Violin music and light filled the twinkling sky two hours away from Republic City. It came from a small white cruise , enough to fit about 30 people, which was owned by Hiroshi Sato. Mako looked around the deck, with people dressed formally, chatting or dancing, having a good time. It was small party, but Mako liked it. As long as there were no government officials around, it would be a great party.

Drink in hand, he walked around the boat, greeting and thanking the people for attending his party. They are all trustworthy, and all against the governments inhumane acts on the mermaids. They range from marine biologists, ecologists, to publishers and accountants. All secretly working under him.

"Hey, Mako!"

Mako turned his head to the direction to see his brother in his suite, and a daughter and father of the cruiser- Asami and Hiroshi Sato, approaching him. Mako excused himself from the people he was talking to, and joined his brother and the family.

"There's the birthday boy," Asami greeted him with a peck on the cheek before looping her arms around his.

"You look beautiful, honey," he commented as he admired her red dress.

"Happy Birthday, son!" boomed Asami's father shaking his hand. "Another year, another achievement, eh?

Mako laughed sheepishly, "I can't take all the credit, sir. And thank you for lending us one of your boats for this occasion. You didn't have to- ,"

"The pleasure is all mine. It's your birthday, and you've been doing great things saving the world at such a young age."

"I can't take all the credit , sir. It's all thanks to the sponsors, support, research and a little wish from the past,"

"That's right. Mako may be cold and fierce on the outside, but warm and cuddly on the inside," his younger brother interjected, hugging himself to prove a point.

Hiroshi tuned his gaze back to Mako "Speaking of sponsors," he said "Did that big donor ever show up today? The one who helped you save the little girl?"

"No, he told me he had other business to attend to. But he had sent me his greetings,"

"Hmm…isn't it odd that you haven't met him but he constantly funds this organization?"

"I met him only once, and he's a nice guy," the birthday man defended, "I guess you could say he doesn't want his reputation to be known, "

Asami looked at him, "The less you know someone, the less trouble," she quipped.

Mako put a hand on hers, and smiled. "I guess you could say that," he turned to Hiroshi, "Would you excuse us sir, but I believe I owe your daughter a dance,"

The moon was full tonight, casting shadows into the sea of those boats on the water. They avoided small boats, anything that resembles a fishing boat or trap, and clusters of them. Jinora assumed the party would be on a bigger boat. After much searching, they found a big shadow, resembling the big belly of the boat very far from the coast.

"There it is," Jinora said, pointing at the huge transport. The music got louder as they swam nearer. Lifting their heads, they broke out of the water and were greeted with colorful lights and unique, foreign music.

"Wow, look at those lights!," Jinora exclaimed in amazement "And the music sounds so beautiful !"

Korra smiles, following her gaze, "Looks great up there,"

"We need to get closer. I don't see any low windows or ledges we could climb on," said Jinora scanning the boat. "Lets check behind"

They swam to the stern, where they were low stairs for them to sit on and leave their tail dangling in the sea. The wall was high enough to cover their faces, and allow girls' eyes to see over the deck, and not be too suspicious or obvious to the humans that the mythical creatures were watching them.

The girls gazed in awe at the dancing on the floor, observing the choreography of their leg movements. The music wasn't too fast or too slow, and a man and woman were dancing hand in hand. The men were twirled the lady partners. The girls found the music beat to their liking, and 'tapped' their tails to the beat against the ship.

Jinora sighed. "Everything looks so beautiful. Wish I could dance too,"

"Well, you could, you know? You can transform -"

"And make the humans suspicious that I had suddenly appeared in the middle of the sea? Plus, who would dance with me? I don't know how to dance, and the men look so much older than me. I don't want to go alone,"

"Okay, tiger, calm down. You don't need to get so worked up. But the dancing looks fun. I wish I could transform for this," Korra laughed at her friends' flustered face. "You're talking as fast as Ikki,"

"I rather go with you than go up there alone," Jinora explains. "And I don't want to make the same mistake and get captured again," sHE spots some musicians in a corner "Korra, look!" she nudges her friend and points, "That's where the music is coming from. I remember seeing pictures from the books we have," Their interests on dancing had died as they made a new discovery.

"Hey , I think I have that one," said Korra looking at one of the man playing a familiar instrument, "Isn't that the violin? It sounds much better and louder up here,"

"That's a flute, a guitar, trumpet, " Jinora starts naming off each instrument. "is that a bass? Korra, we need to try those one day. Our instruments are all made out of shells- okay, there are some slight improvosions between theirs and ours,"

"Hopefully they would drop those in the water someday,"

They talked in whispers, comparing to objects they had read about, commenting on the clothing the humans wore, mostly the women, the mouth watering delicacies being served out (and became sick when they heard some contained fish), the colorful wine in glasses-

"Oh, there's Bolin," exclaimed the younger girl, pointing at a man. Korra followed her gaze. He was dressed in a green tux, leaning against the railing, and laughing with some humans.

"Hmm, he looks nice," she commented. "and friendly," But her mind was somewhere else.

"You're not even looking, lover girl," Jinora teases, "But if Bolin is here, Mako would be nearby,"

A loud bark broke their thoughts. A white dog came into the clearing. The dog bounded towards each of the two-legs, wagging it's tail and licking their hands when petted. An orange Fire Ferret followed behind. The white dog seemed like it wanted to greet everyone, and got closer and closer to girls. Suddenly, it raised it's head and sniffed the air. It turned it's head towards Korra's direction. When their eyes connected, it bounded to her with it's tail wagging furiously.

"There she is," the tanned mermaid greeted and laughed when the dog attacked her face with licks "Hello Naga. It's been a long time. " Korra wrapped her arms abroud the big dogs' neck. "How have you been girl? Staying out or getting into trouble?"

Jinora's eyes widened in surprise, "You know her?"

"It's a long story. I found her as a pup. " Korra chuckled , stroking Naga's head. The dog made noises between barks and whines. After the animal had calmed down, they both touched foreheads. "I missed you girl. Where's your master?"

As if on cue, they heard a man yell out , "Naga!"

Upon hearing the call, Naga turned away from Korra and ran to her master, who was standing ten feet away from them. Naga began jumping on him.

"Hey girl. Whoa, easy, Naga, easy! Down, girl, " the man laughed, trying to push Naga down. No one has ever matched the huge dogs' strength. The man and fell backwards, and was attacked with furious licks. He laughed.

Korra's eyes widened and let out a breath.

He was no longer that short and scrawny kid she had remembered. He looked taller and his face was a little longer, jaw more sharper. He was wearing a smart black tux and a white shirt under the black coat. The familiar red fabric he had wrapped around her neck was neatly tied and tucked into the coat, like a tie. His hair was combed back and his eyes were as beautiful as she could remember. And his eyebrows…

Korra laughed. They are still the same. "It's still the same shape," she giggled into her had. He must've been working on them.

"I wonder who's that lady friend with him?" Jinora questioned, looking at the black hair lady in a red dress next to Mako, laughing as she tried to push Naga off him.

"Must be a good friend of his," Korra smiled. "And she looks very pretty."

"What if she's his girlfriend?"

"Who would want to date Mr. Weird Eyebrows?"

Her friend raised her eyebrow, but said nothing.

Naga pulled at her owners' coat, tugging him towards the stern.

"Alright, girl. Easy," Mako mused, "What do you want to show me?" He followed his dog, walking closer and closer towards Korra and Jinora!

The girls gasped, and ducked their heads under the plastic wall, pressing their backs against the boat, praying that they won't be seen. Thankfully, Mako didn't look down. Instead, he looked ahead.

Mako sipped his champagne as he gazed at the full moon, and stars glittering in the black sky. He petted Naga's head with his free head. The dog whined.

"I know girl. It's beautiful, isn't it?" He didn't hear Naga groan.

"Makoooo!" Someone yelled behind him and slapped him on the back. "What's up big bro?"

"Trying to get some peace and quiet from the crowd," he answered, sounding annoyed.

"Riiight,"

The brothers fell silent as they gazed into the darkness, listening to the music and the waves.

"So!" said Bolin, breaking the moments of silence, "Thinking of her?"

"She changed our lives, Bo. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for her,"

"Because you saved her. And it was way more than Shady Shin could pay you,"

"And because mom's stories were true," Mako stressed. "You had held onto that belief when I didn't when we were kids,"

The younger man fell silent at the mention of their mother. After a while, he gazed up at the stars and said, "Mom would be proud of you,"

"Of us," the older sibling said, lightly punching his shoulder. " We're doing the right thing,"

"You're thinking if Jinora ever got back to Korra?" Bolin asked teasingly.

"Who knows," Mako shrugged. "But I hope she does. I wonder if she's doing alright,"

"With royalty duties ? I bet she has a lot on her plate to keep her busy and safe,"

"Well, as long as she's out there….somewhere , and as long as she's not showing up on shore or in the newspapers from the Earth Kingdom, I can put my mind at ease,"

"Wait, what? Bro, Don't you ever wish to see her again?"

Mako looked at his glass. He secretly thinks of her everyday; what she's up to and how much she's grown. Gosh, it's hard to imagine her grown up. Whenever he tries to think about it, the only thing that comes to mind is the young girls' face and her bright blue eyes.

"It's better if we didn't meet," he said slowly. "It might be risky for her. With the ridiculous amount of bounty-"

Bolin slapped his face. Sometimes, he just wants to punch his older brother. "Stop talking about the facts. Look, I know you care for her well being and all, but it's beyond the point. What if you could sail solo around the world, would you want to find her?"

"Of course I would," Mako said "But the sea is wide and vast. The world is covered mostly in water. It's like finding a needle in a haystack,"

Little did the brothers know that the mermaid Mako was talking about was directly underneath them, listening to their every word. The mermaid who Mako was talking about was looking up at him, blushing, and smiling as she took in his words into her heart.
