Chapter Thirteen
x-X-x
Kagome took a deep breath as she held the sword in her hand and looked at Sesshomaru, "Are you sure?"
Sesshomaru gave her a stern glare, before I sighed, "You are ready. You have come a long way. You are strong Miko. You doubt yourself too much...have confidence."
Kagome gave a small smile. She had learned so much since she started training under the Lord of the West. The two had become close comrades...they became "Pack".
She knew though, in the end she would be leaving the Feudal Era when Naraku was dead. She didn't believe in 'happily Ever After's' anymore. Even if she was leaving, she was happy.
It would take some time to heal from leaving all the ones she have come to know as family behind, but she would make a new life for herself.
"You Will find your happiness one day Miko. It isn't with my brother though."
Kagome looked at Sesshomaru, a sad smile on her face. "Will I keep that happiness though..." She may have more confidence than when she was with Inuyasha, but she still doubted her self worth.
Kagome didn't know if she would ever find someone to love.
The Dog Demon gave her a rare smile, it was a small one but a smile nonetheless, "You will find happiness Miko. This Sesshomaru doesn't down this. You shall find someone worthy and he will fight for you."
Kagome didn't believe this but gave him a nod. She could only hope.
Kagome was brought out of her thoughts as she felt the car come to a stop. That had been the last conversation she had with Sesshomaru, and she never regretted her time with the Demon Lord. She learned much from him, but she also knew if it wasn't for him she would have died during the battle with Naraku.
She didn't know if she would find the happiness Sesshomaru said she would...but maybe. Her blue eyes glanced to Carlisle who put the car in park. 'Maybe he was right...I just have to have more confidence'
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Carlisle asked the miko who just gave a small nod.
"Yes. I think it will be best to talk. This way everything is out in the open. I don't expect anything from Paul. He is free to do what he wishes." She paused, licking her chapped lips as she continued, "I told you I would give you a chance...and I am. Paul has no hold on me..."
Paul didn't have a hold on her, not really. But the imprint bond was still there and strong. All the Cullens knew this. That was why she ran to the wolves away from her Uncle's home. The bond of the imprinting called her.
It was a siren, calling to her with sweet whispered promises of love and happiness only to turn into a howling storm of anger and pain.
Even so she would try to fight it, "If I do anything..." She trailed off. She didn't want to go with Paul or any of the wolves. Kagome made that clear to the Cullens, especially Carlisle.
"I will stop you, as will any of my family if you do something out of character." Carlisle reassured the blue eyed woman, his thumb running over hers softly.
Kagome smiled lightly and nodded her heart filling with warmth at his concern. "I know, thank you." She paused to look out the window of their car towards the rest of the Cullen clan's auras, each of them had jumped in their own vehicles and trailed behind them the second they had brought up the meeting with the pack, they had just met and already they were falling into step like it was meant to be.
Maybe it was, maybe everything she had been through was to lead her to this. This family, this life, this happiness.
She just had one more obstacle to overcome, Paul and his imprint.
It was obvious they both didn't want it so maybe if they put aside their differences they could find a way to break it and then they would never have to see each other again.
Confidence building she stood a bit taller, shoulders back and gaze ahead.
This was just another fight and she would not back down.
She would not give in.
She would win.
"How long until the wolves arrive?" Kagome asked as she glanced around her, eyes looking into the deep wooded area that surrounded her. She didn't feel anyone besides Carlisle and the other Cullen's that were just arriving in their own vehicles.
"They will arrive in the next five minutes" Alice informed as she stepped out of the car she rode with Edward and her own mate, Jasper.
Kagome gave a small nod as she kept her eyes on the woods, she didn't know how was this...meeting..was going to go. She already had a bad feeling and Paul had yet to even arrive.
Shoulders square she moved to get out of the car and leaned against it smiling lightly as Carlisle came to stand next to her his arm wrapping around her waist, pulling her to his side.
Everything felt right.
Kagome just hoped things stayed that way.
