The Better Half

Ji Hoo watched on. Jan Di's wedding was of a pleasant atmosphere. Two of his friends were marrying each other. He was pleased for them. He was definitely pleased for them. He could account for over seventy per cent of his feelings being positive. The other percentage wasn't quite as congratulatory.

A part of his heart belonged to Jan Di. He would never deny that. That was his punishment. It was an eternal punishment that he had no chance of escaping. This wedding felt like the casting of his sentence. It was the judge's gavel raining down its judgement on his fate.

He was embittered. His hands were in his pockets. They were fisted tightly. He wanted to stop the ceremony. However, he knew that she would suffer if she knew his heart. He had lost his chance long ago. He gave up the right to stand by her side.

He took delight in the part of him that wasn't being torn apart. That part was still healing. It still belonged to Min Seo Hyun. He still cared for her far more than he should. He could remember pursuing her. That was a mistake. He could do nothing to gain her affections and in turn lost his right to fight for Jan Di's.

He lost them both in a single moment. No matter what he did afterwards it simply wasn't enough. He could remember all too clearly the hurt expression on Min Seo Hyun's face. She knew immediately why he had chased after her. Her knowledge of how deep his feelings were, and remained, haunted her endlessly.

Could he make Jan Di suffer that same fate as well? She would blame herself. Min Seo Hyun certainly blamed herself. Ji Hoo averted his gaze. His shoes tapped the ground unhappily. He didn't want to hear those words from Jan Di;

I'm sorry. This wasn't what I wanted for us… I should never have been so close to you.

He forced himself to look up. The ceremony was ending. It was already too late to stop. He couldn't suddenly plead with her to re-consider. He couldn't put her through the same as Min Seo Hyun. He couldn't force her to be with him out of pity. He couldn't do such a thing when he couldn't love her completely.

He slumped slightly. Both of his loves were out of his reach. Both of his loves were the better half of him.

Author's Note: My Heart Loves You has not been abandoned. I can't write that because to do so I have to go over the exact words that the man I love and the woman he loves shared. The night that I wrote this story, a day before uploading, I cried over him. I can't face that right now. This will have to do instead. I'm sorry that there's no happy ending. I'm also sorry for using her whole name. Her name just sounds so pretty I couldn't help myself! Anyway, thank you for reading. I hope that you've enjoyed this tale. I apologise if you're dissatisfied but this is not fanservice.
