Rodolphus Lestrange wasn't an idiot; he had been one of the smartest Wizards in his year at Hogwarts, so why did he do it? Why did he stay with a woman who had never loved him?

He knew why; it was because of blood purity; he knew that the real reason Bellatrix Black had even agreed to marry him was to make sure that she carried on with the Pureblood line.

Rodolphus could see that Bellatrix had never loved him, he could see it in the way that Bellatrix looked at the Dark Lord and then looked at him.

She would often look at the Dark Lord with admiration and lust; she didn't even care if somebody else was watching her.

He knew that the Dark Lord would never do anything to Bellatrix in the way that he knew that Bellatrix so desperately wanted and as little comfort as that was it brought great satisfaction to him.

He could never do anything to go against the Dark Lord; which was why he would be silent and watch as his new wife made herself look like a fool in front of the Dark Lord.
