So it's not exactly Christmas anymore, but technically I wrote the majority of this before Christmas, so I'm posting it anyway. Enjoy!
Cody stood on Noah's porch in the freezing January air, holding two hot chocolates (one already half-empty) and waiting for him to get his lazy ass outside. He had only met Noah a month ago, but he already had to pay his debts to him…
Noah couldn't believe he was letting Izzy drag him to another party. All of those times he had warned her not to ask again, all of those times he promised himself he wouldn't get persuaded by her again, and yet here he was, riding shotgun in her sketchy Volkswagen van and listening to her ramble on.
"And then there was this fish, and he like, swallowed one of my toes! Whole! Isn't that crazy?! Oh look, we're here!"
Noah sighed and reluctantly, very reluctantly, unbuckled his seatbelt. Izzy scolded him for his "slothyness" and practically yanked his arm off getting him out of the car.
"Why do you even make me do this?" he yelled.
"Trust me, you'll like this one." Izzy laughed deviously.
"No, Izzy! I'm not in the mood! Just give me your car keys, I'll go home, and I'll pick you up later, okay?"
"You'll have to catch me first!" Izzy bolted for the front door of whoever's house this was, and by the time Noah caught up, she was lost amid a crowd of teenagers in ugly Christmas sweaters. Twenty minutes of searching later, he finally spotted the red head.
"Izzy, hand over your keys."
"What do you mean? I don't have them!" she replied.
"Izzy, I don't want to play this game with you. I'm not sticking my hand down your shirt again."
She giggled. "I gave them to someone else!" She skipped away, leaving Noah dumbfounded.
Leshawna, having overheard this unfortunate conversation, tapped Noah on the shoulder. "She tried to give them to me. I think she finally passed them off to Mr. von Trapp over there," she informed, pointing. Noah nodded his thanks and made his way over to a boy dressed in full lederhosen.
"Show up to the wrong party?" Noah mused.
"I lost a bet," he said dejectedly. "You're Noah, right?" Noah looked at him incredulously, and he blushed. "You're on the student council, that's how I know."
"Oh, right."
"I'm Cody." The boy smiled, revealing poor orthodontic work.
"That's great, kid. Listen, did my friend give you a set of keys?"
"Give me? More like shove them down the back of these dumb lederhosen."
"Well, can you get them? I need to leave."
"Oh, um, I can't really reach them."
Noah sighed in annoyance. "Go to the bathroom and get them."
Cody blushed again. "The clasps to take these off are on the back and I can't reach those either." He laughed nervously.
Noah groaned. "Fine, turn around."
"What?! I'm not taking them off right here!" Quieter he said, "I have a stalker."
Noah gave him one of his 'I don't have time for your bullshit' looks.
"What? If you don't believe me, I guess you're not getting your precious keys back."
Noah considered this for a second, then forcefully grabbed his arm and pulled him through the closest door, leading to a coat closet.
"Jesus, it's dark in here. How are you going to undo the clasps without light?" Cody remarked.
"The less I have to see, the easier I can forget this experience," Noah retorted. He could feel the square straps on Cody's back, now all he had to do was gently…
"What was that?" Cody asked. "Did you just rip them?"
"I don't think so."
"I definitely heard you rip them. Here," Cody handed Noah his phone as a flashlight.
After inspecting the damage for a moment, Noah spoke. "Yeah, I don't think you can wear these again."
Cody felt the tears for himself. "Are you kidding me?" As if on command, the broken lederhosen dropped to the floor, revealing Cody in just an undershirt and his boxers. "What am I supposed to do? I can't go out there like this, I don't have any other clothes! My friends aren't going to take me home, they're going to take pictures of me and humiliate me all over again!"
Noah watched Cody's pale skin turn ten shades of red from embarrassment. "Look, as much as I'd love to ditch you in here and watch you fend for yourself, I can take you home now." He wiggled Izzy's keys.
"Well, duh, that's the least you could do, but how am I going to get from here to outside?"
Once they drove far enough away from the party, Cody took Noah's sweater off his legs. "Thanks for the makeshift pants," he uttered.
Noah rolled his eyes.
"Why did you even come to the party, if you wanted to leave so badly?" Cody asked.
"I realized my friends aren't really… my friends. More like torturers, hell-bent on making on my life as miserable as possible."
Cody laughed once. "Did you not see what my 'friends' made me wear?"
Noah chuckled. "Yeah, that's pretty bad."
"You really did me a solid back there. Who knows what else could have been shoved down the back of my hosen?"
"So," Noah said, raising an eyebrow. "If my knowledge of the rules is correct, now you owe me a solid?"
"I guess I do."
"So I'll be sure to see you again later for you to repay the favor?" Noah slyly asked.
Cody laughed. "That's how it works." After exchanging phone numbers, Noah watched Cody run from Izzy's van to his front door, awkwardly trying to cover his butt. Noah smirked and rolled his eyes, yet again.
Noah finally answered the door. "Nice to see you actually wearing pants for a change."
Cody blushed. "I'm never going to live that down, am I?"
"Not in your lifetime."
That was shorter than I expected it to be, but that's why they call them drabbles, right? Thanks for reading!
