FINALLY! College has kept me busy, but that's not really the reason this has taken so long. I had so many things I wanted to include in this epilogue, I realized that it really didn't suit an epilogue. Or one-shots. So...I'm doing a sequel. It'll be a little bit different. Instead of just following them through a few months it'll follow them through their engagement and beyond. Possibly a few years into the future. So you won't see every day of their lives. It'll skip a few weeks or months, but it'll tell you the story all the same. As I was writing this the ideas in my head just kept growing and I wanted to keep telling their story.
So I hope you aren't disappointed with how short this epilogue is. It's because the real stuff is going in the sequel. If I had planned a sequel before, I wouldn't have promised an epilogue! My big problem is I have NO IDEA what to title the sequel. So any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thanks to everyone who has reviewed, followed, and/or favorited this story. It's been wonderful to write. And I can't believe it's finished. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
EPILOGUE
Angel hurried into the nursery, scooping up the baby before the cries woke his tired wife. He held his daughter to his chest, trying to soothe her.
"It's okay Princess," he whispered as he walked down the hall towards the kitchen. "Daddy will get you a bottle. Let's just try to let Mommy sleep, okay?" he said tickling her tiny tummy and grinning when she squirmed in his arms. "You're so pretty just like your mommy," he cooed. "I can't wait until you grow up to be just like her," he said as he got out a bottle to heat up. "Because she's pretty cool."
"She is, huh?" he heard and he spun around to find a sleepy and disheveled Buffy leaning against the doorframe.
"Yeah. She is," Angel smiled as she walked over and rested her head against his bicep. "Beautiful. Smart. Caring," he listed and Buffy gently rubbed her daughter's head that was just barely covered in light blond hair. "Amazing mother."
"Now you're reaching," she mused but Angel shook his head.
"No I'm not," he said. "Look at her," he said gesturing down to the baby in his arms. "We made that. She's here because of us," he pointed out and Buffy let out a long sigh.
"She's here because of you. I couldn't have done it without you," she said wrapping her arms around Angel's waist.
"You don't have to," he replied leaning down to kiss her quickly. "You can go back to bed. I know you're exhausted," he offered but she shook her head.
"I like watching you with her," she smiled as Angel grabbed the bottle from the microwave, testing the temperature before feeding their daughter.
"I know she's only a month old, but she's so tiny," Angel breathed in awe as he stared at the little bundle in his arms.
"She sure didn't feel tiny a month ago," Buffy mused and Angel chuckled wondering if he'd ever been this happy. He knew he'd never been this tired. His little girl didn't like to sleep much. But that was fine with him because he loved to hold her.
"You are both so incredible," he whispered and Buffy leaned up on her tip toes to kiss him. He let out a sigh of contentment as Buffy's hands ran through his hair. She kissed him slowly, her tongue massaging his and he groaned quietly.
"Angel," she murmured, but when Angel pulled away and opened his eyes he wasn't standing in a kitchen and he wasn't holding his daughter. "Angel," Buffy whispered leaning down to kiss him again and he relaxed. His arms wrapped around her waist. "What were you dreaming about? With a smile that big I sure hope it was me," she teased and Angel smiled as he ran his fingers through her tangled bed hair.
"It was," he answered truthfully. "We were married. And we had a baby. A little girl," he grinned. "She was so perfect."
"We just got engaged a week ago and you're already planning babies?" she teased but he could see how happy that thought made her.
"Not planning. Just dreaming," he whispered. "I know we haven't talked much about our future, but-"
"But what?" she asked trying to hide the nerves in her voice. Was this when the other shoe was going to drop?
"Sometimes I get ahead of myself. Thinking and dreaming about it," he admitted and Buffy let out a small sigh of relief."
"Do you ever wonder what would have happened if we met and dated the normal way?" Buffy asked as she cuddled into Angel's chest on the big bed.
"I know what would have happened," he murmured softly as he pulled her closer to him.
"What?" she asked curiously and he smiled at her.
"The first time I saw you I knew. That day after we met I couldn't get you out of my head," he told her. "I wouldn't have made it more than a day without seeing you. I would have found you. And asked you out," he said simply even though he could remember how he yearned to kiss her after that first night. "Would you have said yes?" he wondered and she grinned.
"Yes," she said pressing her lips to his briefly. "If I didn't ask you first."
"No. The guy's supposed to ask first," he insisted despite the fact that aside from Buffy, he himself rarely bothered to ask first. "No. We would have gone on that date I described with the swings. It would have been perfect."
"I would have fallen for you so hard on that date," Buffy said wistfully. "And if you would have worn one of those black silk shirts…" she trailed off and he smirked. "I already told you I would have kissed you on that date. I probably would have done a whole lot more than that."
"No," he shook his head and she frowned in confusion. "I wouldn't have slept with you on the first date."
"Why not?" she asked and he chuckled at how annoyed she sounded.
"Because what we had was real. And I wouldn't have risked that by letting you think all I wanted was sex," he explained as he smoothed her hair back from her face.
"So when would you have slept with me?" she wondered and he sighed.
"I'd have planned to wait until the fifth date," he answered honestly. "But…I don't think I'd have made it that long," he admitted and Buffy grinned.
"I would hope not. Because by that point I SO would have been torturing you," she teased and he chuckled not doubting that for a second.
They were both silent for a moment and Buffy rested her head on Angel's chest. As she listened to his heart beat she realized how content and peaceful he made her feel. There was not a doubt anywhere in her mind that she wanted to build her life with this man.
"Angel?"
"Hmm?" he replied softly and Buffy could tell he was on the verge of falling asleep.
"August," she whispered. He opened his eyes and looked down at her in confusion.
"What about August?" he asked and she smiled.
"I want to get married in August. This August," she told him and when his face burst into a wide grin Buffy couldn't help but do the same.
