Well I figured I'm going to have to give this kid a name at some point, so why not now? Sorry about not updating and stuff... but on I'm back at school so I'll have a set schedule, so updates will come more frequently, hopefully... harder classes this year...
On a different note, have any of you read "The Fault In Our Stars"? I both love and hate that book.
Peeta's POV
"Please, this isn't the Katniss I know, I don't know what happened to you but I'll make it right, I'll do whatever it takes for you to just remember." Hot tears slide down my face as I look into her own teary eyes and fold her into my arms.
She pushes away from me looking to the door. "Who's there," she asks loudly.
"There's no one at the door, I think you need to get some sleep. Lay down." I assure her. She crawls under the covers and I lay both Demer and the child I'll call LUK, for Little Unknown Kid. They both look so peaceful and it only makes me resolve harden to find his parents and return him safely.
She fell asleep quickly and I left once again to call a few other people, Johanna, Annie and Plutarch mainly.
"Hello?" A female voice answers.
"Yes, is this Plutarch's office?"
"Yes May I ask who's calling?" She responds in an almost robotic voice.
"Oh I'm sorry, this is Peeta... Mellark? An old friend of his."
"Mr. Mellark I'm sorry, I'll patch you right through." Moments later I'm on the phone with the man I need to talk to.
"Plutarch, I have a bit of an issue that I think you can clear up for me."
"Well hello to you to Peeta, how's Katniss?" His jolly tone rings through the phone.
"That's the issue... um... how are you on legal advice?"
"What's going on? Are the two of you having issues? Surely this isn't what I think." He babbles on for a few minutes before I can finally cut in.
"No, it's not that. Katniss did something... and I believe it violates her parole. I need someone who can help me with this. I'm trusting that you know someone?"
"Of course, say no more, I'll have my assistant connect you to someone."
There's a brief minute of dead silence on the line before another assistant picks it up.
"Hello this is the office of Vatim Orites, you will have to wait for a moment there's currently a meeting in process, it should be only a few. Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime, Mr. Mellark?"
"No, I can't think of it, Ms?"
"Oh I'm sorry this is Vacy Ervice. It looks like the meeting's over I'll transfer you in now. Have a good day." There's yet more silence on the phone and another person's picked out up.
"Hello, Mr. Mellark, this is Miss. Orites, what is the matter at hand?" A soft feminine voice flows over the line.
Miss? How did I not see this coming? A woman lawyer? I didn't think women held such roles in the Capitol. It seemed to me, from what television I watched, that they were the 'inferior gender', the laughing stalks of the community.
"Um yes... Well my wife... she's not in a good state right now... she kidnapped a child at some point today or yesterday, I don't know what time it is. I was just wondering what this'll mean for her. I just really want to help her and-"
"Wait, was she the one who stole the baby from the crime scene today?" She suddenly gasps.
"Crime scene? She told me she was in a baby shop and saw the baby, thought it was ours and took it."
"You really need to turn on the news. You said she thought the child was yours? I thought you only had a daughter? Dara? Adara? Something like that."
"That's an entirely different story, right now I need to know more about this case. What happened?" I implore.
"Well ask we know is that a mother was murdered and her child taken by someone who matches Katniss's description. I still need more clarification on the state of mind your wife was in that may have caused this."
"Well, we... we lost a baby a few months back..." I continue explaining what all had happened and then Miss. Orites goes into further detail about the murder victim. "So well be needing to come back into the city, that's what you're trying to tell me?"
"Yes, I'm sorry, but this is necessary." She informs me.
"I understand. Week be on the first train back. But can you please tell me what she'll be facing, charges wise? I don't know if she could mentally handle anything more right now." I practically beg into the receiver.
"Depending on her psych evaluation, she'll either do time in jail, have community service, out be sent to a psych hospital for rehabilitation. The outlooks are fairly bleak but since she is a Victor that'll help with her case." She says fairly hopefully.
"Thank you for your time, I have to go now."
"Have a good day." She replies, which only causes me to snort sarcastically replying with a 'sure' and then hanging up.
Silence hangs in the air pushing me until I finally just throw the phone at a wall and resist the urge to start punching myself in the face. In one fugging day I have lost Katniss not only once but twice. Why can't we just live happily ever after? I just hope they don't think she killed the woman. She would never do that. What's this going to do to Demer? Her mother is being accused of murder. Murder? Why is fate so cruel?
I hope you liked it, again apologizing for the length between updates...
Please leave a review , and fug it, DFTBA!
