Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or Bleach.
Last Time: "I call you My Lady because you are." He answered, "My lady Kagome and I would be pleased to make it official."
A huge smile was curved into the mouth of Kagome. All night she had restlessly lay in her bed. The same words ran through her head over and over again. Byakuya had made her heart flutter and burst with happiness all at the same time after he said those words. She was his lady and he wanted everyone to know. It had been so long since she had felt so cherished and wanted.
She hardly got any sleep and when morning finally dawned she couldn't do anything but lay in her bed with a grin on her face. All of the happiness seemed to affect those around her as well. When she had returned to her home after being with Byakuya her mood was sky high. The arguing that had been going on in her home immediately ceased when she had come through the door. Everyone had suddenly had tranquility fall over them. All were at peace.
It was one thing that she had unintentionally shared with her powers. She strived to never mess with another beings mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional status with her powers. But this time she couldn't much help it. Her mind was overloaded with the euphoria of happiness and she couldn't help but share it. And she was not going to apologize for it either.
If it wasn't for the noise downstairs she wouldn't even get out of bed. It seemed her mood wasn't affecting those of the household anymore and Inuyasha was back to hounding the panther. And from the clash downstairs and the yelling the dog was punched by a Capricorn. Hopefully that didn't leave a hole or a dent in her wall or walls. You never knew with those of super strength it could be all the way out into her yard.
With a heavy sigh Kagome drug herself out of her daydreams and out of her fluffy bed. She slipped a silk robe around her shoulder and a pair of slippers on her feet and headed out her door to go down the stairs to inspect the damage.
When she arrived at the foot of the stairs everyone was congregated. Turns out that her walls didn't suffer any damage at all but there was a small crack on her marble floor. Nelliel had finally had enough of the dog/cat battle and had knocked the hell out of both of them. Both men lay unconscious on her floor. Inuyasha was on his stomach just lying there but Grimmjow's head was in Nelliel's lap and she was nursing the bump she had placed on his head. She didn't need to be told what had happened she just knew.
Kagome rolled her eyes at the people around her. The floor was going to be an easy fix. They were always easier to fix than walls. Still she wished that the marble hadn't been cracked. With an uninterested wave of her hand she fixed her floor and then set about to getting ready for the day. Everything about the day seemed to just be brighter and just so much more relaxed. She could only account it for being his fault. It was all Byakuya Kuchiki's doing for the day being brighter. She had always been told that everything seems better when you are happy with love and it was true.
With a quick step she bounded back up her stairs and back to her room. She just wanted to be by herself with the happiness that was trying to burst her heart but it wasn't to be. As she stepped into her room she saw that she wasn't alone. On her bed was her son, Shippo, grinning like a Cheshire cat. He had an all knowing look on his face and pure cockiness in his eyes.
"What?" she asked.
"I'm glad. You deserve to be happy." He answered.
Kagome smiled and leaned against the door. She leaned her head back against it and sighed deeply, "Is it that telling?" she asked him.
"Very. A woman in love always has a telling scent. It's disturbing that as your child I can smell these things but it is another piece to get used to." Shippo answered with a wide smile.
"Great Kami alive!" she whispered aghast, her face red.
"What?" he asked with a cocky grin, "It doesn't smell bad. Females in true love smell of happiness, sweet kisses, and lots of hot sex."
She did exactly what he knew she would. Freak out! Even though she had lived out the centuries and was very old, she in some was still very much like an innocent young teenager. It was a true fact that he had stated and it hadn't been meant to embarrass her - yes it had he was a kitsune. Mother or not it was totally meant that way but he was so happy for her. And still it was better that he said it instead of Inuyasha. Yeah anyone that knew and had witnessed the history of their little gang could say that she would bury the hanyou. He would say it out loud for all to hear.
"Oh My Buddha! What? Why?" she was freaking.
"It can't be helped. You're in love and I'm a demon. It's just nature and that can't be changed. But just think; would you prefer I mention to you first or Inuyasha? You know that he would just say something in public for everyone to hear. And you would be completely unprepared. But now you are prepared." Shippo said with a grin that reminded her all the more that he was indeed a fox.
Kagome eyed her son with suspicion. He was right about Inuyasha but he was up to something. He was a fox there was no way that he wasn't up to something. She knew him all too well. She raised him after all. A mother knows there child.
"You are up to something." She said to him.
"Of course I am. I always am." Shippo said with a wide grin. "You're my mother after all. What kind of son would I be if I didn't make sure that my mother had a happy eternity?"
"I could say the same thing." Kagome retorted.
Shippo had a look of horror on his face. She had played the "Give me grandchildren" card. There was no way that she was going to allow him to mess with her life without getting in a few shots of her own with his. He wanted to mess with her life and now he was going to find himself with her dabbling around with his. She was the Goddess of Souls after all and she could find a match to a soul if need be.
"Go ahead. I know you want me to back off but I'm not going to. Do your worst mom, I will still be here making sure that you get some happiness." He stated proudly.
It was moments like that that made Kagome proud that he was her baby boy. It also made her proud of herself. She had raised an amazing little boy. Well he wasn't so little anymore. He towered over her, as most demons did. Especially the males. He was so handsome now. Oh, he was an adorable little thing as a child and attracted the little girls like flies and now he was a very handsome heartbreaker. It was so hard for her to believe that he never had a steady relationship. It was also disappointing too. She wanted him to have the same happiness that he was determined to give her.
"I love you." Kagome said with a barely there smile.
"I know." He retorted, "Otherwise why would you have ever put up with a mischievous kit like me?"
Kagome rolled her eyes. Typical kitsune, always fishing for compliments about themselves. Very vain demons sometimes narcissistic. Never mind sometimes, oh no, those demons were downright always narcissistic.
"Stop fishing! Get out of here and let me get ready for the day." Kagome scolded.
"Yes, mom." He answered and left.
Kagome rolled her eyes as he left. She didn't know what she was going to do with him. She didn't believe that any mother knew just what to do with their children when they got to a certain age. She was sure that her own mother felt the same way about Souta and her. And speaking of her mother she needed to find her. They had a talk that needed to be commenced. She had promised that she would clarify everything the best that she could.
Kagome took her time as she went around her home to get to her mother. She wanted to have everything straight in her mind before she reached her library. Her mother would want to know everything and what they were going to do to protect everyone. Knowing her mother she would try to do something to help. If she could have gotten to the past to help with the jewel she would have. That's just how she is.
Much sooner than she wanted the library doors were in front of her face. She sighed heavily and placed her hands on the handles to enter. But stopped, she could hear voices inside. Her mother, brother, grandfather, Inuyasha, son, and Sesshomaru were inside. They were speaking about Naraku. Her mother had the worried thread in her voice. She hated hearing that in her mother's voice.
Carefully she opened the doors and went in. Everyone stopped and looked at her as she closed the doors and then crossed the room to her comfy corner chair. She may have been a goddess but even she hadn't foreseen Naraku ever coming back into existence. It still had her mind reeling.
"Kagome?" her mother's voice broke through to her.
"Everything is going to Hell in a hand basket." Kagome said, "All I wanted was a safe haven for the souls that were waiting for their chance to reincarnate and for those that needed a second chance for their lives."
"Kagome everyone knows that you want peace." Inuyasha said.
Her eyes snapped to him and she jumped up from her chair. Flames danced around in her eyes. She was pissed off.
"They do, do they?" She snapped, "Really? That's not how I'm seeing it!"
All the glass in the library shattered. Everything from the windows to the small figurines and to the fireplace covers. The furniture even splintered and the floor cracked.
"Kagome!" Her mother snapped.
Everything stopped but they could feel that her temper still raged. She was very unhappy. She was confused and was hurt. The council turned on her and wanted to use her for their own greedy gain. They had brought back Naraku and who knew just what else they were going to do.
"Mother, they brought back Naraku. They will do anything to have the power. To bend me to their will." She said, "They will even destroy everything here and anyone to get all the power that they can possibly have."
"And throwing a temper tantrum will help matters?" Her mother asked.
Inuyasha sucked in a startled breath. He had never heard Mrs. Higurashi even speak like that to anyone but him. She had never raised her voice or scolded anyone like that.
"I am not throwing a temper tantrum!" She snapped, "Throwing a tantrum will be me razing this place to the ground and making sure that no one can ever get the power. I could reverse time and keep people from being born. I could inflict such horrors and pain on people that would leave them shells. My little display was not a tantrum but a flare of anger."
Mrs. Higurashi just didn't know what to say. Her little girl had never spoken to her like that. It wasn't that it was disrespectful but that it was just plain devastating truth. Her little girl wasn't that anymore. She was a grown woman; a woman with power to destroy or make the world and its people.
"I am sorry for speaking to you that way mother. It was very disrespectful." Kagome apologized.
She had nothing to say in return. There was nothing that she could say. Kagome was right. Mrs. Higurashi held up her hand before Kagome could say anything more.
"Kagome, you are my daughter and I your mother. But right now you are more than that. You are a kami, a divine being. You can make or break the world and its people. And I am just your mother." She said.
"Mother, yes you are. My mother, the woman who gave me life and without you I would not be here. I would not be what I am. I would not have grown up to be the kind of person that I am for the Buddha to bestow the title of kami to me. I am nothing if not for you. You may think that Buddha gifted me to you but I am sure that it was the other way around. He gifted you to me." Kagome explained.
Mrs. Higurashi wiped at her eyes. She hadn't thought about it that way at all. In a sense it was all because of her that her daughter was everything that she was. So in all honesty it was truly as Kagome had said that she was gifted to her daughter and not the other way around.
"I am sorry, Kagome." She said simply, "I should have thought about what you are now. I am so used to my little girl being a normal young person with normal everyday problems. I should have realized that everything has ultimately changed for you. I should have realized that when you first went down the well. Maybe I should have when your father said that you would have a special life when you were born."
"Father?" Kagome asked confused then sheer horror crossed her face.
"Kagome?" Inuyasha questioned, "What is it?"
"Dad! I'll be back!" She answered and disappeared from the room.
