Robins POV
"Zee?" I asked in well kept surprise.
There she was in her nightgown standing at the balcony. Her long hair flowed around her, framing her face and draping on her shoulders. Her blue eyes looked cold and distant, her skin a rosy blush due to the chilled night wind.
She turned her head at the call of her name, a surprised look on her face.
"Robin?" she turned her body towards me, one hand supported on the railing. She smiled a little "What are you doing here?"
I smiled too, walking a few steps towards her. "Just enjoying the night breeze" I mused. "You?"
She smiled a bit wider, her eyes looking down to the floor then back up to mine with a mischievous glint. "Me too" she said simply.
I leaned against the railing using my elbows for support. I looked out into the night, watching the waves lap the coasts. It was so quiet, yet I was acutely aware of the pounding of my heartbeat. I looked over to her with solemn eyes, wondering what she was thinking about when she would turn distant and sad like this.
Tragedy,Loss,death.
That was something we both had dealt with. "Whats going on in your head Zee?" I had meant to say the words outloud, but instead kept them to myself.
Tears covered her eyes like a mist, then in a second she blinked them away.
I fully turned towards her, taking her hand. She seemed surprised by the touch but intertwined our fingers all the same. She seemed grateful for the small comfort.
"What are you really doing out here Zee?"
She opened her mouth to protest but I stopped her by placing my lips on hers. It was somewhat a rude interruption, but I hoped she didnt mind.
My heartbeat accelerated to the point I thought she could hear it as well, but I ignored the noise now filling in my ears.
She sighed as I pulled away a moment after. "Your full of surprises today"
I smirked for a second, then my expression turned serious. "Don't lie to me, you can tell me anything" I said.
It was so obvious to see through her, like I could read her head. Sometimes I wished I could.
I braught her a little closer to me and placed my hand on her cheek. "Whats wrong?" I ignored the warmth of her skin, I ignored the scent of her raven hair, I ignored the impulse to kiss her lips. I ignored all of that and stared straight into her blue eyes.
Her eyes go distant again for a second, then haze over with a veil of tears. Like before, she blinks them away before they could spill.
"Just promise me something?"
I keep my composure normal and calm yet she doesn't see my blue eyes widen in surprise.
"Anything" I say truthfully. A simple word, but I really would do anything for her, no matter how corny that would sound if said outloud.
She reaches up to kiss me for the briefest moment. I melt against her.
"Don't…ever…die on me" she said slowly.
Then in a moment I understood. So many had left her before, her father, mother. Was she worried I would leave too?
I kissed her, longer this time as my fingers get lost in her hair. "I promise" I whisper against her lips.
She smiles up at me, intertwining our fingers together as she places my other hand on her face. "It's a promise then Boy Wonder" Her eyes seem lighter than before after I said the words.
I laugh lightly to myself before moving in to kiss her again.
The moonlight shines on her hair.
"I promise Zatanna"
