Decisions
"I want you to become a soul reaper," Suzunami stated,
"A soul reaper, like you three?" Zack questioned.
"Yes," Suzunami answered. The field went silent. Only the wind could be heard. Zack was thinking about the offer before him.
"Sure why not? I don't have anything else to do," Zack replied with his trademark grin with one hand behind his head.
"Excellent, now we have to get you into the academy," Suzunami replied grinning back.
"Academy? You mean I have to go to school?" Zack whined childishly.
"We all had too," Matsuri stated.
"It's a real buzz kill," Fujimaru yawned stretching his arms above his head before receiving a sharp elbow in his ribs from his sister.
"Isn't there some sort of test I could take to bypass the academy?" Zack asked with hope flooding his words. He wasn't very good at sitting still but he was confident with his swordsmanship.
"Actually there might be. I will let you know if there is an alternative along those lines when I have confirmed the answer," Suzunami pondered. Instantly Zack's features brightened up.
"Well you know where to find me," Zack smiled again as he sheathed the katana he had been using and motioned for Suzunami to take it back.
"You keep that, it may come in handy soon," Suzunami replied motioning back for Zack to keep the sword.
"Thanks," Zack replied as he positions the blade across his back. Almost as soon as the weight of the sword touched his back he released a sigh.
"What's the matter?" Suzunami asked as he noticed the change in Zack's expression.
"It's just carrying a sword like this again brings back the memories of having my old mentor and friend's sword across my back. It was a lot heavier but filled with so many good memories," Zack answered while staring at the ground.
"But didn't that friend also leave you that scar across your cheek?" Matsuri asked innocently enough.
"That is true but it was not his fault. He was a science experiment back in Shinra and wanted to prove to me that he was a monster," Zack replied almost depressed at the thought of Angeal's last moments.
"I'm sorry," Matsuri apologized, saddened by Zack's current state.
"Don't worry about it, I promised him I'd protect my honour and my dreams and maybe this will be my second chance," Zack beamed at the twin.
"You don't stay sad long do you?" Suzunami laughed at the sudden switch in Zack's mood.
"Sadness just wastes the time you have to enjoy life, or I guess now the after life," Zack smiled at the captain. As their conversation came to an end the three soul reapers returned to the Serietei.
"Captain?" Matsuri asked as she followed her captain back towards the Squad Five barracks.
"Yes Matsuri?" Suzunami replied turning his head in her direction.
"Is there really a way to bypass the academy?" Matsuri questioned.
"Normally no, but seeing his skills already I am going to discuss it with the Head Captain," Suzunami answered as he altered his course towards the barracks of Squad One.
