Disclaimer: I don't own KHR
The kiss didn't last long. Just a short, chaste kiss to calm the brunette down and he already pulled back. Tsuna's flabbergasted face was so funny that he would've laughed if there had been no tears raining down from her stormy eyes, full of emotions.
The crickets filled the silence between them with their singing. Some fireflies appeared and tinted the park with beautiful blue lights, like snow. Their glow made Tsuna's brown eyes sparkle with blue tints as well as she looked up at the man's black orbs, seemingly dark, endless... and lonely.
Reborn dipped his head down once more and Tsuna flinched, immediately closing her eyes as her cheeks bloomed with red, lips trembling in anticipation.
But instead of landing his lips on her quivering lips, Reborn softly kissed her on her bang. His hands circled around her neck and back and pulled her closer to his chest. The pair of black eyes closed themselves as he breathed the brunette's calming scent deeply. 'This will be the last time…'
"Tsuna, I want you to listen to me closely," Reborn went back to cupping her face with his hands and staring into her eyes; seriousness now lacing his every feature. "I've got to do this mission with my companions. Whatever happen after this, we probably will not be the same us anymore. Even though short, I can firmly and smugly say that I have known you like the back of my hand, so please," His voice was close to begging now. "Don't look for me."
The weight of that word seemed to hit her head like a lead and sent her into oblivion, but she couldn't do anything physically other than furrowing her already furrowed brows and open her mouth slightly. What the hell did he mean by that?
Her question seemed to show in her eyes and Reborn took it as his cue to continue. "Just listen to me this once. This fate can't be avoided – is what my companion said. And I have to agree this time. That's why; don't do anything reckless because up until now, you are the best trouble magnet I've ever met." A small nostalgic smile formed on his lips as he spoke. "Don't get yourself into trouble because of me."
More redness colored the brunette's cheeks and she regained bits of herself back. "W-well, who would?!" She retorted defiantly, arms crossed, chin jutted to the side.
Reborn chuckled like he usually did. It did wonder to Tsuna's racing heart; it was so loud that she was sure the Hitman had heard it. It was all so weird; she felt relieved to see the man yet she felt these excruciating needs of something.
"Will… Will we be able to meet again?" She asked, forever denying that she sounded desperate, but her dam was breaking and she couldn't do anything about that.
"I don't know really." A pause; and Tsuna noted a small tint of hesitation in the man's eyes. He turned to her and raised his hand.
"I'm sorry"
And everything went black for Tsuna.
Reborn caught her before she fell, hit her head on the pavement and probably got her a concussion – he wouldn't want that to happen. He sighed; he started to regret ever agreeing to Giotto. If only he hadn't taken that job, he wouldn't meet Tsuna. If he hadn't met Tsuna, he wouldn't have felt the immense regret he was feeling right now.
He picked her up princess-style and carried her home.
"Tsuna-san…" Gokudera spoke hesitantly. "Your eyes…"
Tsuna sighed. "I know, Gokudera. I know."
Chrome and Yamamoto stayed silent; Gokudera had stated what they wanted to point out.
"Is it… that bad?" The brunette asked after a while of silence, trying to deny that it was that bad.
"Uhh… yes?" The silver-head answered uncertainly.
Another sigh escaped her lips. She buried her face into her folded hands on her desk, wanting to just hide away from the world in her room, under her comforting blanket. But no way was she going to skip class. It took all of her stubbornness to collect herself and drag her feet to the campus.
Even she could say that she was a wreak. This morning she had woken up in her room, no fedora-wearing-Hitman anywhere in sight. Of course, she wasn't stupid to not be able to connect the dots. Reborn left her after bringing her there. And god, she didn't know how to picture her feelings. Her heart hurts so much and she cried her eyes off for two hours straight before falling asleep clutching her pillow. It was fortunate that today was an afternoon class, if not, she wouldn't know to what extent could her feelings got worse.
Her eyes pricked with tears again. This was exactly why he didn't want to have any kind of affection. The betrayal afterward just hurt too much to be ignored. To think that she already found a way around the hole, she was wrong; she fell into the same hole. Though this time, it was probably much deeper.
The three cousins exchanged worried glances, clueless as to what to do. "I'm fine. Just tired…" She spoke in a muffled voice.
There was silence, and then with telepathic agreement, Yamamoto and Gokudera picked Tsuna up, the latter apologizing profusely, and ran, Chrome following not far behind.
"WHA–?! Hey, put me down!"
All the ruckus was concealed perfectly by the lady of the mist.
"You guys are seriously taking it too far." Tsuna groaned, trying to move her limbs under the bind.
The three shook their head in unison as no. "We're not Tsuna-san. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to make you tell us." Chrome spoke, holding her trident tightly.
Gokudera was sulking, beating himself for doing this to Tsuna but not actually doing anything to free her. The same goes for Yamamoto who was silent. Though there was an apologetic look on his face. "Do it, Chrome." He said.
The said girl nodded her head before hitting the butt of her trident to the floor. There was a burst of mist flame surrounding her, flaring around as it kept doubling in volume, before it attacked Tsuna. The brunet gasped and closed her eyes, though she felt no pain whatsoever.
After a while waiting for the pain that was yet to come, she opened an eye, the other one following. There was nothing happening… Or at least she thought so. She blinked her eyes, looking right and left wondering what just happened.
"Tsuna-san." Her attention was immediately to the pineapple haired girl who since God knows when, was in front of her. She looked up to her, "W-What?" She was starting to get intimidated.
Chrome didn't say anything at first, as if purposely drawing off the suspence, before starting to speak. "You will answer truthfully to our question."
Tsuna raised a brow, though the cousins ignored it.
"Tsuna-san, what has been bothering you?" Gokudera asked, finally snapping out of his episode; eyes serious.
The brunette, of course, didn't answer… or at least she didn't intend to. "Reborn left me for a stupid mission. He left me alone, just after I realized that I was actually in love with him, dammit. He even went as far to quit the Vongola to completely cut me off of his life." Her eyes widened and she immediately bit her lip, wondering why she answered that. She blushed a deep shade of red. Damn was that embarrassing. If only she could move her hands, she would be slapping herself now. Chrome's face lightened up slightly while the other two coughed, pretending not to hear it for their savior's sake.
The silver-head suddenly snapped his head to Tsuna. "Wait, what?! Reborn-san quits?!"
Tsuna nodded; eyes full of mixed emotion that Gokudera immediately regret asking that. She must have spent a lot of time trying to forget about that. "Why? Was it for that stupid mission you said?" Curse his mouth and his curiosity, some of Chrome's flames must have seeped into him.
The brunette nodded again, but this time, her eyes were already glistening with tears so he stopped asking through will.
"And your eyes…?" Yamamoto inquired, trailing off, changing the topic.
The brunette bit her lips tightly, hoping it would stop her mouth from answering, but it was in vain as her mouth opened itself and answered to the raven-haired male. "He made me fall asleep amidst of our conversation yesterday and when I woke up this morning, he was nowhere to be found. I was so upset that I cried two hours straight."
The baseball player whistled. "That sure is long." Gokudera hit him for good measure for his comment.
The three of them stayed silent for quite a while. They didn't know what to do. This was not a small matter they could solve alone.
"Is there any clue you know about what the mission was about? Or anything strange that Reborn-san did or had?" Chrome inquired, breaking the silence between them.
Tsuna's eyes clouded in confusion as reaction to the girl's question. "No, I don't. Even he said that he didn't know what the mission was about." Before anyone could interrupt or react, the brunette's eyes suddenly lit up, as if remembering something important. "Oh right, if it's about possessing a weird thing, yes he did. It was long ago. He… He was bringing a small yellow pacifier if I'm not mistaken."
The three gasped hearing what the brunette said.
"A yellow… pacifier? As in pacifier for the baby?" Chrome inquired, shifting closer to Tsuna as if saying something taboo.
Tsuna nodded, "I know. It's weird, right? For someone so cool, sharp and handsome, bringing a pacifier sure brings damage to his image." She blushed; her mouth was spouting compliment for the Hitman without her permission.
The three exchanged looks; this was more serious than they thought.
"I say..." Yamamoto spoke up after a while, "we talk to Giotto?" he asked, unsure.
The other two cousins nodded slowly; that seemed to be the best idea.
"What's wrong?" Tsuna asked, worried with their sudden silence.
Gokudera grinned apologetically, "Ahah, you'll know later, Tsuna-san."
And blackness consumed her again.
"Ohoho, it seems like it's starting again." A man wearing a blind fold over his eyes grinned like crazy, showing his lake of tooth.
"I hope you're prepared for this, descendant of Sephira." The old man said, "My gut feeling told me something different will happen this year."
"Yes" A woman with dark-green hair replied, a small smile playing on her lips. "Something that will finally break this chain of fate."
"Oh, that's something to look forward to! Ohoho!"
Sorry about that. Gosh, that was embarrassing. I went to sleep right after posting it (not even bothered to check) Sorry again for the short chapter.
