Avenging The Past Chapter 34

Ron and Hermione brought baby Hugo home from the hospital a few days later and were settling back into their regular routine. Ron had started to go back to work part time to make up for all the shifts he missed when Rose was recovering, but he still had enough time to spend at home with the new baby.

Rose was also adjusting to the idea of having another person sharing the attention of her mummy and daddy - which she was not necessarily pleased about. She also was not thrilled with the crying that woke her up in the middle of the night, accompanied by the constant pacing the went on directly outside her room. Hugo was actually fairly quiet for a baby, but of course Rose would not know that she was actually louder when she was a baby.

Of course this night was no different, and the fussing outside the hall awoke little Rose and she began to cry as well. It took at least one of the parents a couple minutes before they could differentiate the cries of their children and discover that the baby was not the only one upset at the moment. Hermione nursed Hugo while Ron went to comfort his baby girl.

"What's wrong princess?" Ron cooed, giving into Rose's reaching arms and pulling he onto his lap as he sat down on the tiny pink bed.

"Baby too loud and Rosie can't sleep," she whined thrusting her wet face into his neck and rubbing her eyes tiredly.

"I know pumpkin, I know," Ron cooed stroking her bright red curls, "but soon Hugo will sleep all night like us," he explained.

"Why can't he sleep now?" she demanded, crying angry tears.

"Because he is just a little baby, sweetheart," Ron soothed rubbing her tiny back. "How about I put a silencing charm on your door?" Ron offered. Rose nodded her head against him and snuggled closer. "Okay let me just go get my wand honey, then I will be right back," he said giving her a kiss on the forehead and rushing out of the room, stopping to kiss a tired Hermione on the cheek.

Ron cast a silencing charm around Rose's door when he returned and began to tuck her in, the room now silent.

"Now you can sleep love," Ron said pulling her princess blanket up to her chin.

"Thank you daddy," Rose said, eyes already drooping.

"Your welcome baby girl." Ron gave her a tender kiss on the nose before standing up from her bed. "Night pumpkin," he bid, only getting a snore for an answer. He smirked and then went to sooth his other child.

"How you holding up love?" Ron asked quietly, coming up from behind Hermione and placing his hands on her shoulders.

"Well he has been fed and changed, just needs to be burped, then he should fall right asleep," Hermione said, patting the crying baby on the back. "As for me, I am about to pass out," she said tiredly.

"Let me take him," Ron offered kissing her crown and helping her shift the baby carefully from her arms to his.

Hermione sighed loudly as she collapsed into the rocking chair. She closed her eyes and rocked back and forth slowly in the chair, Hugo now only whimpering quietly. A regurgitating noise came from Hugo as he spit up on the towel Ron had thrown over his shoulder.

"That's it buddy," Ron said as quiet as possible so he wouldn't disturb Hermione. He rocked Hugo for a few minutes longer until he was fast asleep. He kissed Hugo lightly then placed him in the crib carefully. Ron gently woke Hermione and led her silently out of the nursery. "Let's get as much sleep as we can before he wakes again," he said ripping off his work jacket and loosening his tie.

Hermione collapsed on their bed and didn't even bother to pull the covers over herself. Ron went into the bathroom to brush his teeth and came back to find Hermione snoring lightly. He laughed and climbed in beside her, pulling the duvet over both of them. Ron's last thought before falling asleep was a prayer that Hugo would remain asleep because he had to go to work in the morning.

Ron's eyes felt like glue when he tried to open them as the alarm clock rang signalling it was 6:30. He rolled over and saw that Hermione was not beside him, probably with the baby. Hugo had woken up two times that night - which was the best yet, so Ron felt slightly grateful for the extra sleep.

He changed quickly into his clothes and walked to the nursery to find Hermione peacefully feeding Hugo.

"Morning sweetie," Hermione greeted when she saw Ron watching her from the doorway.

"Morning love," he repeated moving into the room to kiss her and the baby softly. "Rosie up yet?"

"Yeah she's eating breakfast downstairs," she said. Rose was an early riser like her mother so Ron was usually the last one up even at 6:30 in the morning.

Ron left the nursery to go find Rose, who was eating a bowl of cereal messily at the table in her booster seat.

"Good morning my Rosie-Posie," Ron said noisily kissing her on the cheek.

"Daddy!" Rose cheered causing milk to dribble down her already dirty chin. Ron chuckled and wiped her face with a napkin. "You have to go to work today daddy?" asked Rose sadly.

"Yeah sweetheart," Ron said glumly.

"But I want you to stay home and play daddy!" she whined banging her fists on the table.

Rose had not been a fan of Ron going to work ever since Hugo had been born because Hermione's attention was mostly towards him. Of course it had to be like that because he was only a couple weeks old. This meant that when Ron wasn't fussing with Hugo as well, Rose always wanted him to spend time with her because she was lonely.

Ron took a deep breath and replied "sorry baby I can't," but he knew he was so close to giving in and calling into work sick.

Ron grabbed a bowl and poured some cereal for himself and sat down beside Rose who was pouting into her bowl. Hermione came down with Hugo a few minutes later and sat him in the baby swing in the living room that was visual to the kitchen.

"Off to work then love?" Hermione asked as Ron got up and flicked his bowl clean and back into the cabinet.

"Yeah, I promise I will be home early though," he said pulling his jacket on and kissing Hermione.

"Okay then I will have dinner ready," Hermione smiled as Ron moved to give Rose a big kiss on the cheek and tickled her trying to make her smile. "And I am going to play with little miss Rosie all night," he told Rose and she clapped her hands happily. He smiled then moved into the living room to say goodbye to baby Hugo. "You look after the girls alright little bud," he told the baby as he stroked the small arm that was waving excitedly. He placed a kiss on Hugo before moving to kiss Hermione again, then he was off to work.

Hermione spent the entire day catching up on some chores while Hugo napped and Rose rotated between colouring with her new crayons, or helping (making things more difficult) Hermione. Hermione was doing the laundry and Rose was making a fort out of the clothes that Hermione had finished washing and was about to fold.

"C'mon Rosie, I have to finish making the bed," Hermione laughed as she watched the lump in the sheets shift slightly.

"Rosie not here!" she sang through the fabric.

"But-" Hermione started but turned around suddenly when she felt someone behind her. She jumped when she saw her husband standing there grinning with a happy Hugo cradled carefully in his arms. He silently handed him to Hermione and moved over to the bed.

"I'm hungry monster looking for some little red head girls to eat!" he said in a booming voice towering over the lumpy sheet. Rose gave a little giggle and curled into a smaller ball. "I guess I just have to come and get them myself!" he said and stomped over to the bed with heavy steps, causing the giggles from under the covers to increase.

Suddenly, he jumped onto the bed and started tickling the lump. Rose wriggled and eventually her head shot out of the top of the sheet. Ron took advantage of the situation and started to blow raspberries into her neck. Hugo thought this looked like fun and clapped his little hands and squealed happily. Ron slung Rose up onto his shoulders and kissed Hermione on the cheek as he led the way to the living room.

"I brought some gifts home from work Rosie!" Ron said as he dropped her lightly onto the couch.

"Presents?!" she cheered.

"Yes you've grown on some of the people your daddy works with," he told her pulling a couple nicely wrapped gifts out of his work bag.

Rose eagerly grabbed the parcels out of his hands and plunked herself down on the carpet in the living room. Hermione rolled her eyes and went to sit beside her and placed Hugo in her lap. Hugo giggled as Rose rolled the tissue paper into balls and threw them up in the air and made a joke about it snowing. Ron leaned against the counter and watched his little family from the kitchen. Hermione and Rose had just engaged in a peek-a-boo game with Hugo using the Chuddley Cannons hand puppets she had just unwrapped.

Hermione was wearing a short sleeved shirt that exposed the slightly faded, but still just as threatening scar that Bellatrix had given her all those years ago. He then looked from his wife's arm to his daughter, then to his newborn son who was so tiny and innocent looking in his the love of his life's arms.

He pondered on the fact that three of the strongest people in the wizarding world (in his eyes) were sitting in his living room and were all related to him. Hermione had proved her strength way back when they were teenagers, and Rose just several months earlier, and tiny Hugo when he grew in his mummy's stomach while she was trapped back in the cellar and constantly sleeping on the floor by Rose's hospital bed.

Voldemort, Bellatrix, Scabior, deatheaters, appendix, coma, all tried to destroy Ronald Weasley's family, but they proved that, nothing, nothing, could take down the Weasley's.
