Merlin didn't ask for weeks afterward, because frankly he was too scared.

He'd been arrested, and no one had stopped it… But what had they said, among themselves? What had they been thinking? Had the knights actually believed…?

Finally he had to ask, because it was killing him, so he made his way up to each of the knights individually and asked.

"What did you think when the queen accused me of trying to kill Arthur?"

They stuttered a lot, but between them, he got his answers.

Leon hadn't really thought about it one way or another. He'd been to busy panicking about how Arthur was going to die and determined to protect Gwen and make her be a good queen when she was going to take charge. Merlin had left his head as soon as he left the room.

Percival had just sort of… gone with it. Honestly, it hadn't occurred to him to even wonder if Merlin was innocent or not. He figured Merlin was not in jail, and then Merlin was in jail. Merlin had been in jail many times. Percival didn't really question authority well.

Gwaine laughed at Merlin when he asked, because of course he knew Merlin was innocent. They just had more to worry about at the moment; Gwaine had decided not to panic until Merlin was actually in any danger. And honestly, how could he be in any danger from Guinevere? They were the best of friends. Soon enough it would be resolved.

Mordred blinked at him. "I knew it wasn't your time to die, Emrys."

Merlin stared at him. "Seriously?"

Mordred shrugged. "You're supposed to be great. You aren't great yet."

"You decided not to even question it because…"

"Destiny."

Merlin nodded. "Basically, out of everyone I know, the only person who thought that my imprisonment was cause for any kind of concern or action was the person I was accused of poisoning?"

Mordred nodded. "Yes, that's right."

"I hate you," Merlin told him. "You and your destiny."

Mordred shrugged. "Fair enough," he said, adjusted his cape, and walked off.
