She was expecting him to scoop her up and run to Bonnie as soon as he realized the truth, but obviously she seemed to have forgotten that this was Klaus that she was talking about- she didn't know what to expect with him.
So when she wrote I am Caroline on the sand, she didn't expect him to react like this.
He stepped (sorta stumbled) back a few steps and stared at her all wide eyed. She could see his throat move up and down as he swallowed. He blinked a couple of times and shook his head -as if to make sure his mind wasn't playing tricks on him- and opened his mouth to say something. But he didn't say anything, she didn't think he could.
...Maybe she broke his brain.
Okay, so maybe she should have expected a reaction like that. It isn't everyday where your new pet puppy claims to be a missing vampire.
"Y-you.." He tried, his voice sounding strangled. He was clenching and unclenching his fists as if he wasn't sure what to do with them. "...Caroline?" He finally said. His voice came out so small, so disbelieving, she felt bad for him. She could only imagine what he was thinking about this whole situation. She was missing for a little more than a month and he had searched everywhere for her -EVERYWHERE- and it turns out she was sitting right besides him? A dog? It was laughable.
Funny how writing on sand never occurred to her. There was plenty of sand back in the woods. If she hadn't been so excited and intent on leading Kol to the underground tunnel, she might have realized how to reveal her identity a lot faster. Kol would have found out before Klaus, and for some reason, she didn't think he would have been as surprised as in front of her now. He'd been suspicious about her for quite sometime.
She was afraid to respond to Klaus in fear of damaging his brain further, but risked a nod anyway, making it clear that she was responding to him.
Then it just became awkward.
He didn't do anything except stare at her for a full. two. minutes. She was thankful for not being able to blush in this form, because if she could have, she would have turned all shades of red.
Not knowing what to do she stared at the ground, awkwardly pawing at the words she had written down in the sand. In all of Caroline's life, she had never imagined being in a situation as bizarre as this. It's almost as if she were in some sort of fiction story that some crazed being thought was a good idea to write.
After a long purse, Klaus' trembling hands brought her back to the situation at hand - back to awkwardness. To her surprise, he choked out a small, disbelieving chuckle. "Please tell me your joking." He said with what she thought was supposed to be an attempt at an amused smile. She shook her head - no.
Poor guy, she could see that he was really struggling to take this in. After all, a dog wrote to him in English... you couldn't blame him. "You- you mean... All this time..." He cringed when she nodded again. His fingers were repeatedly combing through his hair in frustration... Or was that embarrassment? "You can't be serious.." He said. She didn't know what else to do other than nod. But nodding didn't seem to be convincing him. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He took several deep breaths actually, and Caroline just stood there staring at him, watching him register all of this.
Then all of a sudden it was like a dam broke somewhere inside of him. He opened his eyes and locked them with hers. "You were right next to me all along." He said, kneeling down in front of her. "Is it really you Caroline..?" He asked me a third time , just to be sure she assumed. When she nodded once again a careful smile slowly formed on his face.. "This is unbelievable..." he said, running his fingers through his hair. "This is... This... -Shit, this is bloody embarrassing." Ah so it was embarrassment.
"Caroline.." He said softly, his voice trailing off. She looked up at his face and was surprised to find that his eyes were quickly dampening. But he was still smiling and she could tell that a huge load had been lifted off of his shoulders. He suddenly scooped her up into his arms and kissed her on the top of her head. "Why didn't you try to tell me earlier?"
...
'Excuse me? Why didn't I try to- WHY DIDN'T I TRY TO TELL YOU EARLIER?' A growl erupted from the back of her throat. Klaus looked at her worriedly, "What is it?" He asked. She huffed and turned turned her head away. Oh if only he knew how much she tried. She had tried spelling it out to him so many times over the past month she had lost fact that she wasn't afraid of vampires, couldn't swim and could understand every word he said, should have been sign enough. But it turns out, Klaus wasn't very bright when it came to hints. Very strange, blaringly obvious hints. Of course she didn't expect him to suddenly realize that she was Caroline, but he didn't even assume something strange was happening, which was unusual considering how paranoid he usually is. It seemed Kol was a lot quicker when it came these things.
She was finally relieved. After all the shit she'd been through, he finally knew the truth and now she can finally stop being paranoid about being a dog for the rest of her life. Klaus could fix this. She knew he could.
She struggled in his grip, urging him to put her down. She wrote on the sand again; Help me
Klaus frowned, his moment of relief and surprise fading into a need to find answers. "Who did this to you? How come you're a... puppy?" He asked.
Bonnie She wrote.
"Bonnie?" He asked, surprised. "Why would Bonnie do this to you?"
She shook her head in response. She had no idea why all of this happened. Bonnie looked and spoke as though she were possessed. She kept on referring to Caroline as "Vampire" and at one point she could see her struggling to control herself. She thought about it, and wrote down; dark magic.
She carefully watched Klaus as his eyes went from looking confused to a look of understanding. "Of course... Dark magic. The Witch mentioned it at the ritual and when she saw you she..." He trailed off and she could almost see his mind working, liking he was piecing a puzzle together, and the pieces finally fit. After a few moments of staring at her he said, "You really are Caroline."
It was amusing how he still couldn't believe it even after this little conversation they were having. Take me to her. She wrote. Please fix this.
Any doubt that he had in his mind seemed to have vanished at that moment. He nodded and scooped her up once again, "Hang on, Sweetheart."

He was headed straight to the boarding house where he knew Bonnie was being taken care of, when he ran into his brother.
"Out on a date?" Kol said, grinning. "Headed to the altar? Took my advice on getting married?"
While Klaus would normally have just ignored his brother and his antics, he couldn't really find the need in him to do so. He didn't even want to get angry at him because he was just too damn happy.
He found her. He finally found Caroline. He couldn't believe the sense of relief that had washed over him, when he finally came to terms with the fact that - yes, this puppy, was indeed Caroline Forbes. Technically, he didn't find her. Rather, it was the other way around, but that didn't matter. She was here. She had been here with him the whole time, and that meant that she had been safe and that he had absolutely nothing to worry about. Other than the fact that she was still a puppy.
It was embarrassing really, how he never figured it out. The signs were all there and yet he just turned a blind eye. He was so occupied with finding Caroline, when she was right next to him all along. It really was embarrassing.
He looked at Kol. His brother had been curious about the puppy from day one. If Klaus hadn't found out about Caroline, then he was sure that Kol would have. And maybe for the first time in a very, very long time, Klaus felt a sense of appreciation for his brother. He might be a pain in the arse, but he was observant. Maybe he should listen to Kol a bit more often. He probably should tell him the news.
"Am I hearing wedding bells, Nik?" Kol asked him.
"I found Caroline." Klaus said.
Kol's eyebrows shot up as he took in what he said. Then he gave Klaus a disappointed look and indicated to Caroline still in his arms. "So now your going to dump her?" He said. Klaus laughed for the third time that day and shook his head.
"Actually," He said. "This puppy, is Caroline." There. He said it. And he sounded like a lunatic too. Kol was silent for a good ten seconds before he finally said, "I knew it."
Klaus looked confused. "You did?" Then he got a little angry. "And you didn't tell me?"
Kol just shrugged and said, "Well I wasn't really sure. It was more of a hypothesis really. The idea came to me when you called her 'Caroline.' when we in that underground tunnel the other day."
Yes, it was certain; if Klaus hadn't found her first, it would have definitely been Kol.
"So what now? You must be really getting off on this. Just imagine; your mate is also your little vampire crush."
Klaus cringed, he could have lived the rest of his immortal life without having to hear that. "First, we're going to meet Bonnie." He said, ignoring his disturbing statement. "Apparently, it was Bonnie who had turned her into a puppy." He explained.
When it came to witchcraft, Kol was hardly ever surprised. So it was no surprise to Klaus when he completely disregarded the matter at hand and said, "So I suppose I won't ever be allowed to carry her again, will I?" He grinned. "Come on then, let's meet the Bennett."

Damon had had enough of the Mikaelson family barging into the boarding house everyday. Ever since Bonnie was found they - Klaus and his slimy brother - had visited every single day for the past week. And maybe he wouldn't have minded so much if they would just knock on the damn door and wait for someone (Stefan or Elena) to invite them in.
But no.
In true Vampire fashion, they would just barge in and appear unannounced in the middle of the room while he would be having an intimate moment/heated argument with Elena. Which is why it came as no surprise to Damon, Elena - who had both decided to be on their best behavior - or Stefan when the afore mentioned Mikaelsons, once again, barged in. And today they had decided to bring their puppy along for the intrusion. Great.
Before either of the brothers asked, Damon greeted them with, "No, she isn't awake, leave now and come back tomorrow."
Kol, being the slime he is, took a seat down next to Stefan. "Why thank you for offering me a seat, I do feel rather tired." He said, reclining back on the arm chair. If it weren't for Stefan interrupting him, Damon would have offered him something painful instead.
"Any luck finding Caroline?" The younger Salvatore said. It had been annoying, but Damon had had to finally come to terms with the fact that Klaus was actually concerned about the Blonde's disappearance. He couldn't for the life of him figure out why, but it was the truth. A rather suspicious truth.
Expecting the usual response to that question, Damon instead focused on the puppy in Klaus's arms. He had encountered this very same puppy three times already, and every time he was surprised that it wasn't already dead. It seemed to have some sort of attraction to dangerous Vampire households. First he found it on his doorstep (Elena's doorstep now, but that didn't matter.), then in Klaus's house and just last week walking around with Kol. When one blonde disappears, another one will appear. Even if it wasn't human.
"Actually." Klaus said taking in a deep breath, bringing Damon's attention back to the matter at hand. "I found her."

*peeks out from hiding place.* Hey guys! How's the holidays? -oh crap! *Ducks into hiding place narrowly missing a shower of pitch forks.*
I am so sorry guys T.T I really really am! I actually do have reasons for not updating in months, and if I were to list them out, this authors note would get pretty lony. But excuses aside, I am really sorry for not updating. and I know that you guys will complain about the length of the chapter, especially since I've been missing for so long, but that's just how long my attention span lasts, and this is where I decided to end the chapter. The next chapter will be the very last chapter of PMW and then you won't have to put up with me and my slow uploads.
A huge thanks to all those who have sent me PM's reviews asking me
to get up off my arse and update. I probably would have forgotten all about this if it weren't for you. So I hope you all enjoyed this update, and you can feel free to send me flames, I really don't mind and will reply to all those whom I've upset. :-) hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and a very happy New year!
