"Oh my God Jack! I'm so sorry!" Jerry yelled again.
"Jerry, please stop screaming, I'm fine. Is there any way you can get Mika in here? I need to talk to you both without the kids."
Jerry nodded as Nurse Darrus walked back into the room with Jack's gauze and bandages. "Um, Nurse Darrus," Jerry asked weakly.
"Yes Mr. Martinez? Are you in pain?"
"Yes, but that can wait. Is there any way you can get my wife in here for me?"
"Do you also want me to ask a nurse to watch your kids too?"
Jerry nodded. "If it wouldn't be too much trouble."
"Not at all Mr. Martinez."
After bandaging up Jack, Nurse Darrus walked out of the room and up to the nurse's station. She chatted with the nurses and asked if they could watch over Jason and Jina until Mika came back. They all agreed they would keep an eye out on the now, both, sleeping children.
"Mrs. Martinez? Your husband would like to see you. And don't worry about your kids, we'll look after them. This sounds important."
Mika thanked the nurses and walked quickly to Jerry's room. When she got there she ran to Jerry's side, ignoring Jack and his broken nose, completely focusing on what could be so important that he didn't want the kids present. She held him closely as questions started flowing from her mouth.
"How are you Jerry? Are you in pain? Do you need more pain meds? Why did you want to see me without the kids?"
Jerry carefully pulled himself out of Mika's warm embrace and nodded towards Jack. "Actually Jack asked for you."
Mika scrunched her face in confusion and relaxed it when she realized that Jack was still in the room. She turned to face him and saw the heavy bandaging on the bridge of his nose.
"Oh my God Jack! What happened to you?" Mika asked, now babying over Jack.
"Nothing happened, Mika. Someone hit me with words, and then his fist."
Mika turned towards Jerry. "Why the hell would you curse at him, then hit him, Jerry?"
Jerry looked at her dumbfounded and Jack laughed. "Thanks for laughing, dude," Jerry said, "And it wasn't me that hit him."
Mika looked between Jerry and Jack confused, "Then who did?"
Jack hung his head as he remembered all the angry words that Jason had said to him. Tears started to gently fall as Mika pulled up a chair to sit next to Jack. She gently wrapped her arms around Jack, which made his tears fall harder.
"Sweetheart, who did this to you?"
Jack wiped the tears from his eyes and said in a breathy whisper, "Jason.
Mika looked up from Jack and turned towards her husband. "My son Jason? Jerry is this true?" Jerry nodded his head and Mika let out a breath. "I am grounding for so long, he's going to be translucent before he gets to see natural light again."
Jack looked at Mika. "That's a little harsh, don't you think?"
Mika shook her head. "Nah, I don't think so. He should know not to use karate on other people, especially when he is upset. And thanks for reminding me, Jack. No karate for a month either."
Jerry shook his head in complete disagreement. "That I'm not allowing. There is a kidnapper running around and I am not going to have him running around defenseless!"
"I have to agree with Jerry on this one Mika. Taking Jason out of karate could put him at a physical risk. Besides your home, the safest place for Jason and Jina would be at the dojo with Rudy. Maci is already missing, I don't want anything happening to your kids too,"
Mika looked down sadly. "You're right."
After a couple minutes of awkward silence, Mika looked up at Jack, "So how are we getting Maci back?"
Jack hung his head and clasped his hands together. He went to speak, but Jerry spoke up before he could utter a syllable. "Jack is staying with us until Maci is found."
Jack went to speak, but, again, Jerry spoke up before he could. "No arguing, you're staying with us. If I need you to look over something, I don't want to have to wait for you to get to my house."
"But what about Jason? I really don't want to upset him any further by being in your home."
Mika looked over at Jack. "Don't worry. Like I said, Jason is going to be grounded for a while. He'll be spending most of his time in his soon to be empty room."
Jack nodded and Jerry continued. "So the minute I'm out of here, Rudy is coming over, maybe staying with us for a while also, so he can help on a hunch that I have."
"And what hunch would that be?" Rudy asked as he walked into the room. "Sorry I interrupted. Jason said you guys were in here, then I heard my name being mentioned, so I had to check it out."
"Rudy," Jack said standing up, wrapping Rudy in a painful hug. "Thank God you're here."
"Dude, calm down. You saw me, like, two days ago." Rudy pulled away from Jack and saw the bandages on his nose. "Jack, what happened to your nose? Wait have you been crying? Hey, where's Maci?"
"Um. It's a long story," Jack said sinking back down in his chair. Mika got up and motioned for Rudy to take her seat while she sat on Jerry's bed at his feet.
"Luckily, I've got time. So start talking." Rudy said sitting down in Mika's previous seat.
Jerry and Jack told Rudy everything from the shooting, all the way up to right before Rudy walked in.
"Jerry…you don't think it could be them…do you?" Rudy asked nervously.
Jack looked at Rudy confused. "Who?"
"I don't know, man," Jerry said shrugging his shoulders. "Aren't they still in prison?"
"What? Who's in prison?" Jack asked looking at Jerry.
"Unfortunately, no. They were released around the time Jack started receiving his death threats." Rudy said to Jerry.
"My death threats? What do those have to do with Maci?"
"So it probably is them?" Jerry asked.
Rudy nodded, "Most likely."
"Who the heck is 'Them'?" Jack yelled standing up in frustration.
"Jack who's hated you since you stole his girlfriend?" Mika asked.
"Frank."
"Who's wanted your spotlight since you've earned it?" Rudy asked.
"Ty."
"And who has wanted you dead since you kicked his ass in China?" Jerry asked.
"Kai…but I don't see what those three would want Maci for."
"I don't think it's about Maci, dude. I think they're trying to lure you in so that they can get you," Jerry said, suddenly going very pale.
"But why Maci? I barely know her."
"Well, Maci is Kim's daughter and-"
"But I barely know Kim! I may like her, but it's because she reminds me of my Kim…and that's why they're targeting her….Dammit!"
Jerry shifted uncomfortably in his bed. "Jack, listen there's something I need to tell you. Something really big."
"What?" Jack asked sitting back down.
"Jack…Kim and Maci-"
All of a sudden, Jack's phone started ringing. "Gimmie a second; it's Kim." Jack stated as he stood back up and walked out the door to answer his phone.
"OH COME ON!" Jerry yelled as Jack shut the door. "It's like the universe doesn't want him to know," Jerry grumbled as he threw his hands in the air in frustration.
"Or it could be the universe's way of telling you to shut up and let Kim tell him," Mika said sarcastically. Jerry stuck his tongue out at her still upset about the inconvenient phone call.
"Geez. You two are just a bucket of joy towards each other, aren't y'all?" Rudy asked laughing.
"We're just peachy, twenty- four seven." Jerry grumbled, jokingly.
"Husband, I'm going to go check on Jack. Hurry up and heal so that you can get off your lazy ass and help your best friend," Mika yelled at Jerry.
Jerry thought Mika was being serious, until she turned her head and stuck her tongue out at him, before walking out of the room.
"Ya! We're peachy!" Jerry yelled after her.
You guys I sincerely apologize for taking so long to update. Since my last update, I have almost finished a full year of university four states away from home. Besides having school hit me like a fully loaded freight train, I have had the worst case of writers block. But you guys helped me pull through with your comments asking me to come back. I take time to read everyone's comments and reviews, and they help me when I'm caught up with writers block. So please review, and it might get the next chapter up quicker.
