Hey guys. I know it's been a while... but hang in there okay? Good news!
THIS IS THE LAST CHAPTER. (Unless I decide to post an epilogue...)
Chapter 24:
Hitsugaya's POV:
"I'm glad you have all arrived on time Captains, is there anything you would like to inform the rest of us?" I addressed formally, my voice echoing through the cold, wooden room.
It was time for our monthly Captain's meeting. It got pushed back a little bit because of my absence and Rukia's... mission to exterminate 'hollows' in the Rugonkai area.
Soifon stepped out and spoke, "According to the Secret Mobile Corps (they're also called Covert Corps or Special Forces), there still seemed to be a rising number of Adjucjas Hollows residing in Karakura Town. I strongly advise to put a powerful Shinigami there for at least some time until the number starts to decrease. I have already sent Omaeda, my lieutenant, but he needs to return soon to fulfil his position and go on another mission. Perhaps there would be another captain willing to send a reliable subordinate."
There was a pregnant pause. Everyone seemed to comb back through their heads to see if any of their officers were good enough to patrol an entire town.
"I am more than happy to send my third seat, Kurosaki Ichigo to Karakura Town for sometime. He has experience in the World of the Living and has already achieved Bankai. That is, if he agrees to go." Everyone turned their heads towards Rukia, who stepped out, her eyes void of a single expression looking at me and her face as cold as ice-a mask she had decades perfecting.
Still, that gaze managed to make my heart flutter against my chest. Her eyes challenged me, daring me to try to object her decision. I felt a little bit relieved. Maybe it was because I no longer had any competition for her heart, although I knew her heart belonged to me. But no matter how deep our love ran, with Kurosaki being at her division as her third-seat still made me a tiny bit anxious.
"Y-Yes. Then it is decided. We will send Kurosaki Ichigo to the World of the Living and for those who wish to accompany him, please inform Soifon-taichou. Soifon, I put you in charge of this." I didn't even glance at her, but I knew she was giving me a death glare for not addressing her as 'taichou'. Geez what was wrong with that woman?
"Hai!" She said curtly.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Byakuya glance at his sister with a soft gaze. I tried to catch even a hing of emotion from him, but it went as fast as it came.
"Are there any more questions or other reports?" I asked. Some of the captains seemed to look back and forth between Rukia and I. I prayed that they wouldn't ask if-
"Ne, Toshiro-kun, how's your lovely relationship going with Rukia-chan? I'm surprised that Byakuya even allowed it. Usually he would oppose anyone who would dare come near his sister...So...Is Rukia-chan a good kisser? Tell us Toshiro-kun!" Leave it to Kyoraku to ask such a question.
That fool.
"My private life is not of any of your concern, Kyoraku." I deadpanned. Inside, however, a sly smile appeared when he asked if Rukia was a good kisser.
Of course she is, she always had been actually. Even if she wasn't at the beginning, she's got more that enough practice from me during our long make out sessions that sometimes went a little too far when-and I shamefully admit- I got carried away by my stupid hormones. Geez, I'm over a hundres years old and I still have these-
"Yah, Shiro-chan. Yer just a bit embarrassed 'cuz everyone in the Gotei 13 knows about yer relationship wit' Rukia-chan. So tell us! Is she-"
"Ichimaru-taichou, I strongly suggest you keep your mouth shut. Hitsugaya-taichou's and my private life does not concern anyone one bit. But why so curious? Did something happen during the past few weeks I was gone?" Rukia hissed with authority, exactly like a noble. The constant smile on Ichimaru's face faltered a bit, but wideened even more-if that was even possible.
But before he could say anthing further, I took advantage of the quiet moment and quickly ended the meeting. Kenpachi, Komamura, and Kurotsuchi were the only ones who left immediately, with Kurostuchi muttering things about fine experiment specimens under his breath. The rest took there oh-so-damn precious time to leave.
Heck, even Soifon and the Visoreds stayed behind. I sat on the soutaichou chair, pinching the bridge of my nose, praying that every one would just GO AWAY.
The Soul King seemed to have heard my desperate plea, and Rukia flashstepped out of the room. Out of instinct, I quickly followed, along with some whistles just before I left.
I found her near a breezy field. Her haori swayed back and forth, catching in the wind. I walked towards he and linked my arms around her thin waist and rested my head on her shoulder. Electric sparks tingled throughout my body and I smiled as she leaned into the warmth of my chest.
We never really needed a lot of words to explain how we felt for each other, because our actions spoke millions upon thousands. It was like nothing could break us apart. I guess kidnapping her and enduring whatever kind of hell she put me through at my house was worth it in the end.
"Toshiro."
"Yes, love?"
"Did I ever tell you how much I love you even though I utterly hate your guts sometimes?" She said, and referred to the captains' meeting. She must've been so embarrassed in front of her brother.
"Oh really, now? What a coincidence. I love you too." Rukia smiled from ear to ear.
"promise you won't ever leave me...promise me." She asked.
"what are you talking about Rukia... Why would I ever leave? Did you forget that I was the one who fell for you first? I fI leave now, all of my efforts to get you to like me back would be wasted. And I did NOT go through weeks of heaven and hell just for the fun of it all." I admitted.
I was completely serious with my words, but Rukia laughed out loud.
She laughed at me.
She literally laughed like a hyena at ME, the soutaichou. Her superior.
"Rukia." I growled darkly. Her laughing continued on without even a pause. "Rukia!"
"Geez Toshiro, can't even take a joke. Rangiku-san was right about how serious you always are. No wonder she said it's so borng to talk to you! you're all serious and paperwork!" She pouted.
I was fine with Matsumoto calling me 'boring', but my dear Rukia should know fully well that I am not in the least boring.
"Bakudo #1! Sai!"
"Hey! W-What are you doing? Isn't it against the law to abuse your subordinates?! I ignored her protest and effortlessly threw her over my shoulder with one arm. She was so light, even a little too light for her own good...has she lost weight?
I flashstepped into my private office and for once in my long life, I was thankful that Matsumoto went out in the middle of the day to drink.
I dropped Rukia lightly onto my desk ans stepped between her legs, going in for a kiss.
"I'll make you pay for saying I'm boring."
