Chapter 80

Drunk talk

Seraphine sighed before opening her eyes, she felt warm and safe. Klaus' arms were around her, he seemed to be asleep. Well, judging by the darkness, it wasn't a morning yet. She smiled and softly touched Klaus' cheek, she was happy that they had talked. And he had been so adorable, lying to her that her mood swings didn't bother him.

"He is a perfect protector, keep him happy."

Seraphine's eyebrows furrowed when she looked at her stomach. Look who was awake. Would the baby hear her thoughts? It was worth trying.

"Hello? Can you hear me?"

"Yes."

Her eyes widened in surprise, she hadn't really expected that to work.

"Is everything alright, Sam? I hope you don't mind me calling you that."

"No, I like the name you have chosen for me."

"Oh…That's good."

Seraphine hesitated, the whole situation felt strange.

"You said that you want Klaus to protect you, what did you mean by that?"

"Us. Protect us."

"Alright, us… Protect us from what?"

Silence. Seraphine waited, but she didn't get any answer.

"Sam?"

Finally her son spoke again.

"It must be him or the calm one, the third one can't be trusted; he is too impulsive. And he does not like me."

Seraphine frowned.

"You mean Kol?"

"Yes."

Instinctively her hand touched the bed on her other side, but no one was there. Had she expected Kol to be there, she really wasn't sure. As weird as it was, she had kind of liked to sleep between him and Klaus. That was certainly weird and she was pretty sure that it was wrong. What kind of woman would… Maybe it was best not to finish that thought.

"How do you know that Kol doesn't like you?"

"To him I am merely an inconvenient obstacle, stopping him from getting what he wants."

"What's that?"

"You. Not us, you."

Seraphine was confused, how could an unborn child possible know these things? On the other hand, how could she be talking with an unborn child? But deep down she knew that Sam was right, Kol certainly wasn't a paternal type. Did she want him to be? She had no idea. Things had been much simpler when she had hated Kol and her only dream had been to get her life back. Now she had some kind of twisted threesome relationship with both Kol and his brother. That was just…disturbing.

She cared about them both, there was no point denying it, but now she had to put Sam first. What ever he was, she would love him and take care of him, no matter what it would take. She would give her son the life she never had. He was quiet now and she could tell that everything was alright with him. Seraphine touched the bears on the bedside table and kissed Klaus' hand before carefully getting up; she didn't want to wake him. Silently she opened the door and tiptoed to the living room.

She almost tripped on something; there were some toys on the floor. What… Probably Elijah. She couldn't help but smile when she picked up a small blue car. Surely Sam would love it. She was about to get a glass of water when she noticed that the door to the balcony was slightly open. The night was chilly and the cold wind made her shiver when she walked to the door, planning to close it. No more than a second later someone grabbed her hand and yanked her outside. She didn't have time to scream when she met Kol's intense gaze, he pulled her close to him, staring at her.

"What are you…"

"Quiet," he ordered and lifted her up into his arms. Her body tensed immediately when she smelled the alcohol, clearly he was very drunk. Before she managed to do anything, he jumped on the railing, still holding her in his arms. She panicked; they were very high, on the tenth floor. Instinctively she wrapped her arms around him as tightly as she could, wanting to pray him for not to drop her. Unfortunately she wasn't able to speak or scream, not even when he jumped over the railing. Oh God…

She held him even tighter, burying her face in his neck and keeping her eyes shut. Her heart was beating like a drum and her panic was growing, but they never hit the ground, he kept jumping from a railing to railing. They weren't going down, they were going up. Finally he stopped moving, but she couldn't let go of him or even open her eyes. The sudden shock had made her cry, but when she felt him stroking her hair, the shock was replaced by anger, what did he think he was doing? Angrily she raised her head and looked around. They were on the roof and judging by few empty bottles Kol had been here for a while. He was still staring at her with the same intensity, but there was also something sinister about his look.

"You can speak," he murmured tensely.

"Thank you so much," she snapped. "Let go of me."

His eyes narrowed, but surprisingly he obeyed. Seraphine shivered when he placed her in front of him, the roof was wet and cold. She was barefoot and she was only wearing a short satin nightie.

"What do you think you are doing?" she asked angrily. "You scared me half to death…"

She paused when he took a menacing step towards her. He was drunk; it wouldn't be wise to anger him.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, did I ruin your night?" he asked mockingly. "Do you miss my brother already?"

Seraphine tried to look calm, but she couldn't stop herself from backing away. The wind was freezing, she wrapped her arms around her, but that didn't help much.

"Kol, please…" she started as calmly as she could.

"Please what?" he snapped and picked up one of his bottles. "I'm so sick of this… I want this to end…"

She swallowed and looked around her, trying desperately to find a way to escape. Her hands touched her stomach protectively before she tried to run to the roof access. He was in front of her immediately, looking at her fierily. She was really afraid now, something was definitely wrong with him.

"Why do you always do that?" he asked callously. "Why do you automatically assume the worst of me?"

For a moment she was too stunned to reply.

"What?"

He laughed bitterly and threw his bottle against the railing.

"I never had a chance, did I?" he murmured. "It doesn't matter what I'll do, I can't undo the past."

She looked at him cautiously, trying to understand what he was saying.

"You have ruined me, you know," he continued, running his fingers through his wet hair. "Everything was perfect before I met you. And look at me now, I'm pathetic."

"No, you're not," she said firmly, although the cold made her voice shiver. "You're drunk and soaking wet, you need to get some sleep…"

"You just don't get it, do you!" he shouted. "I love you, dammit! I don't want to but unfortunately I do!"

She stared at him disbelievingly, how drunk was he? There was actually desperation in his eyes when he looked at her.

"I'm not a nice person, I like to hurt people, as you know, and I always say and do all the wrong things. I hate kids, but I'll try my best for not to hate yours. Overall I don't have much to offer, but I would like you to be mine. I love you, Seraphine."

A long silence followed his words; she had never seen him like this before. He actually sounded…sincere.

"Kol…" she said gently and touched his hair. "I…" Oh no. "I'm going to be sick." She managed to move few steps away from him before she threw up.

"Not quite the answer I was hoping for…" he murmured. "Are you alright?"

She was shaking but she managed to nod.

"Yeah, but I'm freezing. Could we please go inside?"

Her legs could barely hold her; silently he appeared next to her, scooped her up and headed towards the railing.

"Don't you dare," she warned. "I'll throw up again."

Thankfully he agreed to use the door; she was so cold that she couldn't even think straight. For some reason he seemed much calmer when he carried her down the stairs, fortunately using a normal human speed.

"Listen, about what you said…" she started and felt his body tensing.

"Forget it," he murmured. "I didn't mean any of it."

She looked up and saw his usual smirk.

"Too much cheap scotch. I only wanted a little action, but the whole throwing up thing killed my mood."

Seraphine stared at him disbelievingly.

"Pig," she murmured angrily.

His smirk grew wider.

"Hey, it's ok, baby, I think I can give you a quickie if I really try…"

"Let me go right now!" she demanded angrily. She was shaking with cold and humiliation; he was the same jerk than always. How could have she been stupid enough to think that he could be sincere?

"No, I don't think so," he replied cheerfully. "We don't want you to fall down and hurt yourself now, do we? Your lover would surely blame me for it."

She pressed her lips together and stayed quiet, there was no point arguing with him. In fact there was no point talking to him at all. As soon as he opened the door to their suite and placed her on the floor, she marched to the bedroom and curled up under the covers.

"Hey," Klaus murmured sleepily. "Is everything alright, love?"

"Yeah, I'm just a little cold," she murmured.

He ran his fingers down her neck.

"So you are. Geez…"

He rubbed her arms and legs, trying to warm her up.

"What…You went outside like this?"

"I…don't want to talk about it," she murmured.

Klaus looked at her sharply.

"What?"

"Please, I would like to get some sleep."

He didn't seem pleased but he nodded.

"Of course, sweetheart."
