This was actually an assignment for school, where we had to write a parody of the poem "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" by Wallace Stevens. One of the people in my class suggested I write it on Loki-everyone knows I'm obsessed with him ^.^ I think they might have been joking when they suggested it, but I was like, "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!"
I tried to capture thirteen moments from the beginning of the movie Thor to the end of The Avengers. It was actually rather difficult and it took me a while, but here it is! Feedback is always appreciated:D
Disclaimer: I do not own Loki nor the original poem by Wallace Stevens upon which this was based. (You might want to read the original poem if you haven't already.)
Thirteen Ways of Looking at Loki
I
Among the golden chamber,
the only enigmatic thing
was the mind of Loki.
II
I was of three minds,
like an illusion
of which there are three Loki's.
III
Loki whirled in the icy fray.
He was a small part of the disaster.
IV
A god and a monster
are one.
A god and a monster and Loki
are one.
V
I do not know which to prefer,
the horror of lies
or the horror of truths,
Loki breaking
or just after.
VI
Icicles encased the bifrost
with Jotun glass.
The shadow of Loki
crossed it, to and fro.
The mood
traced in his mind
a forlorn cause.
VII
O great gods of Asgard,
why do you cherish only Thor?
Do you not see how Loki
walks in the shadows
and searches for his place among you?
VIII
I know noble intentions
and hysterical, labrythine emotions;
but I know, too,
that Loki is involved
in what I know.
IX
When Loki fell out of sight,
it marked the edge
of ever-present darkness.
X
At the sight of Loki
crouching in the blue light,
even those of heart
would cry out sharply.
XI
Thor flew over Midgard
with his mighty hammer.
Once, a joy pierced him,
in that he mistook
the shadow of himself
for Loki.
XII
The world is ending.
Loki must be playing.
XIII
It was pandemonium all afternoon.
The plan was working
and it was going to work.
Loki waited
to be brought back home.
