Starlight Express Drabble
"Flat Top 'o you lookin' at?
Yeah the'e bricks
Wot's wrong wit dat?
No yer roight they dun all match,
Yes the'e 'eavy
'Ere catch!"
Well hello there, so you're the one who caught me. Yes, yes, I know… I'm a brick, and
I'm not supposed to talk. But then, trains aren't supposed to sing and dance either. Master
Flat Top, as you can see, is one of these cars.
I'm not much of a brick, quite like all the others on his bed. For some reason though, he
took a liking to me. Now he carries me around on a chain with him everywhere. Not that
I mind. I'd much rather be with him, traveling all over the place, than stuck in some wall
of some building in some town.
The places I've been and the things I've seen with Master Flat Top; are too many to tell.
The other bricks on his bed have no idea what they're in for, but I know, I've seen.
They're all stuck up, so proud of their many colours, shapes and sizes. They like to poke
fun at me for being dented and scraped, but I don't care. They go from one place, to
another, and then are stuck in a wall until they get broken down or crushed. I may not be
in perfect shape, but I'll be around much longer than them.
Well… here comes Master Flat Top. It was a pleasure telling you my story. Hope you
enjoyed it, maybe next time you see a brick wall, or a train, you'll think of Master Flat
Top and me.
Bye for now.
