Chapter 3
"Mum!" Amy yelled, walking down the stairs, while bobbing her head to the music she was listening to.
"Amy dear, why don't you take of your earphones out and THEN talk to me?" Isabella asked, shaking her head when she realized that the pink hedgehog could not hear her. "AMY!"
"Huh? Oh, sorry mum." Amy smiled sheepishly, taking out one of her earphones. "Has dad gone?" When her mother nodded her head, and started making her way to the kitchen, the pink female followed her. "What are you making, mum?"
"Cupcakes. You like them, don't you?" Isabella smiled at her daughter, watching Amy jump on the counter and return the smile.
"What flavour...?" She questioned, raising one of her eyebrows and licking her lips as she eyed the mixture of ingredients in a bowl.
"Chocolate!" The older female exclaimed, putting on her light blue apron on. Amy squealed and reached out to hug her, nearly losing her balance and falling flat on her face.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! You're the best, mum!" She exclaimed, hugging her mother tighter, who giggled.
"You are most welcome honey. Are you going somewhere?" Isabella asked, trailing her eyes down Amy's clothes. She was dressed in a short sleeved red top that had the words, 'Pretty Princess' printed out in bold white letters, with white skinny jeans. On her feet, she wore red vans.
"Yeah, me Rouge, Blaze and Cream are gonna go shopping for my birthday. I mean, my birthday is next week! We don't have that much time!" Amy took out her other earphone out too, and stuffed both her phone and her earphones in the little black bag that she would take with her.
Isabella giggled again. "I'm not stopping you Amy, go on then, your friends are waiting for you." She was about to turn around, but stopped once she saw something. "Dear, is that...?"
"What?" Amy looked down to see what her mother was talking about when she realized that her mother had seen the silver chain around her neck.
"Yeah, mum. It's Shadow's gift..." She trailed off, sighing at the end. She felt her bangs get brushed to the side and looked up into her mother's warm blue eyes.
"Sweetie, you miss him a lot, don't you?" Isabella questioned softly, and Amy felt tears form in her eyes. "Awh, Amy." She pulled her daughter in a hug, and Amy let the tears fall as she closed her eyes.
"He was my best friend mum. We were friends since we we're in diapers!. How can I not miss him? Why did he have to leave? He was my first best friend ever. No one can ever take his place." The younger pink hedgehog sobbed quietly, letting out her emotions.
"I know honey, I know. Maybe you will see him one day. Why don't you go shopping with your friends now, hmmm?" Isabella ran a hand through Amy's long pink quills, attempting to comfort her.
"You're right mum. I will see you later," she grabbed her bag from the counter and grinned at her mother, no sign of tears on her face anymore. "Bye mum!"
"Bye sweetie!" Isabella waved at her daughter with a smile on her face, and when the rose coloured hedgehog had left the kitchen, she sighed.
"Hey girl! You finally remember that you actually have friends!" Rouge rolled her eyes playfully, pulling the pink hedgehog towards her in a hug.
"Rouge, my dad says that I don't spend much time with them, and you tell me that I finally remember you guys. I think I'm gonna go crazy!" Amy muttered, sharing a few laughs with the albino bat.
"Hey! That's not fair! I want a hug too!" A creamy coloured rabbit pouted, jumping on Rouge and Amy.
"Group hug!" A lavender cat giggled, also joining in the hug. They all laughed and pulled away.
"Ok, ok. That's enough." Amy breathed in and out, grinning at her three friends. Blaze, the purple cat and Cream, the rabbit both grinned back, while Rouge laughed again.
"I agree," the bat smiled, before her eyes narrowed a little. "What is that? What I mean is, who gave it to you?" She asked, her eyes widening as her lips stretched out in a grin.
"What are you talking about Rouge?" Amy questioned back with a confused tone, Blaze and Cream shooting the white bat confused glances too.
"I'm talking about this! Where did you get it from? It's so beautiful!" Rouge exclaimed, grabbing the silver chain that hung around Amy's neck and examined it.
"Oh, this? Er, a friend of mine gave it to me." The pink hedgehog shrugged, pulling it out of Rouge's hands.
"You mean your secret boyfriend gave it to you. Who is it Amy?" Blaze asked in a teasing manner, Rouge and Cream smiling slyly.
"It has a 'S' hanging on it. Let me guess, his name begins with S?" Cream grinned, nudging the pink female.
"Ok, fine. I'll tell you guys." Amy rolled her jade orbs, watching her friends' grins get wider. "When I was young, I had a best friend called Shadow."
"Had? Is he-" Blaze questioned with an apologetic frown, but got cut off by the rose-coloured hedgehog.
"No! Thank goodness! He just... Left. I haven't seen him since then. He gave this to me so that I wouldn't forget him." Amy explained, laughing at the end. "Seems like he has forgotten about me..."
"Aw, don't say that hun. You never know. He might miss you just as much as you miss him..." Rouge hugged the pink hedgehog while Cream and Blaze nodded their heads.
"If so, why doesn't he contact me?" Amy pulled away, raising an eyebrow. The bat shrugged.
"He might have, er, you know... Lost your phone number or something." Blaze suggested, before sighing. "I dunno actually."
"Are we gonna go shopping or are we just gonna stand here looking like idiots with no homes?" Cream asked, nodding at the cars that were waiting for them to cross the street. They hadn't realized that they were standing in the middle of the road.
"Let's just... Forget about him, ok? I really need to buy some stuff for my birthday party!" Amy grinned as the four friends made their way to the other side of the street.
"Let's go then!" Rouge linked her arm through Amy's, who linked it to Blaze, who finally grabbed Cream's arm and put her hand through.
"Phew! Most of the shopping has been done. We will go shopping again tomorrow. Oh my God! My birthday is next week! I'm very excited!" Amy grinned, brushing her bangs away from her eyes. She held two bags in each hand.
"I know! I'm excited too and it's not even my birthday!" Cream giggled, holding two bags in one hand and one in the other.
"Ahahahaha, you girls are acting as if your boyfriends are gonna propose to you!" Rouge laughed, Amy and Cream shooting her glares playfully. Blaze rolled her eyes.
"Rouge, I think you have forgotten how excited you were on your birthday. You were acting as if the whole world was yours!" The lavender cat pointed out, laughing along with Amy and Cream. Rouge rolled her eyes and scoffed.
"Just remember YOUR birthday hun! We may have been excited or in Amy's case, may be excited, but you got so embarrassed in your birthday party. I can still remember every single thing that happened that night!" Rouge smirked at Blaze, the cat's face turning bright red. "Humph! Seems like I won an argument again!"
"Alright, that's enough you guys." Amy said, trying to hold back a giggle. "I'm gonna go home now. I'll see you guys again tomorrow?"
"Of course! We need to have as much fun as we can! The summer holidays are gonna end soon!" Rouge smiled brightly, and with a nod and a 'goodbye' to each other, all of them parted ways.
Amy sighed and made her way to her house. She looked down at the silver chain that she was wearing and shifted the bags in one hand, while she gripped the chain in her other hand. "Where are you Shadow...?"
SNAP!
The pink female froze at the sound, and then spun around. Her eyes narrowed. There was no one behind her... 'Then what was that noise?' Shrugging and not thinking too much about it, she turned around and started walking again. 'Probably a cat...'
"Boo!" A loud voice shouted in her ear which sounded very familiar somehow.
"Ahhhhhh!" Amy screamed, spinning around while her hand flew to her chest. She glared at the laughing blue hedgehog that stood before her.
"Ahahahahaha! Man, that was hilarious!" Sonic laughed, wiping away a few tears away from his eyes as he held on to his stomach. The pink hedgehog glared again, and then swung the bags that she had in her hand and hit him on the head. Sonic immediately stopped chuckling and held his head. "...Ow..."
"Now THAT was funny." Amy grinned, moving past him. The azure male jogged to keep up with her.
"Sorry Ames," he apologized, but she said nothing, just kept on walking with an expressionless face. "Aw, come on Amy! I said I am sorry!" Amy stopped and faced him.
"Don't do that ever again." She warned him, seeing him nod his head. "Alright, so what do you want?"
"Nothing. I saw you and decided to have some fun. Too bad though, 'cause you are such a party pooper." Sonic shrugged, the pink female rolling her jade orbs. "Oooh, cool chain you've got there." He pointed to the chain, Amy grasping it in her hand.
"Er, thanks." Amy mumbled, letting go of it. Sonic tilted his head a little to the side in confusion.
"What's the matter Ames?" The cobalt male asked, walking next to her. He stopped, causing her to do the same. "You don't trust your big bro enough?"
Amy smiled at Sonic, before it faded away. "I trust you Sonic. It's just... It's something really stupid." She sighed, the blue male's eyebrows cocking in confusion.
"Go on. I'm listening," he grinned, nudging her with his elbow. The pink hedgehog sighed, but nodded her head.
"Ok. So like, about ten years ago, I had a best friend named Shadow." Amy started, and then paused to see his reaction. He simply nodded his head. "He was my best friend... He gave me this." She grabbed the chain and smiled at it. "So that I wouldn't forget him, because he was leaving with his parents. We kept contact for the first two years... And I haven't heard from him since then."
"Oh, uh, well... Don't worry Ames! You'll see him one day!" Sonic said cheerfully, attempting to make her feel better. Amy smiled, playing with the silver chain.
"I hope so Sonic..." She trailed off with a distant look on her face, and whispered the last part softly. "I hope so..."
I am really sorry for the wait and the boring chapter. *Sigh* It will get better, I promise! Oh and can you guys help me out with something? I am really stuck in this story; I don't know how to bring Shadow in Amy's life again. Please review and tell me your ideas. Thanks! :)
