Free: Oh, god I'm so sorry. This is late by like a year, and I really don't have a good reason to give. Well besides not having Microsoft Word (luckily I found Google Docs, or would have had to write everything by hand), or having essentially every character that appears in this chapter decided that they don't want to be written. Originally this chapter was just supposed to be Kawahira going over history with Yuri, but then Kawahira is like 'No, I don't want to'... and then… No, I'm just going to stop there.

Point is, I finally finished this chapter. Not exactly happy with it, but finished nonetheless.

Since it's been so long, let's have a recap- Aria finds bug in her room and tells Yuri to kill it. Yuri smashes it, but they realise that bug isn't an ordinary bug. The now gigantic bug sends the two off the the world of KHR…. Wait, didn't I write a summary of events down in the last chapter? Why do I have to go through it all again? Just go read that!

….

Huh? What? What do you mean I never posted that summary! Hey wait a minute here! *storms off agirly* Allison you explain.

Alli: So demanding aren't you? Anyways, for all those who don't know I'm Allison, but most people just call me Alli. I appeared in the omake in the last chapter and even have my own POV this chapter. I'm not a major character yet, but since I'm the author's favorite, expect to see more of me and less of the sister's in the future.

Aria: Hey, What does that mean?

Yuri: Ignore her, she's just delusional.

Alli: And what is that suppose to mean?

Yuri: Didn't the author tell you to do a recap? And here you are doing a introduction, if the fans wanted that they would just read your actual POV.

Free: Hey, I'm back… What's with all this tension in the air?

Yuri & Alli: Nothing~

Free: For some reason, I don't believe that… Anyways, on with the show- Er, fanfic!

Reasons Why You Shouldn't… … Try to Run

Yuri leaned back in her chair. "So that centipede, was he really a god?" She asked, figuring that was the best place to start. "Compared to humans, he is. He is a being who shed his soul from his body, transcending from the physical plane." Kawahira set his cup of tea on the coffee table.

His white shaggy hair, overshadowed his eyes as he leaned forward. "You mean like an Ancient, from Stargate?" Yuri asked, her head tilting. "I take it, that this 'Stargate' is a reference from your world. But I suppose, that is correct," He chuckled.

Yuri frowned inwardly at him, but said nothing. She supposed that if something that had ascended to another plane could be like a god. And if he was anything like the Ancients from Stargate, they could take corporeal form.

It also made sense as to how he could send Yuri and her sister to another universe and how Yuri was shrunken to her current state. But there was still unanswered questions. Why take the form of a centipede, when he could have been literally anything? Why was he even on Aria's wall to begin with?

As far as Yuri knew there was nothing special about either of them. Their dad was an ex-agent who worked with the government, and their mom had a simple job. Aria was nothing special, she was just like any other teenage girl that Yuri knew. Yuri knew that her own past could be questionable, but she couldn't see the connection between the life she had before and the centipede.

Besides if she was the reason, then why was the centipede in Aria's room and not watching her? It just didn't make any sense. At least not any that Yuri could see.

"If he really was something like that, then why was he spying on my sister to begin with?" Yuri glanced at the white haired male who sat across from her. Kawahira laughed, the sound grated on Yuri's ears, mocking her.

"Everyone gets bored, perhaps that guy just wanted to be entertained or maybe he just gets off on watching young girls change." Kawahira poured a cup of tea for himself .

"So you're saying that a strong powerful being, capable of bending the very fabric of reality, is a pervert?" Yuri deadpanned.

Kawahira nodded happily, humming a small tune. It was the type of tune that a happy child might sing, a tune that was familiar to Yuri, but she couldn't place where she had heard that happy childish tune before.

"I didn't think that you would know something like that Kawahira-san. It sounds really childish, don't you know?" Yuri mocked the man in front of her. "It sounds like something that Byakuran would make his entire family memorize."

"You do realize that it would be simple for me erase you, I wouldn't have to put so much as a thought into it. Are you sure that you wish to taunt me, even knowing that?" Kawahira asked her kindly. Though he said that words kindly Yuri did not miss the death threat or the killer intent he had aimed at her.

It was impossible to miss the shiver that ran down Yuri's spine. She was able to mock the man, and have a somewhat calm conversation with him. But she was and probably always would be terrified of the man in front of her.

He was the type of person who had lived for centuries, watching, as all of his comrades died one by one, powerless to save them. Yuri was well aware of what type of man he was. He was someone who lost everything important to him, the only thing that kept him going was the fact that he could preserve the balance of the world.

The Tri-Ni-Set.

Kawahira, known by the world as The Man With The Iron Hat, and by few others as Checker Face. Was a man who only existed to preserve the Tri-Ni-Set. To this man, nothing else mattered, as long as the balance was ensured.

He didn't truly care what the cost would be, as long as the order was maintained. That was the man that was currently sitting in front of Yuri. She knew exactly what he was, she knew his nature.

It isn't that surprising, Kawahira was one of Yuri's favorite characters in the anime show KHR. She loved his complexity, his dedication to his job. She could see the real person behind the character, even when he had made his first appearance.

Yuri had no illusions on what type of person Kawahira was, she knew that he was perfectly fine with killing her, and he wouldn't think twice of it. That was why Yuri was so hesitant on even coming to him, but the girl needed answers. And he was the only person she knew of who could answer her questions.

That was why she took the risk, she knew that the difference between her and Kawahira. If it came down to a fight there was no way that she could win, she wouldn't even be able to escape. After all Kawahira was someone who could take on the super overpowered Dying Will Tsuna, and not flinch. He had ten times the amount of Dying Will Flames than even the strongest human.

Yuri knew this, she knew, yet she was still sitting there, risking her life in order to get answers. She knew Kawahira, his motives, his reasoning. Yuri was betting her chance of survival on her knowledge of his character to get the information from him, and leave alive.

"You're not the type of person who would kill someone over something as trivial as that," Yuri spoke with confidence. She was right, Kawahira was like the old sage character from video games.

Sometimes he would offer advice, if only for his own benefit in the end, only intervened if something really bad was about to happen. He wouldn't let his emotions get the best of him, and kill someone just for mocking him.

To put it simply Yuri fully believed with all of her heart that, that was the type of man that Kawahira was. She was betting everything on that. On whether she'll die without answers, or live with answers. Everything came down to the type of person Kawahira was, and if Yuri was right….

Or wrong.

"You really are an interesting one!" Kawahira burst into laughter with no warning, "I can see why that person is so interested in you." His eyes gleamed over as he looked over Yuri, who returned his look coolly.

"That person? Has someone asked you about me?" Yuri asked curiously. She didn't know of anyone who knew that Kawahira was Checker Face that would take an interest in her. Perhaps if it was after the end of the series, but it was still the Daily Lives Arc. Or maybe his shop ran a lot like Yuno's from xxxHolic and Tsubasa, and he had other, similar beings asking for favors and things.

"It doesn't really matter. Right now I would be more concerned about that group. Vongola and Vendicare too, I suppose. Your appearance hasn't been something that has gone unnoticed." He put his tea cup down gently, the glare from his glasses hiding his eyes.

Not that, that was strange coming from someone who wore glasses. In fact it was a regular thing, Yuri thought, people who usually wear glasses usually end up covering their eyes. That's why the stereotypical things people thought about others when they saw someone wearing glasses, was that they were either mysterious or lame.

The main difference between the two is on the outward appearance. Hair, clothes, posture, skin, odor, are some other examples of this. Yuri wanted to sigh. Every living person judges others based on these, it's something wired into the brains of humans, though Yuri didn't know the reason she could guess.

It was a bad thing, technically, judging others based on their appearance. Tsuna was called Dame-Tsuna and had no friends because of it. But Yuri knew that reality wasn't so black and white. She had heard stories, back in her own world, of victims being able to escape murders and rapists because they felt that their appearance was off.

As sad is it may be, the same ability that led to Tsuna being ostracized from his classmates, also has the potential to save lives. It isn't right, morally at least, But Yuri thought, that doesn't make it a bad quality.

'What am I thinking about at time like this?" Yuri shook her head, she needed to concentrate on Kawahira, to get as many answers as she could.

"By that group, I assume that you're talking about the people that Shrimp had infiltrated?" Yuri asked him. Her head tilted slightly so that she could make eye contact, which even then the glare of his glass blocked what view Yuri had of Kawahira.

"Yep, normally they don't get involved with the things that happen in the underworld, so the mafia families can just ignore them, but lately it seems like they're building an army of some kind. It has a lot of people on edge, if you know what I mean."

"So, they're the reason why Nono sent Reborn to Tsuna when he was still in middle school? I always thought that it was a little strange, even if Nono is an old man, he didn't seem like the type of person who would purposely force a kid to get involved with the mafia at such a young age. Especially since Tsuna was able to live a peaceful life until this point."

"Oh? Your talking as if you don't know who they are?" Kawahira smiled, "I thought you knew all of the major players, Yuri-chan."

"It can't be helped, the information I was given was mostly from Tsuna's- the Vongola Decimo's- point of view, with a few acceptations here and there. And he only knows things second-handedly in most cases. Plus my knowledge only goes to the information he has from now, till about a year from now. I can't be sure on the exact dates…"

"I see, then I assume that you wish for me tell you about them?" Kawahira leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. It was a very relaxed position, Yuri thought, or at least Kawahira made it seem that way.

"It doesn't look like Fon-san or Reborn-san plan on telling me. I don't even know if Hibari-nii knows about it." Yuri leaned back, "Besides I already know a lot as it stands. Things about the Vongola, Arcobaleno, and Millefiore if you want to count them. I don't think that learning something about a secret organization is going to help me any. If anything it's going to make my position worse."

"But you still want to know. Don't you?" Kawahira smiled down at her. It was a knowing smile, one that made Yuri think that he knew every possible thing about her. Even if she was aware of how impossible that was.

"It's as they say: Curiosity killed the cat… But satisfaction brought it back." It was a saying that meant that someone's curiosity could get them killed. Later the last part was added, as if to say, even if you die, at least you die satisfied. That was Yuri's interoperation of the saying, at the least.

"Very well, then. Allow me to start at the beginning." Kawahira said in a grand voice, in Yuri's head she pictured him going into teacher mode. Complete with an imaginary chalkboard in the background, chalk, and pointer stick.

"Hai, hai, Kawahira-sensei." Yuri nodded without any enthusiasm, "To tell you the truth, I don't know anything about the history of this world. Or if it's any different from mine. Unless that history pertains to the Vongola, though I also know the clip notes version of the Arcobaleno history."

"That doesn't help, unless I know the history from your world." Kawahira said in his ever present cheerful voice. Not once throughout the entire conversation has he ever let his voice drop, Yuri realized, ever since she first opened the door he only talked using a cheery voice, and not a serious voice, despite the topic of their conversation up till this point.

'He truly is a terrifying man,' Yuri thought to herself. Even when he was letting out clear murderous intent, his voice never wavered. It was just more proof on the gap that existed between him and any normal person. Even someone extraordinary would have difficulty beating him.

"Fine," Yuri sighed, "I'll explain my original history to you, at least as much as I remember. I don't think going over ancient history will have any importance, that's way too far back. And the Middle Ages are a really fuzzy time period, just plagues and all of that. So I'll start with the American Revolution… You know what that is right?"

"When the British Colonies rebelled against their home country of Great Britain, because the taxes after the war over the country now known as Canada were to much for them. Yes, I'm aware of the events that took place."

"Good, that seems like the best place to start." Yuri nodded. "I don't remember the exact dates, but as for a timeline it went something like this…."

Aria dodged as a pair of tonfas were shifted into her direction. She barely had enough time to aim a punch at her attacker before he went for another swing. Even then her attacker easily sidestepped her as he brought one of his tonfas to the back of her head and the other down on her outstretched arm.

It took less than thirty seconds for her to retract her arm, cover her head, and jump away from her attacker. By that point she was still seeing doubles.

'Crap…. If this goes on, I really will lose!'

"Are you done already, Herbivore?" Her attacker asked her. Aria knew her attacker personally, and if she didn't hate his guts, she would say that he had a really good voice. A smooth voice that was soft but had a very dangerous tone to it. The same could be said about his body. Soft black hair, pale perfect skin, defined features, piercing silver eyes, and solid swift movement. If Aria could think clearly when it came to this boy, she would say that he was hot.

But his personality was rotten to the core. He would beat someone to death if they broke one of his stupid rules. He showed no interest in anything besides fighting. In fact, one could argue, that he enjoyed beating the crap out of people. The only people that Aria had ever see him on somewhat friendly terms with, were Fon, the weird guy who was always eating grass, and Yuri.

When she first learned of how close her sister and the delinquent were, she for lack of a better term, freaked out. Yuri was the laziest person that Aria knew, and the older sibling didn't doubt that her sister would give anything if she could get through life without doing anything. And Aria would bet her life that this boy would actually do everything for Yuri, if she asked him to, because he thought she was just a helpless child.

She even had to ask herself- and several others- if they knew that Yuri was really a sixteen year old girl, not the five year old that she looked like. As it turns out, the only one who was remotely suspicious of her sister was Tsuna. Reborn already knew her true age, and thought it was interesting how she acted like her outward age, not like her real age.

Aria shook her head at the thought, it's true that her sister was childish and lazy, but she was still a sixteen-year-old girl. The others should quickly realize that she wasn't as she appeared to be, if only for Yuri's sake.

The older teen knew her sister, better than anyone she would say, she knew that if Yuri was going to be contentiously treated like a five year-old child, Yuri would regress back into a child mentally. It would be bad, Aria thought, if Yuri went back to being how she was when she was younger.

Aria could still remember what Yuri was like back then, the stare that observed everything without any emotion. Like she was trapped in the past, unable to escape. Aria still didn't know what had happened to make Yuri become a member of her household, but she knew that it wasn't anything good.

Despite that there was no blood connection between them, Aria still saw Yuri as her precious little sister. She wouldn't allow her to get hurt, no, it was that she couldn't let her get hurt. Aria's pride as an older sister, among other things, wouldn't allow it! She could not allow Yuri to fall back into her old habits.

That was the main reason why Aria didn't trust Yuri around him. She was afraid, afraid that Yuri would become close to him. Afraid that this boy would betray Yuri. Afraid that Yuri would fall back onto her old habits. That wasn't something that Aria could allow to happen, she wouldn't be able to stand seeing her sister like that again.

A strike aimed at her cheek brought Aria out of her inner thoughts. "Pay attention, Herbivore." Her attacker demanded. She hissed as she glare at him, her anger toward the middle school boy rising. Kyoya Hibari, or Hibari Kyoya as the Japanese said it, was the name of her attacker and one of few people who Aria completely despised. Not only for his attitude and the careless way he treated others, but because he was one of the few people who would be able to push Yuri back into her depressed state.

The fact the Hibari had shown her up had nothing to do with it. In fact if it wasn't for his attitude towards others, she would respect him. A part of her did respect him, but that small part was hidden beneath her hate and loathing of the boy.

"I could same the same to you," Aria growled at him, despite knowing that his mind was on this fight. With new fervor the ginger flung herself at Hibari, ignoring the pain in her muscles. She just couldn't bring herself to be anything but distrustful and hateful towards him.

The two of them were like oil and fire, no that isn't right, they are fire and ice. Aria is the fire that burns so passionately and Hibari just stopped all of her efforts like a frozen ice. "Fire will melt the ice eventually," Aria said with determination. Hibari just stared at her, before smirking.

"Melted ice is the water which when extinguish the fire." He said with complete confidence, "Now come Herbivore, we're not done yet."

… Sixteen years ago…. Italy…

Allison Burnaby was the younger of two children born of a woman who Allison never learned the name of. She should know the name of the person who gave birth to her, she was four years old and perfectly coherent and spent everyday of this life with the woman. This life wasn't Allison's only life, she lived once before under a different name and in a different country. Mother would always be the person confronted her after a painful experience and helped her find strength and courage, not the prostitute who was slowly losing her mind and was unable to take care of her two growing children.

That's fine with Allison though, she has no problems with taking care of herself, she was an adult before she ended up in a child's body and was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Her brother though, well he certainly wasn't helpless. He managed before Allison was born and since he was the older sibling, he hardly ever accepted her help.

That was just fine with Allison, she knew who her older brother would grow up to be. She had seen it told out as a tale a lifetime ago, and she wanted nothing to do with Mafia or wars or assassins or anything like that. She would study hard, get a scholarship and move to somewhere peaceful like England or Canada. A place far away from any conflict and any involvement.

For that far off dream to become true, it would be better off if her older brother didn't have a lingering connection to the sister he would leave behind. Less chance that he would pull her into the world of mafia and flames.

"I wonder what my flame type is?" Allison mused while cooking dinner for her and her two house mates- not family, because she left them behind when she died and was reborn. She could never think of the prostitute as her mother, though she can't help but think of her 'older brother' as a younger brother. Allison didn't have any siblings in her fist life, it always just her and her mom. Her father was a workaholic and was hardly ever home.

"What flame?" Her older brother asked, and Allison realised that he had overheard her mumblings. He was to curious for his own good, Allison knew, though it was still strange to see him behaving so innocently when she knew he would grow up to be a spoiled jerk.

"Nothing, just mumbling to myself." She answered him, when the woman she wouldn't call mother entered the room. Allison hoped that he would drop the topic, not wanting the woman to overhear them, but she knew him better than that.

"I see…" the boy seemed unsure of himself for a moment. It nearly broke Allison's heart to see him so sad, despite telling herself she couldn't get close if she wanted to stay safe and out of the plot. Still an even larger part of her was telling herself that she couldn't let that woman overhear this conversation. "I had just thought that you had flames too is all."

Allison's body froze in motion at the sentence. 'He didn't just...' Before she could say anything to change the topic, that woman butted in. "What is this about flames?" that woman echoed, her eyes glued on the boy's little figure. Allison felt her body grew cold and hard, she knew what was coming next.

"Ah, Mother! I didn't know that you were there? Shouldn't you still be in bed?" Her brother asked the woman worriedly. 'No! Don't treat her like that! She doesn't deserve the title of mother!' Allison yelled mentally. She wanted to stop this conversation, distract it somehow, but her body was frozen solid and she was helpless.

"Don't change the subject Young Man! Now what is this I hear about flames?" the woman used her most demanding voice. Allison thought of it as a fake mother's voice, and always inwardly snorted whenever she used it. This time she was unable to snort at the idea of that woman appearing motherly.

"Well, I have them, you see. I know it's crazy, but whenever I get really determined about something I can call out these orange flames…" Her brother spoke slowly. With every word he spoke, the woman took a step closer, Allison didn't have to see her face to know what expression she had. Form the pit of her stomach, the girl felt so disgusted, she couldn't take this any longer.

With a quick "I'm going for a walk," She was out the door and down the street. Ignoring her brother's cries about dinner and the rain, she ran down the street, as fast as she could. Anything to get away from the revolting scene taking place in that kitchen. The woman was already prepared to give her woman to the mafia, to hand her own son over to a complete stranger. Allison couldn't take it anymore.

She didn't care where she went, as long as she was far away from that place. The rain didn't matter. The wind didn't matter. The cold didn't matter. Nothing mattered except for escape. Escape from the future that she knew. Escape from what will be, because she was too much of a coward to try and change anything. Escape from the future that was practically doomed as far as Allison knew, because this wasn't just a fantasy story anymore. This was her reality.

"I really should know better." Her voice cracked as a silent sob ran through her body. It was impossible to run from reality without ending up insane. She knew that better than anyone, so why was she running? Into a middle of a storm in Italy, no less! "I guess I really am insane, after all!" She let out a bitter laugh.

"Sorry Xanxus, it looks like you got a shitty sister, along with the horrible mother." Out of the corner of her eye, Allison saw a shadow of movement out of the corner of her eye and then… darkness.

That day Ms. Burnaby lost her only two children and the last remnants of her sanity. The one who trusted her and cared for her and the one who was never hers. The boy was given to the Vongola because of his flames and her delusions. The girl was chased away by her delusions and stolen by scientists.

In the present, the two girls looking for answers and strength have no idea of how this day will affect them. Isn't that what makes life so interesting, though? Even when you know more than you should, you don't know enough. Even when you have a strength that few possess, you aren't strong enough.
