A/N: SO sorry this is so late. There was not too much inspiration… hope you enjoy I do not own OHSHC
Chika ran into the dojo disturbing his uncle's meditation and not really caring. He tried to catch his breath before he relayed the news, but he knew that the sooner he said something the sooner they could save Satoshi. So he finally spoke up.
"Uncle, we need you and the doctor in Satoshi's room immediately," Chika huffed. His uncle sprang up at this and ran over to his nephew.
"Chika? What happened? Is he OK?" Akira plagued the child with questions.
"He had an accident. We need the doctor I can explain more on the way up to the house, but we need to hurry," Yasuchika insisted.
"I'll get him. Wait here."
Soon the doctor and Akira were rushing back to the dojo and followed Chika to the house. Chika knew that he had to explain what was going on so his uncle would not be shocked and so the doctor could help his cousin. Chika just hoped that the doctor would be enough. He didn't want to have to see his cousin go to the hospital.
"I came over to check on Satoshi to make sure everything was OK. When he didn't respond I kicked down his door and found that he injured himself," Chika panted out. The other two men quickened their pace and Chika tried his best to keep up with them. They came to Satoshi's room to see a horrid sight there. Takashi was trying to stop the bleeding that ran down his baby brother's arm and there was blood everywhere. Akira looked at his oldest child and realized that Takashi was trying to hold back tears. 'He shouldn't have to do this,' Akira thought as he walked over.
"Takashi, the doctor is here. Let him take over," Akira gently said touching his oldest shoulder.
Mori slowly stood up and moved out of the way. He didn't know what was going to happen from here and he didn't really want to know either. He didn't want to face the psychiatrist about his brother and he definitely did not want to see Satoshi locked up in some psych ward. He supposed though if that was what his brother needed then they would have to do that for him. Mori looked over to see the doctor pressing against the wound.
"I can't take care of this here. It is beyond my field skills. Whoever has a cell phone handy please call an ambulance," the doctor instructed. Immediately Chika whipped out his cell phone and shakily dialed for an ambulance. Chika gave the operator all the information and then hung up and looked at the group.
"They said they should be here in about five minutes," He informed the rest of the group. Chika noticed the doctor relax a little and assumed that was a good thing. He was still in shock from what his cousin had done and to the extent that he had done it. Chika vowed in his mind that he would be there for Satoshi no matter what. Chika heard the sirens and soon there were medics rushing into the room. They loaded Satoshi onto a gurney and took him away while Akira followed them. Chika felt a strong arm around him and looked up to see Takashi standing there.
"We will take the other car. Come on," Takashi flatly stated in his deep voice. Chika just nodded and followed his cousin to the waiting car. They sat in silence as the driver pulled away and sped towards the hospital. Before either of them knew what was happening they had arrived at the hospital and rushed into the emergency room.
(A little before in the ambulance with Akira and Satoshi)
"Is he going to make it?" Akira asked one of the paramedics as they sped towards the hospital.
"I don't know sir. He has gone into shock and there is only so much we can do here. He will need more blood and supportive therapy. I can't tell you the odds because he has lost so much blood," the paramedic said as he placed another gauze pad over a portion of the wound. After pushing down hard on the gauze the paramedic got to work securing another IV line in case they needed it. The paramedic looked up at Akira and tried to silently communicate his worries. Akira knew that they might be too late. His memory traced to the study and the argument with the psychiatrist. Akira was starting to wonder if he had done the right thing for his child. Would they be in this situation if they had agreed and put Satoshi in an institution for a little while? He was starting to question his parenting. Then Akira's mind wandered to Takashi. His oldest son had been brave and taken things with stride, but Akira knew that was just a front. He didn't know how long it would be, but he knew that his oldest son was going to crack sooner rather than later. Akira wanted to know how to help. He was jarred out of his plan prematurely as the paramedic announced they were at the hospital. Akira followed as they took Satoshi into one of the ER bays. Soon though Akira was pushed to the side as doctors swarmed around Satoshi, taking vitals and talking among themselves.
"Excuse me sir are you his father?" A nurse questioned as she walked over to the seemingly dazed man.
"Yes I am. Are there any updates on my son?" Akira wondered. He had been watching what they were doing to Satoshi, but his brain hadn't really processed anything.
"Your son lost a lot of blood as you know. After some work we have managed to stabilize him for now, but we will admit him to keep an eye on his condition. We will be moving him to a room shortly. The doctor also started him on a blood transfusion after he was stitched up. You may go with him to the room. Is there anything else I can do for you?" the nurse politely inquired.
"Yes I believe my other son and his cousin are out in the waiting room. Would you please go and get them for me?"
"I will get them for you. Nurse Betty will show you to your son's room and I will meet you there shortly. We are going to do all we can for your son," the nurse comforted Akira.
A few minutes later a woman came and introduced herself as nurse Betty. She led Akira back to a room. Akira inwardly cursed as he realized that the room was the kind of room that was reserved for people with psychiatric problems. He didn't want to be here and he didn't want Satoshi to be here either. Akira did not want to face the doctors. How could he lock away his baby? What would his wife say? Then one question popped up that Akira had not been expecting: What would happen to Takashi? Akira sat down in the chair next to the bed. He waited for what seemed to him like forever before they brought Satoshi in. A tear slipped down Akira's face as he saw the stitches in his son's arm and the words marked there. UNLOVED was the word on his arm and Akira couldn't take the fact that his son would even think that. He was loved, Satoshi was loved more than he could know.
"How is he doing?" a concerned Takashi asked as he walked into the room where his baby brother lay. He looked at the bed and the stitches in his brother's arm confirmed his suspicion. Chika gasped and Takashi took a closer look at Satoshi's arm. When he saw what was carved there he felt like he was going to throw up. The word that had been carved there was untrue. Takashi couldn't imagine why his brother would choose that word after everyone had told him multiple times how much they loved him. Takashi knew now there was no going back. They would have to lock up Satoshi. It was the best thing that they could do for his baby brother and all Takashi wanted was the best for Satoshi. Then the person that everyone had feared walked in, the psychiatrist.
"Hello all. I see that Satoshi has had a pretty bad relapse. All of us need to talk about this," the psychiatrist said leading them to a small room on the other side of the hall. "Satoshi needs a lot of help to get him through this. I think that the best option at this point is to hospitalize him for a short time and see how he does. If he needs more time we can keep him longer. I want the best for Satoshi as I know all of you do as well. I did speak with the emergency physician that treated him so I could assess the gravity of the situation. To be quite honest we almost lost Satoshi today. If he has a relapse like this again and tries the same thing I honestly don't know if he would be as lucky. I recommend that he stay in the hospital until he is stable and after he is medically stabilized we can transfer him to an inpatient program. In my opinion that is the best solution."
"I wanted to fight to keep him with us, but after today I can't risk losing my son," Akira agreed with a slightly choked voice.
"I agree with you, father. I think that we need to do what is best for Satoshi and I think that is having him watched by professionals for a little bit," Takashi agreed.
"I know I am only his cousin, but I want him to work things out. A day without him is like a day without the sun," Chika commented.
"I think this has gone beyond cutting. I don't know what is going on with Satoshi, but when he wakes up I will talk with him and see what is going on. For now we just have to wait."
The psychiatrist led them back to Satoshi's room where a nurse was bandaging his arm. She looked up to see the family and quickly finished what she was doing. She then left the family with a bow and headed off to continue her work with other patients.
"Chika would you mind staying with him for a moment? I want to talk to Takashi, alone for a moment," Akira more told than asked his nephew.
"Sure. I'll call for the nurse if he wakes up or anything," Chika offered hoping that would bring some comfort to his uncle.
"Thank- you Chika. Takashi could you come with me for a moment we need to speak," Akira motioned for his oldest to follow him into the hall.
"What do you need to speak to me about?" Takashi asked with a furrowed brow.
"Are you OK? I know we have been focusing on Satoshi, but I want to make sure that you are doing well also," Akira glanced at his son looking for something. He was met with the slightly hunched form of Takashi. That's when Akira realized there were tears running down Takashi's face. Akira walked over and tentatively put his arms around his oldest son. He felt Takahi shaking in his arms and felt heartbroken. He didn't know what to say to his oldest son. He didn't know what was wrong.
"How could he do this? How could he even think that? I almost lost my brother today and I don't know how I could continue on if I did lose him," Takashi spilled as he tried to regain his composure.
"You don't have to be strong right now. Let yourself feel," Akira reassured his child as he held him even closer.
Takashi didn't know what to do so he leaned into his father and cried. He didn't want to lose his baby brother. UNLOVED came flashing back into his mind as he thought of the words on his brother's arm. It wasn't true. The word wasn't true and Takashi felt like there was nothing he could do to stop this chaos that had become their lives.
