Haunting Melodies

Chapter 14 - Glittering Moonlight

Bare feet touched the water, it ran up to her ankles as the waves rolled in and out along the sandy beach, crimson eyes stared into the ocean, the voice was back, urging her to sing, and she was wearing her priestess clothes of the Tidal Knights. "They say I am their Tidal Priestess because I can heal with water." Zephyr was laying down on the sand just a few feet behind her and so was Astrea. Elira smiled as the voice soothed her, "I understand that there is much to learn about myself and this world but Iggarak is marching towards Metallicana, I wish there was more for me to do to help them." Once more that voice soothed her, told her that everything will occur when it is time. She nodded, she could feel Rosali comforting her as well, she smiled while placing her hands over her heart and closing her eyes, "Thank you my friends. You are all so warm towards me and I'm grateful for it. I can only give you a song and dance in return but I suppose it's what you all like." The ocean laughed at her response as did Rosalia as she opened her eyes once more, "Alright, this one is going to be one of my most powerful songs because I've been crafting it for such a long time."

Elira closed her eyes, positioned herself, and before she began she heard footsteps; her irises looked to see her Tidal Knights. Richard grinned, "We are your personal guard, where ever you go, we go."

"Why?"

Redford replied, "We heard a rumor that you're going to be our new princess!"

She smiled while Jorvik added, "We couldn't be happier! Since you're going to be our new princess, you're not allowed to go anywhere without telling us." Sanshi agreed and she laughed with them, she apologized to all of them but Jorvik smiled, "It's alright Healer. We know that you're not used to it." She nodded her thanks and Kanshi approached on the sand, Redford and Sanshi both looked at the black wolf as he sat on his haunches watching Elira.

"Proceed mistress, the sea is getting rough."

"Of course Kanshi." The Tidal Knights stood by and watched as she took her position once more, her ankles were in the water as it lapped on the beach, she made herself as still as the surface of an undisturbed lake, and she didn't know that Lars had been strolling the beach as well. He stopped behind Zephyr, out of sight of the knights, but the Argonite knew he was there, and so he took a seat next to the dragon. Elira moved her body in time with a melody that only she could hear, it was an interesting dance as the water droplets that she flung up from her feet stayed in the air, and soon began to follow her rhythm of dancing. Strange words echoed from her lips, they traveled across the angry sea, and Kanshi had his ears up, listening to the song, and his eyes closed. The knights were shocked at the amount of energy she was exuding, the water drops turned into rivulets as it traveled around her body in ribbons, her pace never increased but it kept time with her words, and Lars clenched a hand over his chest.

Sanshi noticed the prince, he rushed to his side, trying to help him but Lars whispered, "It's not something you can help with Sanshi." At this he looked at Zephyr whose body was growing as he absorbed the power from Elira, he looked over at Astrea who was bobbing her head in time, even he could see that she was getting stronger, and then he looked back to his prince. "I'll be alright." He nodded but stayed by his side, his gaze returned to Elira, her exotic dance bringing up small rivers of water until there was a sphere of it all around her. When she finished, those water streams burst into a light mist, it floated across the water, dancing on its own rhythm only to be absorbed by something that the knights could only imagine.

They clapped, she smiled at them but her red eyes saw Lars, and she gasped; immediately she ran to him, Sanshi looked at her while she gave him a small smile. "You know that you shouldn't come out when I sing Prince Lars!"

He chuckled as the other knights approached, "You don't have to use formalities Elira."

"Still...you know it affects you as it affects Zephyr and Astrea."

"He is stubborn mistress," replied the black wolf. Elira laughed while Lars smirked, "He wishes to hear you sing no matter what."

"Will this stop one day?" asked the prince.

Zephyr grinned, "It will only cease when two become one. When the blood of one is shared with another." Lars stared at Zephyr, when his green eyes looked at Elira, she only stared at them quizzically, and the knights laughed as Elira was naive in that area but she still smiled at them.

Sanshi asked, "But why does your song affect the prince?"

"I'll answer that," said Lars. "Not many people know but I have the blood of dragons running through my veins. When I bore the Dragon Knight to fight Dark Schneider, its blood entered my body, although it was meant to be used against Anthrax, it turned me into a baby dragon. Because of that transformation, my blood is dragon blood and I can wieldHeavy Metal becaue of it."

He nodded, "I understand." Lars nodded as well while he was finally able to adjust to the power that she exuded, Sanshi turned to her, "My lady." Elira looked at him, "You said that you crafted that song for a long time. What does that mean?"

"I've been waiting for the proper moment to sing it. When I sing, whatever energy I have gets expelled through song and dance, my dragons here absorb that extra energy and so does Lars. It makes them stronger by giving them more stamina and strength but with Zephyr and Astrea it makes them grow physically as well."

They all nodded but Lars asked, "Zephyr?" The Argonite looked at him, "If you share your blood with another dragon, would you stop physically growing too?" He nodded, "Astrea's right here. I'm sure Elira would like it if you would still fit inside the castle."

He huffed, "No."

Kanshi stated, "When he's older, he'll understand."

"Why does everyone keep saying that?"

The wolf grinned, "Perhaps in another year, you'll be older, and you'll have more wisdom than you do now."

"I'm older than you Kanshi!"

"By years yes, by wisdom no."

Elira looked at Lars, "I told you they fight like brothers. Speaking of brothers," she turned to the wolf. "Kanshi?"

"I understand mistress." He got up and trotted over to Redford and Sanshi, he sat, and looked up at them, "Without the use of a spell your brother and son cannot return to this plane of existence. It's not possible unless some great act of selflessness occurs. Your brother was mauled by a boar while trying to save a wolf pup, that wolf pup was myself." Both men were astonished, "He gave his life to save mine and the Great Wolf bestowed his name unto me and I was chosen to guard my mistress whom you know as Elira. Great Wolf chose me because of what your brother had done in the past just as mistress healed a brethren of my own without anything in return. Kindness and selflessness is rewarded by those that are unseen to humans."

Redford smiled, "I'm honored that the Great Wolf chose my son's name to place unto a wolf in the pack."

Kanshi nodded, "So now you know. If you wish it, I can be your friend but not a replacement for whom you lost, and I would like to meet your mother to tell her of her son's great deed."

Sanshi nodded, "We would be honored Great Canine."

"You may call me Kanshi, we are equals." The others were warm towards the wolf, he was even happy to let Sanshi ride him to show how strong he was, and this made Elira smile while she took a seat next to Lars on the beach. Zephyr had joined in on the fun as well as Astrea, although it was a mystery how she was able to carry Nymn around.

"They really like you Elira."

She nodded, "I see you finally told your father."

Lars was grinning, "Yes and he was more than ecstatic to hear your name. I wish you could have seen his face, he was scrutinizing me when I told him that I had someone chosen." Elira chuckled while watching the sea, "He hasn't met you yet but he knows that you'll be wonderful to the kingdom because all he ever hears is your name when the servants talk."

"They like me too."

"Everyone likes you."

"Except Sheila."

"She'll come around."

"I doubt that but I have my hopes."

"That's good. I heard the Far Village has built a hut for you and Zephyr."

She smiled, "Yes, Evelyn said that it was so that my little one and I could escape the castle once in a while for peace. You're more than welcome to it as well."

"That's kind of you and I'll take you up on that offer." Elira kept that smile on her face and Lars returned it as they gazed out across the sea, once more there was that motion in the water, as if something large and cylindrical broke the surface before splashing back down into the water. It caught everyone's attention, "What is that?"

"One of the Five Currents; Serentine, Ripper, Derunwot, Arkus, and Vox."

"Five Currents?" asked Griege.

Elira nodded, "Serentine controls the warm currents just off the shore, Ripper is all riptide, Derunwot are the undertows when the seas get rough, Vox are whirlpools in the deeper ocean, and Arkus is the arctic chill that you feel from the deep north and deep south."

"Which one is the most deadly?"

This time Zephyr replied, "Arkus. He has always been the most dangerous, able to freeze an entire kingdom in one breath."

"Sounds like Kall," replied Lars. The Argonite only nodded while they heard a squeak, they all turned to see Astrea, she had gotten up and trotted to Elira. The healer stood up, patted the Anemone's neck, and all of their attention was riveted onto the ocean. Instinctually, the mottled orange tail wrapped around Elira's waist while she lowered her head and hissed at the oncoming threat. "What kind of threat Astrea?" The dragon never let her eyes stray from the wave that was approaching them, Lars stood up, and drew his sword along with the knights but it was Kanshi he laid on his stomach.

"Your weapons will not harm what is coming." Zephyr stated while Kanshi nodded in agreement while they sheathed their weapons, Lars reluctantly put away Heavy Metal while that wave reached them, Elira looked up at it, and that wave of water crashed around them in a sphere, it was absorbed into smaller spheres that hung around them, she had cast a spell long before the tidal wave reached them. Standing behind that wave was a massive creature, it held no legs, and had the body of an eel. Frills were dotted with luminescent colors of blue and purple, long thin tendrils were scattered about the underbelly; glowing a luminescent pink. Those white eyes stared upon Elira, fins were splayed out in an aggressive manner while Astrea hissed at the creature, it opened its maw, long white teeth were displayed, and hissed at them but those spheres of water protected them. The amnesic patted the Anemone, the dragon released her, and she approached the massive creature; Elira put up her hand, and those feelers were lifted to touch her palm. The creature hissed, snapping its moutch open and closed while it touched her hand then her face. Pink tendrils traveled down her neck to her bare chest then along her clothes, it hissed once more, and she smiled up at the creature. "My lady...be careful with it."

"Her."

"Hmm?"

"Her," replied Elira. She approached the eel-like creature, the nose was dipped down to her as the spheres of water surrounded the slithering beast from the deep. "She hails from Lumus' trench." Her knights were in awe of her fearlessness towards the animal, Elira gently rubbed her palm on the nose of the strange creature; the eel was as long as Metallicana's lands, her skin shimmered silver, "Come. Let's return you to the deep." The creature's glowing tendrils released her as Elira used those collected spheres of water to push her back into the ocean gently. "Be careful next time Vi." Her tendrils gave a subtle glow in response as she was nudged back into the water by the spheres, Elira waved to her as she descended into the deep once more, and when she turnd around; the knights were staring at her. She smiled, "Vi is a Leviathan from Lumus' trench. How she got up here is beyond me." Crimson eyes glanced over her shoulder to stare at the last wake that Vi had caused and she wondered why she had even come to the surface. Elira turned her attention towards the castle, her eyes glowed a bright gold briefly, everyone present noticed this, and were silent.

Pounding feet were heard and it wasn't long before the Trench Guardian skidded to a halt in front of Elira, "Mistress."

"Vi was here."

He blinked a few times, stood to his full height, and stared off into the ocean, "How..did you get her back in the ocean?"

"Kindness."

A smile graced his lips, "Thank you mistress. I do appreciate the help as she can be quite aggressive."

"So can Astrea." He chuckled, "I was curious Lumus. Why did she come here? It's dangerous for her because of her size."

"Vi only appears in the most extreme circumstances to warn..." He stopped on his words as he knew that he couldn't say it without damaging her belief that she was the Undine of the Sea, the Tidal Princess. Lumus sighed, "She appears to those from the sea when danger is coming, danger that could harm the ocean and those residing in it."

"I see, so she came to warn Zephyr and Astrea as they are of the sea." Lumus nodded while she continued, "It must be Iggarak but what does that kingdom know that only Vi can sense?"

It was then that Nymn spoke up, "Iggarak has a navy." The others looked at him and Lars stated that he didn't know about it. "They keep it a secret." When the prince asked how he knew, he responded, "I was once the Royal Navy commander." Everyone was in shock except for Elira, she only nodded to him and said that he was now part of Metallicana and her special Tidal Knight. He smiled, "I would not have it any other way Healer."

"I'm glad because neither would I." Nymn smiled at her, he embraced her gently, and she returned it, while she was handed over to Lumus. The guardian placed her on his shoulder and she stared out into the ocean, "They won't win this war. We'll all make sure of that."

Everyone agreed, they departed the beach but Elira asked to stay, she looked out across the sea, and the guardian had to ask. "Did she feel you?" The healer nodded, "Did she hiss at you first?"

"She hissed at me then feeled me then hissed while feeling me before allowing me to help her into the ocean."

"That's just like Vi, to hiss at someone before determining their threat level."

She chuckled, "I like her. She's very wary and cautious." He nodded, "I think we can head back now to help plan."

"Of course my lady." The pair trudged back to the castle ground, Elira took one last furtive glance at the ocean's surface, and she knew that she saw the glowing pink of a tail fin disappear underneath that calm surface. She wore a smile as Lumus took her through the bustling market, the news of Iggarak was still unknown to the people, and she felt that it was unfair. A war was going to break out and no one knew about it, so she decided to inform everyone of importance so that they could tell their villages to ready themselves. Lumus smiled warmly at her as she warned the people, it was her large heart that made him serve her, her willingness to help those of the land and sea even though she still didn't remember who she truly was. In time she will know and when that time comes the Five Currents will be in harmony once more.

Days passed, the news of Iggarak had spread like wildfire but there was no paranoia, there were no hoards of villagers wanting to take refuge in the castle walls, and Lars had a feeling that it had to do with Elira. She was always smiling to the servants, telling them little secrets here and there, and he noticed that she had been using Lumus quite a bit; she had also been disappearing with Zephyr as well and it made him suspicious of what she was doing secretly. Lars caught her in the hall, he placed a hand over her mouth as he tucked her into an alcove, when they were alone, he removed his hand. There was a smile on his face as he leaned in and asked, "I haven't seen much of you lately. What's going on?"

She smiled, "I've been using Lumus' energy to craft spells of protection for the villages."

"So that's what you've been doing."

"Yes, I craft a protection spell with Lumus' energy into large spheres of jasper found on the ocean floor that Astrea brings me. When that's done it allows the village to be protected as long as its placed in the center of the village where I crafted the spell. This way they're protected from the oncoming march of soldiers."

"Their crops?"

"It's included in the space."

"How?"

"Crafting a spell is very tiresome and a grueling ordeal because this would only be my second time but Lumus' energy is infinite so I'm able to craft a very strong spell to protect everything in the village, including crops."

"What happens when the soldiers attack?"

Elira smirked, "That's when they awaken." Lars raised a single eyebrow at her while she still smirked, "I crafted a spell of protection into a jaspe crystal from Lumus' trench. That jaspe crystal will awaken to release a Mizu."

"Mizu?"

"Lumus has two types of children, Kraken and Mizus. Mizus are more suited to protecting villages and fighting groups of soldiers. They're essentially a glowing winged serpent with sharp fins all over their bodies for maneuverability and luminescence for sight. On the surface, they're quite agile and very protective of what they're told to do."

"So they're tough."

"The toughest of Lumus' children. No weapon made by human hands can spear the flesh of a Mizu and only fire magic can stop them but that's assuming it's stronger than Lumus' energy."

Lars smiled, "I'm glad that you're here Elira. The people are thankful they have you on their side and you saw fit to warn them ahead of time so that they woudn't panic." Elira smiled and said that she only wanted to help, "I know and we don't have a lot of time so this will need to be quick." She tilted her head in curiosity while he leaned in to give her a kiss. She returned it bashfully, they parted, and he smiled at her, "One day you won't be so shy?"

"Perhaps." He chuckled while telling her to be safe, he was about to go but she tugged on his arm, when he looked at her, she brought up his hand. It was clad in a glove that had the fingers cut off, she smiled, bit his thumb, he winced as she bit her own thumb then placed it against his, and watched as her eyes glowed blue before returning to their crimson color. He stared in awe as ancient symbols wove their way around his hand and up his arm, planting themselves on his skin. "It will protect you." Lars thanked her, kissed her once more, and dashed off to prepare the knights, she smiled at him, leaned against the stone wall, and sighed. "I've used a lot of energy..." Elira took in a deep breath, put on a smile, and began to help out with the rest of the preparations, all the while wearing the necklace that Lars had given her and the robes that Geo appointed her.

Night fell upon Metallicana, she was standing on the top of the stone wall, Astrea was next to her, and they both gazed upon the ocean. The moonlight glittered off the moving surface, both of their attention was riveted onto that surface because they knew the ships were coming from Iggarak. Soldiers patrolled the other areas but they had the advantage as they could see shapes on the surface that normal soldiers couldn't see and it was at this point that Elira glared at the water. Her eyes narrowed as she could see dark shapes appeare and she stated, "Astrea."

The Anemone nodded, sprouted her wings, and flew off to warn the soldier in charge of sounding the horn while she stayed there to watch. Her staff was slung across her body, she wore the robes of her Tidal Priestess position, and every time she saw a new ship surface on the ocean, her eyes became more angry. "They think they can ambush us at night. Not on our watch." Her eyes glowed golden, immediately Lumus appeared next to her, "How many ships?"

His eyes scanned the surface quickly, "About sixty or so."

"I see. We're going to need something more hefty than just your children Lumus."

"What do you have in mind my lady?"

"What about Arkus? He could ice them all and make it that much easier to fight."

"He is a wild card. Sometimes he listens and sometimes he doesn't, it's really up to his mood, and many times he won't even come if you summon him."

"What if I Call him?"

"He has the ability to ignore callings."

"Arkus must be very powerful indeed." Lumus nodded, "Well, I have others who can help. Rosalia is keeping watch over the surface for me so that we have some eyes over there. I sent Astrea to sound the alarm and I want you to rally the knights with Lars."

"Of course my lady but what about you?"

"I'm fine here."

"It's not safe."

"I know but we need eyes out here and I'm the only one that can contact you."

Lumus smiled, "I understand my lady. Be safe."

"You too Lumus." He nodded as he dashed off to get the knights and the prince together, her eyes were always focused on those bobbing shapes, and she didn't realize that her feet were bringing her body closer towards the part of the castle that connected with the ocean far below. "Kall said that I was swimming under a ship...yes, I remember a ship." Elira focused her thoughts on those nightmarish memories of strange dead men in the ocean. "The ocean? I was swimming in the ocean and I came upon a ship, like those out there." Her memories began to flash in her mind, "I remember cannon fire, I remember seeing a mast fall, but my legs...something about my lower half isn't right. It's not normal...what is it?" She was engrossed in her memories that the cannon fire startled her, her eyes snapped onto the ships that had fired, the canonball was heading straight for her area. So she ran across the edge of the wall to another part and another canonball was fired as well. "Canon fire?" Elira abruptly stopped as she remembered the canon fire from her memories, "Yes, one ship was firing on another ship, and the mast broke. It fell and hit me that's why I can't remember but...my legs..." Once more she was engrossed in her memories until she felt the stone slip away from her feet. Elira didn't realize that she had cast a spell, a large water tendril appeared from the ocean, grabbed her, and tugged her into its caressing depths.

While the soldiers fought on land and the dragons the sea with Lumus, Elira was being pulled away from the carnage by this mysterious water tendril. Her eyes were closed, there was a luminescent glow all around her as she was cradled by a single soft gelatinous coil. Glowing red eyes studied her as those large fins cradled her against the squishy coil of the tail, thin tentacles emerged from the skull, and when her eyes fluttered open, the creature made sure to produce an air bubble. It floated over her head, she blinked a few times, stared at the strange sea creature, and smiled warmly.

It returned the smile, "You are safe Ti-dal."

"Ti-dal?"

The voice was clearly male as he nodded, "Where the sun cannot reach, we dwell. Those that dwell in the darkest depths call you Ti-dal as most do not have the tongue to speak such as Vi." Elira nodded and asked how she became underwater, "You fell from the stone wall, I brought you below as it is safest."

"They need my help."

"Only when you awaken can you truly help them Ti-dal. Now sleep." Elira drifted off as he cradled her on the ocean floor, his glowing red eyes glared up at the ships. "She needed more time before you attacked, jumping ahead all the time, thinking you can take Ti-dal from us. Ignorant land-dwellers who cross the sea and think they are better than those in it." While she drifted in her mind, this gelatinous creature made sure to keep her safe from the falling debris, he watched as many sea creatures came to her aid as she was unconscious, even Serentine had come to help destroy the fleet. "Sixty ships not true. Sixty ships for Iggarak but allies come too." Those eyes turned onto Elira, "Please hurry Ti-dal, Metallicana is in need of your great strength. Only when you know who you are can you control the Five."

Hours had passed, the war was still waging on, and dawn was approaching, the creature sighed, removed the air bubble, and Elira's eyes snapped open. The creature allowd her to float there, struggling to breathe underwater, until the light in her eyes was fading and her eyes were closing. "I am sorry Ti-dal." Yet those eyes snapped open, they were glowing just as fierce as his and flecks of gold and blue were inside those red irises, immediately a glow encompassed her lower half, her legs fused together while they became covered with red scales that faded to purple, and a tail fin with a ring in each tip. Coral spikes jutted from her skull, matching fins appeared on her forearms, and her blue pearl drop earrings appeared. Red irises glowed bright as the blue and gold faded away to attach to her earrings and rings respectively. "You remembered!"

She looked over at him, swam up to him, and kissed his squishy head, "I have with many thanks to you Ura. Now I can truly help my home on the land. I may not have remembered who I am but I have remembered what I am."

"What are you Ti-dal?"

A smile graced her lips, Ura rubbed his thumb across her lips, a crimson ink lay in its wake, "I am of the ocean, one of the few Undines left."

"It is close enough, with this new knowledge you will remember who you are in time."

"Yes, thank you Ura. I owe you a great debt."

"No debt is necessary, you have helped me in the past." Elira kissed his head once more, "Now go and show Iggarak's allies that they are unworthy."

"I shall and I shall visit you as well my friend." Ura's tentacles moved her sleeve up and latched onto her upper arm, they burned ancient symbols along her arm. He smiled at her while she grinned, "You are my authorized informant of the sea." He nodded and swam with her towards the surface, her dress attached to her body but she didn't mind, it weighed nothing compared to the strength in her tailfin. She broke the surface with Ura, she glared at the ships, "I will not allow them to harm my home any longer." He nodded as he told her that he was not suited for war and she nodded with a warm smile, "Thank you Ura." The jellyfish nodded and disappeared into the depths while she glared at them, with her newfound memories, she could feel the currents of the ocean, she could feel the waves, and Elira knew exactly how to get rid of the other ships.

She moved her powerful tailfin to direct her course towards the shore, to the open wall that they had blasted through, the debris was still falling but she was able to dodge it all with amazing agility and speed. Once there, she pulled herself onto a rock, and allowed her mind to mingle with the ocean; she called upon Serentine, the warm current serpent slammed through many ships at once, the closest ones, she glared at, and concentrate on another summoning. In the air she could see Astrea fighting as well as Zephyr and another strange ice dragon. "Kall...my memories must have helped Zephyr recover so that he can fly." A smirk appeared on her lips, she turned her glowing eyes towards the ships that were getting ready to board the beach, she bided her time, until the soldiers appeared. They paused to gaze up at her sitting on the rock, they spotted her tailfin, and immediately stated that she was a mermaid and was worth a lot to their king.

"I am no mermaid! How disrespectful!" They charged her and a massive tail crushed them, she grinned at the fins that held impaled soldiers, the others ran out but paused, they frightened faces looked upon the creature that the massive tail belonged too. They screamed in terror as the glistening eye glared at them, nostrils allowed bubbles to float up, and there was a light coming from inside the throat of the scaley creature. The giant serpent spit the strange glowing liquid onto the ships, it melted the wood, then burst into flame, he opened his mouth, and roared at them. Elira smiled up at the creature as he dove head first into the ships that were docked on the beach, they were shoved splintered back into the ocean to sink; although Ura and his friends were cleaning up the ocean floor. The serpent dove into the water, she simply sat there on the rock, her tailfin sitting in the water that crashed around her, a smile on her face, and watched as the ships began to retreat, she called off the war on the ocean, the serpent snaked his way towards her, he nuzzled her face gently since he was so massive, "Thank you Menma."

A guttural growl emitted from the serpent, she smiled, and rubbed her hand across the bottom of his scaley chin, "You are so brave and strong Menma!" Those large eyes closed happily at the praise, "I am in your debt my friend." Orange eyes only looked at her while he opened his mouth, his tongue grazed her other upper arm underneath the sleeve, she looked as the symbols burned onto her skin, and she smiled, "Thank you Menma. This is just like Ura, a way to contact you without having to enter to ocean." He nodded, nuzzled her once more, and disappeared into the ocean, the surface was calm as he disappeared, and she was left on the rock by herself. A glimmer of blue caught her eye, Zephyr landed on the beach, and trotted up to her, he paused, and stared at her fin. "Hello little one." He grinned and watched as a glow circled her, returning her to her human form, she watched as he swam to her, she mounted his back, and he flapped his massive wings to gain the lift he needed, and took her towards the castle. "The war is not over, it's just beginning, and not a word to the others." Zephyr only grinned and nodded while she kissed the back of his head, he shimmered in joy, which caught the attention of the soldiers on the ground.
