other for a few seconds into what should have been awkwardness but not between these two. But Maddie wanted to be alone, needed to be alone. She couldn't hide her miserableness for much longer so she shewed him away with her hands. He took the not-so-subtle hint and went to go find Maya.
"Zachary, any thoughts about my predicament?" Moseby. He hadn't thought about Marian's problems at all, he'd had his love life as a priority.
"Sorry Marian" adding an exaggerated stress on Mr. Moseby's first name "I don't think I can help you with this one"
"Oh, why not? I thought girls were your thing?" He hated having to go to a teenager with this stuff and Zack of all teenagers.
"It's just that…" He needed a reason other than he wanted to sort out himself, he didn't want Moseby thinking he needed help or even worse, that Moseby would try and help "your issues are about commitment, the biggest commitment a man can make in fact, and everyone knows that's not exactly my expertise"
On the spot thinking had never been Zack's strongest element but he'd done it this time, this was plausible. He just needed Moseby to believe it "True. Now get out of here" Zack moved as quickly as he could to escape anyone else needing to talk to him, there was only once person he wanted to see now.
"Cody! C'mon I ordered the movie over an hour ago! You must have rang up about the food by now"
"Yes I have actually. I picked out starters, the main meal and a lovely dessert. I'm still waiting, should be here any second"
"Really? Wow, you've changed so much"
He walked over to her and took hold of one of her hands with one of his and with the other he held her chin, so he could look into her eyes "Ever since we broke up and I almost lost you forever, I decided I should stop being weak and petty and picky. You are my inspiration, my love and my life"
"You are beyond sweet Codykins" They shared a kiss "but cheesy, I'm starving. I'm going to ring up and check where the food is, whatever you've ordered" He watched her walk over to the phone, he loved being able to say that an amazing woman like Bailey Pickett was his, not that he thought that women were possessions. Watching her doing something as mundane as talking on the phone made him smile; twisting a strand of her hair between he fingers as she frowned in response to hotel room service made him want to be by her side forever.
"It's on its way now, you are too nice to people. They were probably going to send it here for tomorrow with the amount of 'please's and 'thank you's you use" She let out a giggle
"Yeah yeah, but I have you to fix it for me" They gave each other a little playful shove, sat down on the couch and Cody made patterns in Bailey's hand whilst they waited for their food to arrive. Bailey loved the little moments like this, they didn't need to try in their relationship and it was simple blissful happiness. His eyebrows furrowed in slight concentration as he wrote the periodic table in order into her palm and couldn't deny her replying grin. She never thought she would have made such a connection when she first went onto that boat, but there he was; her love, the one.
Bailey's thoughts were soon interrupted by a knock at their door, "Room service" followed.
"Zack! Hey" Maya jumped into Zack's vision with a beaming smile just as the elevator doors opened.
"Oh hi, what are you doing today?" Pretending that he wasn't searching for her in the first place, he wanted to seem as cool as he could when he was around her.
"I've texted you like 10 times. I thought we could find a decent joint to get a burger" She said with such a happy face that left Zack wondering what had caused it.
"The Tipton has burgers"
"No, I want a good burger. A messy greasy burger" She said whilst smacking her lips with hunger. A girl after Zack's own heart, one of the many reasons why he had instantly liked her. A girl who didn't worry about how many calories she ate or how much weight she gained, although Maya was a gorgeous girl no matter how much she ate.
"Aha, I know exactly what you're wanting and I know a good place to go" and with that, they stepped back into the elevator to go and get a burger.
It was fine as they lowered to the floor below, enough space to be a comfortable space apart. But the elevator stopped and people entered. They were pushed closer together, their hands brushed at first then their bodies were twisted and forced to face each other. Subconsciously, Zack grabbed Maya's hand and she squeezed it in return. Even in this awkward and claustrophobic situation, they were fine. If anything they needed to fight the urge to get more intimate. Zack's other hand naturally slid up to Maya's shoulder, holding the side of her neck and Maya took hold of Zack's waist wanting to pull him even closer. As Zack moved towards her, lowering to meet her lips the elevator *dinged* to a stop at the lobby and the tight group of people scattered in different directions- leaving the two people fighting their urges that they know they'll regret later. Zack instantly dropped both of his arms to his side and Maya reluctantly did the same.
"So, after you Maya Bennett" He laid out his arm, gesturing for her to step out before him.
"Ooo a gentleman" and just like that they were the same, like they had never had that moment in the elevator and they walked to the diner, ate their burgers and had a good day together.
