A little over sixteen years now, Pamela Isley had been Poison Ivy.
A little over sixteen years since she had been allowed near her daughter.
And as Commissioner James Gordon rolled a Television and VCR into the so called interview room in Arkham Asylum, she wondered what fresh torment he had for her today.
"If you're here to show me security footage, you must be going senile," the villainess told the man. "In case you've forgotten, I've been locked away in here for three months now."
"This isn't security footage," Jim told her, popping a tape into the VCR. "But I think you'll appreciate it."
Appreciate it, Ivy did.
For the TV began to play a home video, one time-stamped a few days ago. It was a high-school graduation ceremony. And the camera was focused on a young woman with red-hair.
Pamela smiled sadly as tears began to fall down her face as she watched her daughters graduation ceremony.
Her daughter had been a little over a year old when Jason had turned her into Ivy. And it was when Gordon had first arrested her that she came to respect the older man. She had asked him to make sure her daughter had a good a life. He had actually promised her that he would take care of her.
And James Gordon had gone above and beyond when he fulfilled his promise.
As the video ended, Ivy wiped tears away from her face. "Thank you," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "Does she know?"
Gordon frowned. "No. And unless you want me to tell her, I don't plan on it."
Ivy shook her head, "No. It's better if she doesn't know. The last thing she needs is the knowledge I'm her mother." She snorted in amusement. "I can only imagine how she would feel about being Poison Ivy's daughter. And I don't want her to follow in my footsteps in some misguided belief that she needs to make me proud. She deserves a normal life."
"She's grown into a fine young woman," Gordon commented.
"Yes, she has."
James stood and opened the door. But as he was rolling the television out, Ivy stooped him.
"Commissioner," Ivy said.
Jim turned back to look at the woman.
"You've done a great job raising Barbara," Ivy told him. "I don't think I can ever thank you enough."
James Gordon smiled at the thought of his adopted daughter. "And you'll never have to."

A/N – This is, obviously, AU. And I have no idea how this idea popped into my head, especially since I'm a Barb/Ivy fan, but it did. But in the comics, Barbara was Jim's adopted daughter and biological niece. I don't remember what happened to her actual parents, but here's the explanation for this story. Jim's bother and wife died shortly before he and his ex-wife took custody of Barbara, and he told her they were her parents. Also, Ivy has no idea that Barbara is Batgirl and this obviously takes place before the events of The Killing Joke.
