True Love for Eternity Ch.10

I skidded to a stop in front of Charlie and asked, "Jake, what in the hell are you doing!? You just revealed yourself to Charlie for God's sake." I knew that my behavior was irrational, but my fears were not. Now that Charlie knew about the Pack, how long before he figured out the Cullen's secret?

If the Volturi discovered that he knew about vampires, they'd kill him…

Charlie interrupted my ranting by grabbing my shoulder and saying, "Take it easy Bella, don't bite Jake's head off. I already knew about him and the rest of the boys. It's okay kiddo." Still panicking a bit, I asked, "So, if you know about the Pack, then…?" "Yeah, I know about the Cullens Bella. Why do you think I hated that you were going out with Edward? He's the worst vampire boyfriend to have because he's stuck as a kid for eternity. Jasper is a much better choice." I calmed down, amused by the fact that he didn't care that I was dating a vampire as long as said vampire was mature enough for me. Then a horrifying thought popped into my head.

I turned to Charlie and asked, "Dad, did you ever think about the fact that you knew about Edward?" Charlie nodded, making me groan. I turned to Jasper and said, "He'll use that to be seen quickly." Jasper was on the phone before I'd finished and when he hung up, he said, "Caius has been alerted and he wants to talk to all of us as soon as possible. Charlie, how did you figure it out?" Charlie snorted and said, "It wasn't that hard. Always absent on sunny days and none of you eat. Not to mention that all of you have the same color eyes despite being 'adopted'. Yeah, it wasn't that hard to figure out son." Jasper chuckled and said, "I knew that ruse was going to fail one of these days."

Shaking my head in disbelief, I asked, "So what did you need to talk to us about Dad?" Sighing, Charlie said, "Well, this mess for a start. How long have you known about Jake and the Cullens?" Wincing a bit, I said, "Probably since I moved back here. Cullens first, then Jake and the Pack." He sighed and asked, "And the real reason you ran off earlier this year?" Taking a deep breath, and getting a boost of confidence from Jasper, I told him everything. Port Angeles, James, Victoria, the ballet studio, etc. As I finished, I showed him the bite mark on my wrist. He turned to Jasper and asked, "Did that idiot of a brother of yours have to do this?"

Jasper growled low and said, "No, in fact he was told it would be better to let Bella turn. His refusal to let her soul be damned, his belief not ours, forced Carlisle's hand. Since he had to keep an eye on Bella's nicked artery, Edward had to suck the venom out. He almost didn't stop."

Charlie said, "Pardon my French, but isn't Carlisle the head of your family? Shouldn't he have decided what happened? I'd rather my daughter be like you than have her go through that kind of torture." Jasper sighed and said, "He is, but Edward's gift has made him de facto leader. Not by our choice believe me, but because he was Carlisle's first companion and Carlisle just doesn't argue. His punishment of him this time was harsh, but probably wouldn't have lasted long. Same thing goes for Alice. Their gifts, at least with Carlisle and Esme, make them more important."

Charlie said, "That's bullshit right there. Seems to have given Eddie an ego the size of Montana and Alice is just spoiled. By the way, how's she taking the two of you being together?" Jasper growled again as he said, "Not well, which doesn't make any sense." Turning to me, he said, "I warned Caius about her as well. She and Edward are always helping each other." Something about that sat wrong with me, but I pushed it aside as Jasper gave Charlie a quick telling of what Alice had done the night before and this morning. Charlie shook his head and said, "Like I said, spoiled and just as egotistical."

Charlie turned to Jake and said, "You asked me to get them here. Your show kid." Jake cleared his throat and said, "The redhead's been scented along our border. Sam has reluctantly agreed to let me handle her. Do you think you and the rest of your family would help us?" Jasper nodded and said, "Emmett's always itching for a fight. Can you get Sam to meet with us to strategize? Also, we need to discuss Bella's change."

Jake started to argue, but I said, "Jake, if I'm not turned after graduation, Forks and the Rez will be obliterated. Tell Sam that." He reluctantly nodded and said, "I'll tell him." He nodded to all three of us before running to the Rabbit and speeding off back towards the Rez.

Taking a deep breath, I turned to Charlie and asked, "Dad, could you do me a favor?" At his nod, I said, "When you're not a work, go to the Rez. I'd feel better and saner if I knew that you were somewhere safe when you're not working." He nodded and said, "Absolutely Bella. Actually, that's another thing I wanted to talk to you and Jasper about." We went inside and he started to talk.

Apparently, the police chief on the reservation was ill and could no longer look after the Quileute tribe. Since he didn't have a deputy and no other tribe member was willing to take on the job, Billy had recommended Charlie for the job and the Elders had in turn offered it to Charlie. It came with a place on the council, a house and a slight raise. Charlie had quickly accepted and once Emmett had fixed the house, he was putting it on the market. He had mainly asked us over to tell me the news and to ask if the Cullens would be okay with me moving in. Jasper laughed and said, "Esme would have moved her in the moment we first met her. Trust me, she'll be fine with it."

So Charlie discussed when we'd start packing and what we'd tell Renee. Nothing about the Cullens and the Pack obviously. Frankly, I didn't see the point in telling her anything. She barely kept in touch with me and never talked to Charlie. But it was agreed that we would at least tell her about the move in case she came to visit. Nothing more than that.

After that, Jasper said, "We'd better get going Charlie. We need to let the family know about you knowing and talk to Caius about Edward and Alice. Also need to start getting their input about Victoria." Charlie nodded, gave me a quick kiss on the forehead, shook Jasper's hand and said, "Take care of each other." As we left, Charlie tossed Jasper a large drawstring pouch and said, "Old Quil handed me that the other day. Said what's inside will keep 'those who See from Seeing'. Said there's something in there for all of you." Jasper nodded and we left.

As Jasper drove, I opened the pouch. Inside were 3 dream catcher necklaces and 3 rings with a dream catcher design on them. Jasper asked, "What do you think the shaman meant? To keep those who See from Seeing?" I thought about it for a few minutes and then said, "Old Quil is very good at reading a person's character. He's also protective of those he considers family. He's been like that ever since he lost everyone in his family except Young Quil. These are meant to protect all of us from being Seen." Jasper said it first, "Alice. To keep her from catching what we're doing in her visions." Handing him the ring marked for him, I slipped one of the necklaces over my head as I said, "We'll get the others to put theirs on before we get Caius on the phone. I'll see if I can get another set for them Volturi if I have to."

Jasper shook his head and said, "No need. Each of the kings have their own Shield. Caius never does anything without his nearby. He'll have her right beside him if he's smart." Nodding, I said, "At least Charlie is safer for the time being. How will Caius react?" Jasper bit his lip as he said, "Not sure. Since we didn't actually tell him and Charlie hasn't revealed us, he may offer to turn him or protect him. Depends on how his mood is when we call." "Do you think he'll agree to wait until I've graduated to be turned?"

He nodded and said, "He'll do it, especially since I'm your Mate." When he saw my confused face, he said, "Being Mated means that you're under my protection. As my Mate, I'll decide when you're to be turned. It's how it works in our world." Trying to keep my rising anger in check, I asked, "So because I'm human, I can't make my own decisions now that I'm Mated to a big strong vampire?" I think Jasper felt something because his eyes went wide and he said, "No Bella, that's not what I meant." He pulled over again, pulled me out of the car and said, "Of course you have a say in when you'll be turned. I'd never take that choice from you Isabella. What I meant was that the Volturi have no say in when you'll be turned because you and I are Mates. Only the two of us decide when."

Calming myself down, I asked, "So it's not because I'm a pathetic, weak human?" I heard a deep growl as Jasper gently grabbed me by the nape of my neck, tilted my head back and said, "I never want to hear you call or say that about yourself EVER again. Am I clear Isabella?" Trying to keep myself calm, and not show Jasper how turned on I was, I said, "Yes Sir." Jasper's eyes flashed a dark shade of amber before he pulled me to him and seized my mouth, hard.

He ravaged my mouth and caressed my body so passionately that I thought I'd fall apart in his arms. I arched into him as he wrapped my legs around his waist and pulled me closer. Just as I started to get dizzy, Jasper released my mouth, trailing his lips down my neck to my shoulder. As air returned to my lungs, so did clarity to my mind. Running my fingers thought Jasper's hair, I said, "As much as I'm enjoying this Jasper, I don't think Charlie would like seeing this if he drove by right now." A deep, dark chuckle resonated as Jasper lifted his head and said, "Such a tease darlin', but you're right. Home?" Nodding, I said, "Home."

We got back in the car and finished the drive back to the Cullen house.

As we pulled into the garage, I noticed that Alice's yellow monstrosity was still gone. Hopefully far from this family and Edward. Grabbing the pouch, I took Jasper's outstretched hand and held it tight as we walked inside.

Carlisle spotted us first and asked, "So what did Charlie want to talk to you about?" Taking a deep breath, I said, "Well, you're going to have to come up with a different story for the family when we move. Charlie knows." Everyone came into the living room just as Jasper said, "And Edward knows that Charlie knows." Esme asked, "What are we going to do?" As Jasper told them about his conversation with Caius and got Emmett to start setting up the video call to call Caius back, I handed out Old Quil's gifts.

As we waited for the call to connect, Rose asked, "Why are the Quileute's willing to help us so much?" I said, "Like I told Jasper, Old Quil is very protective of those he considers family. He's also good at reading people." Emmett asked, "But why protect us from Alice? Sure, she's been a real bitch lately, but not really dangerous or anything." A thought entered my head and I asked, "Jasper, how close would you say Alice and Edward are?" Jasper was silent for a bit before he said, "Pretty close I'd say. Their gifts brought them close, especially after we joined the family and signed the treaty."

I asked, "Did you signed the treaty together, as Mates?" Jasper shook his head, running his fingers up and down my arm as he said, "Didn't really want to give her hope that we could become Mates, so I went on a hunt with Emmett the day she signed." "Did the Alpha ever see you two together as Mates?" Again, he was silent for a few minutes before he said, "Now that you mention it, I don't think he ever did. Alice always stood closer to Edward when we met with the Alpha." Carlisle must have seen something in my eyes because he asked, "What are you thinking Bella?"

Sighing, I said, "When Alice told me about the vision of her true Mate, she never mentioned who or what he even looked like. For something that made her so happy, she didn't seem eager to share like she normally did." Jasper said, "So you're thinkin' that maybe Alice finally 'Saw' Edward as her Mate?" Nodding, I asked the one question I'd hoped I didn't need to ask, "Since you joined the family, how often did Alice and Edward go off hunting alone together?"

The entire family was silent as a cemetery while they pondered my question. Jasper seemed to go paler as I looked at him, almost as if the wheels turning in his head were revealing something he didn't want to think about. Yet it was Emmett that answered, saying, "They went hunting together all the time. Even more so before we moved here this time…" Jasper pulled away from me and said, "Excuse me." He ran upstairs to our room and I heard the door to his study slam slightly. As I stood up to follow, Emmett asked, "What's wrong with Jasper? All I said…" Sighing I said, "Imagine finding out that Rose just used you for a plaything for 60 years or more. Even knowing that you aren't meant to be together forever, it still hurts to find out that you've been betrayed like that." I quickly ran up the stairs, went into our room and went to Jasper's study.

Knocking on the door, I asked, "Jasper, can I come in?" I barely heard his sigh as he said, "Of course you can darlin'." Going inside, I locked the door behind me and went to him. He was still silent as I sat on the desk in front of him, so I said, "Jasper, please talk to me." He sighed and said, "60 years Bella. 60 years of following her every whim and order. And for what? To find out that despite being faithful while waiting for my real Mate, she's been screwing Edward fucking Cullen behind my back. Why did she choose me?"

Moving to his lap and letting him wrap his arms around me, I said, "I'm going to ask you something and tell you what I think about this whole mess. But first, I think you're the most amazing man I've ever known. Anyone who doesn't see that isn't worth your time." He kissed my forehead and I said, knowing that he needed the reassurance, "Know this too Jasper. I will NEVER hurt you like she did. Ever." I made him look me in the eyes so he could see the truth in mine. He smiled, kissed me softly and said, "I know you never would Sugar and neither will I. What we have is real." He leaned back, pulling me close as he asked, "So what's your theory about this whole mess Bella?"

Rubbing my hand on his chest, I asked, "Before you met up with Alice, were you well known in the vampire world?" Jasper nodded and said, "Due to my time with my maker, Maria, I was and still am known as The Major or the God of War." He then gave me a brief, yet detailed telling of how he became a vampire. After he'd finished, I asked, "So Alice would have heard about how powerful and deadly you are?" At Jasper's nod, I said, "I think Alice chose you for this game of hers for two reasons. One being that she knew you'd protect her. Why she chose to manipulate you and control you I will never know."

"And the second?" "I need to ask Caius something first before I tell you that one Cowboy." Grabbing his hand in mine, I said, "I just hate that you had to go through all this just for us to be together." Jasper pulled me closer and said, "So do I darlin', but at least we're together now." He looked at the clock and said, "We'd better get back down there. The call to Caius finally went through." Nodding, I followed him downstairs, entering the living room just as Caius Volturi's face came on the screen.

He was imposing, yet friendly when he saw us. He smirked and said, "Ah, Major Whitlock, good to see you. And this must be Isabella." I just nodded as we sat down with the rest of the family. Jasper said, "Good to see you too Caius. Any sign of Edward or Alice yet?" Caius shook his head and said, "Nothing yet. I'm sending Demetri and Felix your way. Felix will probably arrive first while Demetri attempts to locate them. But since it's been a few years since he's been near them, it may not take long for him to join you as well." I asked, "May I ask you something?" At Caius' nod, I asked, "Was Jasper ever at risk for punishment for what he did during the Southern Wars?"

Caius smirked again as he asked, "Protective of you already Major? Perfect Mate right there." As Jasper kissed my head, Caius got serious and said, "Not at all. We usually take quite a few things into consideration before we punish one of our own." "Like what?" "Well, like what Maria Esparza did with her progeny and how she taught them to survive." Jasper snorted and said, "She didn't teach. I did." Caius nodded and said, "Taking that, and the fact that you were practically dragged into her wars and that you bettered yourself as soon as your got away, we decided not to take any action against you." He leaned forward and asked, "Why did you want to know Isabella?"

Taking a deep breath, I said, "I believe that Alice Brandon chose Jasper for two reasons. One was what she heard about him. She knew that he could protect well. But there is a more dangerous reason." Looking at Jasper, I said, "I think she chose him for his ability to wage war."

Jasper's eyes went wide as he said, "Fuckin' hell." Nodding, I turned to Caius and said, "Alice has always controlled people with her visions. I believe she and Edward are together and they are plotting something against us and you in Italy. I think she wanted to use Jasper more than Edward, but without knowing if Jasper was under watch for what he did in the south, she changed her plans and decided to just go with Edward." Lifting my dream catcher necklace, I said, "Hence why Old Quil gave us these." Carlisle said, "To keep her in the dark."

Turning to Caius, I asked, "Will the Volturi agree to allow me to turned after I graduate?" At his nod, I asked, "And my father?" Caius sighed and said, "I discussed things with Marcus and Aro. Your father will be offered the change to become a vampire, but if he refuses, he will be allowed to live out his life as a human. He shouldn't be punished for being clever enough to figure us out." We all laughed.

As Caius said his goodbyes and made arrangements with Esme for Demetri and Felix's arrival, Carlisle's cell phone rang. He picked it up and after saying a few things under his breath, he hung up. Turning to me and Jasper, he said,

"That was Sam. He and the Elders want to meet. Now."
