Tree
Len Kagamine glanced at his watch for the fifth time that night, tapping his foot impatiently on the sidewalk. At age 21, he had shoulder-length, golden blonde hair pulled into a small ponytail, and messy, splayed bangs, along with cerulean eyes. He wore a light blue jacket and black pants, seeing as it was a bit warm regardless of the season. He stood in the middle of Vocaloid Park, where a large, magnificent Christmas tree stood, decorated beautifully with thousands of ornaments and lights, a brilliant golden star on the very top. Due to the time, the park was almost deserted.
Fingering the small object in his pocket, Len once again checked his watch. He bit his lip, worried that she wouldn't come. After all, it was pretty late, but she said she would come...
"Len!" The blonde spun around, a smile overtaking his face when he saw her.
"Rin!" Her short blonde hair that matched his so much waved around her face, even with the white clips holding her bangs out of her azure eyes. She wore a pink dress, a blue jacket, a brown scarf, and her signature huge white bow on top of her head. She was panting when she reached him, but still smiling.
"I thought you wouldn't be able to make it..." Len said, wrapping her in a warm hug. Rin giggled and returned the embrace.
"I said I would, didn't I?" She pulled back to grin at him. "So what was so important that you needed me now?"
Blood rushed to his cheeks and he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Ah... well..." He glanced at the tree beside them. "...Um... I think it looks better at night, don't you?" Len gestured to the tree, hoping she wouldn't notice his trembling hand.
"Hmm..." Rin cupped her chin with one hand. "Yeah, I guess it does...?"
"And it's so peaceful now, too," he continued nervously. "You know, more quiet and not so many people..."
Rin deadpanned. "That's because it's almost midnight, Len!"
"Heh... right..." Tentatively he took her hand, squeezing gently, more to calm his nerves than anything else. She returned the gesture, smiling up at him.
"So... is there a reason we're here, Len?"
Len looked at his watch, grinned, then turned to her, swallowing his fear. "Absolutely."
"And...?"
Suddenly he knelt in front of her, holding a small black box to her. He smirked and quietly sang, "Happiness seems to come inside this tiny box..." Slowly lifting the lid, he revealed a golden ring with a sparkling white diamond.
Rin gasped, staring in disbelief at him. Len took a deep breath, now completely serious.
"Rin... I really... really... love you. Please... will you marry me?" He looked up at her, eyes pleading, fearing rejection yet full of hope.
"Len..." She smiled, tears starting to fall as she nodded. "Yes!" Rin hugged him tightly, letting their lips connect in a soft yet passionate kiss. They remained there for a while before releasing, breathing heavily. Len then took Rin's hand and slid the ring on her finger. In the sky, fireworks ignited, and in the distance, a bell sounded. Neither took notice, too lost in each other's eyes.
"I love you, Rin," Len whispered. "...And Merry Christmas."
