"He's kind of cute," Rebekah whispered in my ear as she linked arms with me at the beginning of the tunnel.
"And he's free too," I giggled as I whispered back.
"Hmm," she thought, "I think I'm going to like it here after all."
"Until you meet the hideously uptight vampires of the Volturi," I said back rolling my eyes.
Hmm," she said observing Demetri who was in front of us leading the way, "It's nice to know you still have the ability to hide conversations."
"And I still lack the ability to resist the charms of your brother," I said loudly as Klaus snooped in on our conversation.
"Ah, just like old times," Klaus said with a smile as he come between us and wrapped his arms around each of our shoulders.
"You can be so annoying sometimes Nik," Rebekah sighed rolling her eyes.
"So annoying," I said as I pulled Klaus closer to me, "but so cute."
"Cut it out before you two start making out again," Rebekah said as Klaus got closer to me.
"When you get a boyfriend, I'm going to bug the hell out of you. You know that Rebekah?" I said jokingly.
"Oh yeah," she shrugged it off, "like I haven't heard that one before."
"Keep on, Bekah, and I'll tell Demetri how badly you want to suck his dick," I said with a huge grin on my face. Caroline and Damon busted out laughing.
"You wouldn't dare!" she gasped angrily.
"Oh, but I would," Klaus grinned.
"Ugh! You two are so mean!" Rebekah pouted.
"It shut you up didn't it?" Klaus replied.
"Oh shut up Nik!" she said and pushed him away.
"Oh don't pout Bekah," I said and pushed her towards Demetri. She was inches away from running into him and he didn't know. Klaus and I laughed and she looked like she wanted to murder us both.
"It really sucks you aren't human anymore because I would wring that pretty little neck of yours in an instant," Bekah said as she pushed me towards Klaus. She tried to be serious but she couldn't help but laugh.
"Yeah but then you'd be sad because I would be dead," I said patting her on the shoulder. I sighed, "Ah, I am so hungry!"
"Heidi will be here soon," Demetri spoke up.
"Well in that case we should walk a little bit faster, don't you think?" I said hastily as I looked at Klaus.
"It's a fairly long walk," Demetri added.
"Well in that case, someone pick up a human and lets get going shall we?" I said desperately.
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Damon asked.
"Remember what I said earlier?" I said in annoyance as I stopped and turned to look at him.
He sighed and rolled his eyes, "Yes Princess."
"Good," I said and turned back around ready to run.
Stefan picked up Elena and Bonnie reluctantly jumped on Damon's back. Tyler offered for Jeremy to jump on his back, and we were ready to go.
We ran to the end of the long corridor to the entrance of the throne room. I was hesitant, a bit nervous. Behind the door was a bunch of hungry vampires, not counting the few outside the door, Demetri and me. We had three humans, and in the close quarters of the hallway we were in, the scent was becoming stronger. I was starving, and for once in my lifetime, I wanted to rip a human apart. Hopefully everyone can hold off a little longer.
I didn't have much time to prepare myself. Before I knew it, Demetri opened the doors and we silently filed into the large room. The human's hearts started beating rapidly, and I didn't blame them. The room was full of vampires, all waiting for their food to be conveniently delivered to them. Here we were, delivering a little snack to them before the main course.
"Ah here they are!" Aro said in wonder. "Welcome friends! Welcome! I do hope your flight was enjoyable. It's so nice to meet the Original family and their friends. I see you found some new clothes, dear Michelle. It does seem like you are slowly settling in."
"Yes, thank you," I said as I smiled serenely at Aro.
"Sorry we took so long. My sister and Michelle was having some time to catch up," Klaus spoke up.
"All is well," Aro said to him. He, then, turned his attention back to me as he held his hands out, "Do you mind?" He wanted to see into my mind, but he would only see what I wanted him to..
I closed in the space between us and let him take my hands. My thoughts and memories of the day, minus the run in with the Cullens, poured out into his mind. He let go and smiled at me.
"Seeing the world through your eyes, its so fascinating," he mused. "I see you're concerned about the safety of your friends here. I assure you no harm will come to any of them. I am sure the humans are very tired after such a long flight. We will do introductions later. I will send someone to take them to their rooms."
Aro motioned for one of the guards to come over and lead Elena, Jeremy and Bonnie to their rooms. Stefan was hesitant, he jumped in front of Elena immediately. He quickly looked to me for guidance.
"Ah dear friend, don't fret," Aro mused again. "I would like you all to stay and eat with us." Stefan looked at me again.
"It's okay, they'll be fine," I said reassuringly. Stefan nodded and let them go reluctantly.
"Aro, not to offend you or anything," Klaus spoke up by my side as soon as the humans were out of earshot, "But a few of our friends aren't quite accustomed to your ways of feeding. A few of them are quite new and their ways of feeding are a bit….different."
I looked at Klaus with a curious look on my face. All of the vampires had red eyes, so they had to feed on humans. Sure, the Volturi bringing in a whole lot of humans to feed on is very overwhelming for some, but still. The words blood bags ran through his head very loudly. You've got to be fucking kidding me. Caroline has only killed one human in her time of being a vampire. The other ways she's fed is off animals or blood bags they stole from the town's supply. Tyler was just about the same. Stefan, on the other had has spent decades trying to stay away from human blood, but had a breaking point recently and has been feeding off humans and blood bags. Damon was no stranger to humans himself but blood bags weren't too foreign for him.
I couldn't sit and let poor Caroline or Tyler be forced to feed or watch the others feed on those humans. I couldn't let Stefan do it either, he seemed to be trying very hard not to kill. Damon, on the other hand, I wasn't sure. I'd leave that up for him to decide. I had to get the others out before Kol and Heidi returned.
"Caroline, Tyler, Stefan," I said turning towards them, ignoring everyone else, "I think you three should go join the humans. We'll find you something to eat later. I think they'll be more comfortable with you there."
Their looks questioned me but they didn't hesitate to do as I said, just as I asked before. Everyone but Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah gave me these puzzling looks, which I ignored. As soon as I knew the other three were out of earshot, I decided it was time to fill Damon in on what was going on.
I sighed, "Okay Damon, there are some things Klaus didn't tell you about the Volturi. As you can tell by the looks of some of them, they hardly ever leave the castle. So, I'm sure you're wondering how they feed. As you can, also, tell Kol isn't here. Well, Kol is out with Heidi, a Volturi member whose job is to go out and fish for humans to bring back here to feed the rest of them. Well, I guess I should, now, say us. So, basically, they'll be here soon with a whole lot of them for everyone to feed on."
"So, you mean to tell me this room is going to be full of humans, ripe for the picking, enough for everyone?" he asked with brows raised.
"Basically," I shrugged, "I don't know if you've been in this kind of environment before, and don't feel bad, neither have I. To be honest, I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle it, so if you can't, don't be afraid to say so."
"Why didn't you tell me," Klaus hissed as he was eavesdropping on me and Damon's conversation.
"I'm sorry," I said, furrowing my brow, "the closer it gets to the time for them to be here, the more nervous I get."
"Well, love, you could always sit this one out," he replied.
"Yes, I'll go with you and keep you company," Damon agreed. Klaus nodded.
"Aro," Klaus spoke up, "Michelle and Damon here is going to set this feeding out. Can we have someone sent to her room for them to feed on?"
"Of course," Aro smiled, "I'm sure after living all her years as a vampire under our dear friend Carlisle's diet, she'd be a little apprehensive about our usual feeding style at first."
"Thank you Aro," I smiled gracefully.
"Anything for you my dear," he smiled back.
"Well, I guess I will go to my room now," I said to no one in particular. Klaus quickly pulled me into an embrace. He whispered in my ear and told me he loved me and that I'd meet Kol soon enough.
"Jane will bring you two someone to eat after she is done, won't you dear Jane?" Aro said dreamily.
"Of course, master," Jane said flatly. She was the perfect little servant to Aro. I had to get to know this girl better.
"Thanks Jane," I smiled and nodded in her direction. She nodded back. I looped my arm in Damon's and dragged him along. "Come Damon, I'll show you my room."
When we got to the point where no one would hear us, I breathed a sigh of relief. "My god these people are uptight as fuck," I said to Damon as I dragged him along. "Master? Like really?"
Damon laughed, "Didn't think this was your type of haunt, princess."
"No damn way, I can't believe Klaus wants to live with them. I get his whole point, but still, its not like I want to live with them. Still, its better than living with the Cullens surrounded by two people I hate."
"I heard your story, that really sucks you had to live through all of that," he replied.
"Thanks, it's been a strange existence," I frowned.
"Strange?" Damon asked, "More like miserable. I would have left years ago if I was you."
"I was too afraid to leave," I frowned again.
"I'm sorry if I'm upsetting you," Damon said honestly. "Let's change the subject."
"Thanks, you're not prying, most people would."
"I don't like the way you look when you're upset. Not to mention I saw what you can do. You could probably turn this place to rubble if you wanted to, and you could probably turn me to dust."
I laughed, "You're a wise one."
"I think you'd have to be wise around you. You're not one to upset." Damon laughed too.
"Here's my room," I said as I opened the door and let him in.
"Fit for a princess," he said as he looked around. "Perfect for you, right princess?"
"Why do you call me that?" I asked curiously.
"I don't know, it just fits you," he smirked. "Although I'm sure Klaus would probably disagree and say you're a queen."
"I'm sure he would," I agreed with a smile.
"Either way, you're a beautiful princess to me," Damon smirked again.
"Are you flirting with me, Damon?" I asked in confusion.
Damon laughed, "I don't mean to. Klaus would kill me if he found out."
"I'll keep it a secret," I promised. "Besides, I know you have a little thing for Elena. You can't deny it, I see it when you look at her."
"I hope you can keep two secrets," he, then, said.
"Don't worry, your secret's safe with me," I promised again.
"I owe you," he replied.
"No you don't," I shook my head, "You owe me nothing. I hold nothing over your head."
"I think you living with those vegetarian vampires has messed with your head," Damon frowned. "You're not as manipulative as I thought you would be."
I laughed then, "Oh, sweetheart, you haven't given me a reason to be…yet"
Damon laughed with me, "There she is."
I shrugged. "Just because I've been tucked away for over a hundred years, doesn't mean I've gone away," I said coolly.
"So you are just as manipulative as the family you associate yourself with?" he asked.
"Of course," I said, "At least I admit it. I can be a manipulative bitch from time to time."
"I hate to ask you, but how can you be like this and let him get away with that," he was referring to Emmett.
"You have to understand, I thought I loved him, and I couldn't remember my human life at all," I explained. "If I would've known then what I know now, they'd probably both be dead."
"They deserve to die for what they did to you," Damon said, his voice deadly. "In your own bed?"
"Yeah," I sighed and raked my fingers through my hair. "I was too devastated to be furious. That version of me was weak, but that version of me wasn't the real me. You know what I mean?"
"Of course," he nodded. "That you is gone now. You don't have to live a lie anymore."
"Yeah," I agreed. "I just hate it took so long for Klaus to come for me. Well, send for me."
"I don't know if I could've sat back and watch you suffer like that," Damon began.
"Please don't try to insult him in front of me," I warned. "I'm being nice now, but I can go from zero to bitch in less than a millisecond."
"I'm sorry," Damon shook his head. "It's just seeing a beautiful girl like you and knowing you got hurt as much as you did. I don't think I could have done that to you."
"And if I was Elena, they'd all be dead," I finished for him.
"If someone walked in on us talking like this, it would look bad," Damon warned.
"But they won't," I said in a sing-song voice. "I'd know if someone was about to come in hearing distance. When I make promises, I keep them."
"Klaus is very lucky to have you," Damon frowned.
"Hey, what's the matter?" I asked.
"Everyone around here seems to get what they want," Damon began.
"Except you?" I finished for him again.
"Yeah," he sighed.
"Maybe you'll get what you want some day," I said brightly. "You never know, you and Elena could be destined for each other. Maybe this is just your low period."
Damon scoffed, "You're just trying to make me feel better."
"No," I patted him on the back, "I'm serious. You're forgetting, I see things others can't. Maybe I see something you can't. Maybe I'm just hinting you your future."
"Or maybe you're just trying to manipulate me," Damon said angrily. He thought I was just trying to mess with his head.
"Maybe I am," I said in an annoyed voice. "Maybe I'm just telling you what you want to hear. Or maybe I'm trying to help you. If you weren't so damn stubborn, you'd see that!"
"So, are you trying to tell me you see the future," Damon said in disbelief.
"In a certain way, yes," I replied. "Others may see it in their own way, with their own restrictions. I can't reveal all my secrets to you. You'll just have to trust me." Yes I could see the future. If I touched someone I could see their future, and it was way more absolute than Alice's visions. I could also see it in the same way Alice could, and it was about the same as hers.
"Klaus never said you could see the future," Damon said doubtfully.
"That's because Klaus doesn't know," I lied. Klaus knew, he was the only other person outside of the Cullen family that knew. It was one of my deepest secrets. Only Klaus, Alice, and Edward knew.
"You don't look like your lying, but I know you are," Damon said. "If anyone knows anything about you, its Klaus, and I know you'd never hide anything from him. I'm not stupid, don't lie to me."
"Okay, maybe he knows, and now you know," I sighed. "I'm entrusting you with a secret. I don't usually give out psychic readings either, but I'm giving one to you! Take it or leave it."
"So, are you trying to tell me I end up with Elena?" Damon asked hopefully. He was giving into believing me.
"Yes you idiot!" I practically shouted. "But it's not 100% guaranteed to happen. Things can change. But I see things that point to a relationship with the two of you, and I'm sorry I can't tell you anything more than that."
Damon smiled, "Thank you Michelle."
"You're welcome," I smiled back and took his hand. "I can also tell you that you and I become the best of friends."
"That makes me happy," Damon said honestly.
"Shh," I said quickly, "no more about that stuff now. Jane is coming."
"Good," he said, "I'm starving."
"Me too," I agreed.
Jane came up and knocked on the door, and I invited her inside. With her she had a male human in his twenties. He looked alarmed to say the least. I had to ignore that, and the fact that he was about to be screaming.
"Thank you, Jane," I said with a smile as I got off of my bed where I was sitting. "Stay for a minute, won't you? Have a seat."
"Thank you," Jane said as she sat in a chair at the corner of the room.
"Damon," I said as I nodded towards the human. He smiled, showing off his razor sharp teeth, and rushed over to the human and took a bite. I joined him and did the same. The guy only screamed for a few seconds before Damon and I finished him off together.
"I can definitely get used to that," I said as I wiped my mouth. "Fresh, human, blood. You just can't beat it."
"It's nice to see you're adjusting quicker than we thought," Jane said, almost smiling.
"You've underestimated her," Damon said, his head cocked to the side.
"Yes, and for that I apologize," Jane said. "I, honestly, thought you'd run in the opposite direction of any human we offered up for food."
I laughed, "Don't worry, I kinda thought the same myself, of myself. I thought I'd hate it all."
"You were very wrong," Jane said with a hint of a smile on her face.
"Yes, dear Jane, I was," I agreed. "You know, you and I need to have some girl time sometime soon."
"We should," she agreed, a genuine smile on her face.
"You can go now," I said to her, "I'm sure your brother is waiting."
"See you soon?" she asked.
"Definitely," I agreed.
She left the room and I gave her some time to get away before I started talking with Damon again.
"That poor girl," I said shaking my head, "She follows Aro's every word. I guess that's what happens when someone saves you from death. You know her and her brother were being burned at the stake for being witches before Aro saved them and turned them. That's where her power of pain comes. It's a damn shame they were killed before they lived up to their full potential."
"They're young," Damon observed, "almost too young."
I nodded, "Right at the border of being an immortal child. But, they have matured."
"Is the coast clear?" Damon asked after a few moments of silence.
"It is," I nodded again.
"So about us becoming best friends," Damon began.
I laughed, "Yes?"
"How will Klaus feel about our friendship. I know he's not my biggest fan."
I giggled, "He learns to love it. He likes me being happy, and us being friends makes me very happy."
"Does he ever figure out my little crush on you?" he asked as he wiggled his eyebrows playfully.
"He knows you'd rather have Elena than me, he gets over it," I shrugged.
"Damn," Damon muttered, "I kinda wanted to piss him off."
I laughed, "Well it kind of does. I do find you extremely attractive. In another world, I totally would pursue you."
"Is that so?" Damon said as he raised his brows.
"Totally," I admitted, "hell, you're hot, totally my type."
"You know you're really boosting my ego right now," Damon said with a big smile on his face.
"I know," I said with a wink.
Damon laughed, "This is going to be an extremely beautiful friendship."
"We're a hot squad," I said with a smile. "Oh, yay," I said as I heard familiar footsteps coming down the hall, "Klaus is coming."
"He alone?" Damon asked.
"Nope," I shook my head, "the rest of the Original family is coming."
"Should I leave?" he asked.
"No! I want you here, we're hanging new bestie," I said with a smile.
"Hello gorgeous," Klaus' younger brother chimed as he burst in the door.
"Hi," I said with a big smile before Kol came up and gave me a huge hug.
"You have no idea how hard it was to resist ripping the head off of that huge bastard," Kol said to me as he held onto me a little longer. "And that blonde bitch, oh I wanted to rearrange her face. Everyone thinks she's so beautiful. Please, love, you are way more beautiful than she is."
"Thank you Kol," I said with a laugh.
"I'm serious, love," he said with a smile as he pulled away and then kissed me on the cheek.
"You two haven't even properly met and he loves you already," Klaus mused as he fished me out of Kol's arms and into his own.
"She has that kind of effect on people," Damon said with a smile. Klaus gave Damon a dirty look making Damon finch and say, "I'm starting to learn."
"Don't mind him," I said as I hugged Klaus tighter, "he's my new best friend."
"What about me?" Rebekah asked offensively.
"A girl can have more than one best friend," I said defensively.
"I want to be your best friend," Kol said with a frown.
"You're family, Kol," I said in disbelief. To me, family is closer than friends.
"True," Kol nodded and thought.
"I'm glad all of you are getting along," Klaus said with a smile as he kissed me on top of my head.
"You should have known we would," I said.
"I knew you'd get along with the family, I just wasn't sure about the others," Klaus replied.
"Ah, well, Damon's cool," I shrugged. "Although, I do see he can be an ass sometimes," I said as I stuck my tongue out at Damon.
"Oh shut it princess," Damon said with a smile on his face.
"So, what shall we do?" Klaus asked as he looked at me.
"I don't know," I said as I thought. "The humans are tired so I think they should rest. Maybe us vampires and the hybrid should hang out in here."
"Sounds like a plan," Klaus agreed.
