Author's Note: Took forever to get it posted, but here's the next chapter. This was going to be posted way earlier, but my laptop has been acting really strange, so here it is over a month late. Better late than never, I suppose. There's a very special appearance in this chapter that I hope you all enjoy. I don't think this chapter is as lengthy as others, but I didn't have the inspiration I needed. There's nothing dramatic in this chapter, it's just another one of those chapters to hold you over until I get to an interesting chapter. Not much else to say, but I hope you all had a very happy holiday. Enjoy!
The remainder of their Thanksgiving break went well. They spent majority of their time inside, but tried to make the best of it nonetheless. Now, they're getting their usual schedule back on track; work and school. They have two weeks until they have to take their finals for the semester and begin their Winter break.
Jade's sitting at one of the empty tables in the café, studying while she's on break.
Kendall walks over and sits in the chair in front of her. "Hey,"
"Go back to the cash register before somebody robs it, Blondie." Jade tells him.
"There's no one in here right now."
"Whatever."
"You've gone back to your bitch ways, lately." Kendall says, pausing. "No offense."
"None taken and I'm under pressure. I'm determined to get the highest grade possible on these damn finals and it's stressing me out."
"We still have two weeks."
Jade glances up. "You're one of those who like to wait until the last minute to get things done, aren't you?"
Kendall shrugs. "I usually work well under pressure."
"Well, I don't."
"You've been doing fine all semester."
"That means nothing! I could still take that final and fail."
"But you won't."
Jade scoffs. "You don't know that."
"I do. You've made nothing but A's and you're incredibly smart. Those finals will be a breeze for you."
"Whatever, I still need to study."
"Fine. I'll leave you be."
"You do that." comes her response as she focuses back on what she was studying.
"You know what I was thinking?" Kendall asks her as he wipes off the counter.
Jade sighs, but answers. "What?"
"We should have an open mic night."
"An open mic night? Really?"
"It'd be fun; I bet a lot of people would be into it."
"Is this some lame excuse for you to get up and sing one of those songs you've been working on?"
"Not really, I just think it'd be fun."
Jade shrugs. "Whatever you want."
It goes quiet for a moment before Kendall speaks up again. "You know what else I was thinking?"
Jade groans and rolls her eyes. "What?"
"That you should sing at the open mic night."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
"Because I think you'd be really great."
"You're biased."
He shrugs. "Maybe a little."
"More like a lot."
"You're talented either way." Kendall tells her.
"If I tell you I'll at least think about it, will you leave me alone?"
Kendall nods. "Yeah,"
"Fine. I'll think about it."
"That's all I needed to hear."
"And that's all I needed to hear. Now, leave me alone."
"Yes, Madame West." he responds.
It was a relatively slow day at the café for the remainder of the day. Jade was grateful, though, because it gave her the opportunity to study a little bit more. She studied the entire car ride home and went straight to her room to continue once they got home.
Kendall mills about the apartment, not finding much to do. He thinks about writing another song, but inspiration doesn't come to him. All in all, he's bored and he wishes Jade would quit studying for a little bit so he could at least have something to do.
He gets a text from an old friend who's in town asking him to hang out and he immediately agrees. Sighing, he gets off the couch that he's been sitting on for the past half an hour and walks down the hall to Jade's room.
He knocks once before opening the door. "I'm heading out to go meet a friend. Since you don't seem to be leaving your room any time soon, do you want me to bring you back anything?"
Jade doesn't look up from her book. "No."
"Alright. I'll be back later, then."
Jade nods her head. "Uh huh."
Kendall rolls his eyes. "Later." he says, closing her door back.
Not even twenty minutes later, Kendall's parking his car on the side of the street; he had agreed to a little bit of basketball playing as they caught up. He steps out of the car, closing the door and locking them behind him. Pocketing his keys, he makes his way to the court where he immediately sees a familiar face sitting on the bleachers.
"What's up, Mr. Fame?" he yells with a smirk as he walks up in front of him.
"Knight," one of his childhood best friends, James Diamond, greets. "It's been a while."
"Too long, dude." Kendall agrees as they embrace each other with a bro hug. "How's the Big Apple been?"
"Pretty good. Broadway's been really amazing. Carlos and Logan even flew out and saw one of my shows. What's your excuse?"
"Been busy." Kendall says, shrugging. "I'll try to make it out to one."
"It's the least you could do since I flew all the way here to hang out with your ass." James jokes.
Kendall chuckles. "Yeah, whatever."
"How's LA been?" James asks. "Same as always?"
"Yeah, for the most part. The only difference being I moved into an apartment."
"You living alone?"
Kendall shakes his head. "Roommate."
"I'm surprised Mama Knight let you leave." he laughs. "Roommate's not a dick is he?"
"It's a girl."
"Really?"
"Yeah and she's cool for the most part."
"Anything happening with you two?"
"If you're trying to ask if we've fucked, the answer is no. We've kissed a few times, but that's it."
"I would think after what happened with Jo, you'd wait a while before doing anything with anyone."
Kendall shrugs and sighs. "I actually really like her, man. Well, love her."
"Tell her. Make a move."
"She told me I'm not her type. I guess she doesn't want anything between us."
James places a hand on his shoulder at the sound of his dejected tone. "You're still a great guy, Kendall. Maybe it's just better this way."
"Yeah,"
"Regardless of all that, I still want to meet..."
"Jade."
"Jade. I have to see who's got my bro so in love like a little schoolgirl."
Kendall laughs. "That can be arranged. Are you staying with your mom?"
James rolls his eyes. "Unfortunately."
"You can stay at our place. You'll have to sleep on the couch, but at least you'll be away from Brooke."
"You don't have to tell me twice. I haven't even taken any of my things out of the car, so I'll just follow you to your place."
"Sounds good."
"Let's get this game going, though." James says, standing back up. "It's been a while, but I'm sure I can still kick your ass."
"You're on, Diamond."
Kendall and James grab something to eat after an hour of playing basketball. When they get to the apartment, Kendall helps James carry the ridiculous amount of suitcases (because a Diamond always has to look good) to the elevator and into the apartment.
"Nice place." James says as he looks around.
Kendall kicks the door close the door behind him. "Thanks," he responds. "You can put all this shit in my room." he says, motioning for James to follow him down the hall.
James looks around Kendall's room, chuckling as he does so. "Looks exactly like it does at Mama Knight's."
"It was easier this way."
"Your roommate home?"
Kendall nods. "In her room. Hold on." he says, walking across the hall to Jade's room. "Hey,"
"What?"
"I'm having my friend stay here for a few days."
"Whatever."
Kendall sighs, walking over and sitting on the edge of her bed. "Are you gonna be rude like you were when you first met Camille?"
"You'll see."
"Jade," he groans.
"Don't get your panties in a bunch, Blondie. I'm joking."
"Good. Come meet him."
Jade rolls her eyes. "When I finish this section, I will."
"Holding you to that." Kendall tells her, getting up and walking back to his room.
"Where is she?"
"She's a little busy right now. She said she'll introduce herself later." He responds, but knowing Jade he isn't sure how true that is.
James nods his head, taking a seat on Kendall's bed. "Question,"
"What?"
"How hot is she?"
"You can't date her."
"Didn't say I was going to."
Kendall raises an eyebrow. "Then why'd you ask that?"
"Just making conversation."
"James."
"Come on, Kendall. You know I wouldn't do that to you."
"Dude, I love you and all, but you kinda would."
"Maybe a few years ago, but not now. That's just fucked up."
"You can't blame me. You've done it before."
James rolls his eyes. "We were thirteen! Let it go."
"I have. I was just saying, but if you make a move on Jade, I probably won't let it go or forgive you."
"Understandable, but seriously. Answer the question."
"I'd give her a nine point five on a scale of one to ten."
"Why not the full ten?"
"Her attitude."
"What about my attitude?" Jade questions as she walks into the room.
"Nothing." Kendall responds.
"Uh huh."
"This is Jade, obviously." he says to James. "This is one of my good friends, James." he tells Jade as he turns his head back in her direction.
"Hey," James says as Jade takes a seat beside him.
Jade nods her head in acknowledgment. "I'm surprised you actually have guy friends."
"Well, it's surprising to me that you have a friend at all." Kendall retaliates.
"Watch yourself, Knight."
"Or what?"
"Don't worry about that. Just watch yourself."
"Pleasant isn't she?" Kendall asks James.
"Shut up." she tells Kendall, rolling her eyes before speaking to James. "What brings you here anyway?"
James shrugs. "Had the time so I decided to fly out."
"Don't you go to college?"
"Me? No."
"James performs on Broadway." Kendall informs her.
"Broadway? Seriously?"
"Seriously." James responds. "Beats the hell out of going to school."
"How many shows have you been in?"
"Just two as of now."
"Wait. You like Broadway?" Kendall asks her.
"Yeah. Does that surprise you?"
"A little bit, yeah."
"Do you want to perform on Broadway?" James asks.
"Hell, yeah! I thought about moving to New York after graduating high school."
"Why didn't you?"
"I have my reasons." she replies vaguely.
"It's better than being stuck in LA, in my opinion."
"They're basically the same." Kendall says.
"Not really." James and Jade reply simultaneously.
"Come on, Blondie, don't you know anything?"
Kendall rolls his eyes, losing interest in their conversation. He's hating the fact that the more they talk, the more they have in common. Jade's actually really into what James is saying and it's making him jealous beyond belief. After nearly an hour of talking, Jade finally leaves; opting to go back to her room and study some more.
James looks over at Kendall, who's leaning against his desk. "What happened to you, man? Zone out on us?"
"Something like that." he mumbles.
"She's really cool." James says. "Way more interesting than I thought she would be."
"Glad you think so."
"Is there a problem?"
"Nope." Kendall says flatly.
"Come on, Ken. You can do a better job at lying than that."
"There's not a problem."
James raises an eyebrow. "You sure about that? The look on your face says otherwise."
"Can we drop this?"
"Fine," James responds, getting off the bed and beginning to make his way out the room. "I'll let you have your moment to get over this."
"There's nothing to get over."
"I'm not interested in her."
"I didn't say you were."
James scoffs and rolls his eyes. "Right. 'Night, bro."
Kendall watches James leave before he closes his bedroom door with a little more force than necessary.
"Yeah, you're fine, alright!" he hears James yell sarcastically.
He walks over to the corner of his room where his guitar is located and picks it up, walking back over to his bed and taking a seat. He closes his eyes, strumming a few chords before he starts.
"I'll love you, if you ain't got nobody to love
And I'll adore you, if there's no one to adore
And I'll show you, if there's no one to show
And I'll know you, if you want somebody to know."
Just then, there's a brief knock at his door.
"Yeah?"
The door opens and Jade appears. "What's your problem?"
He rolls his eyes. "I have no problem."
"Really? Because it sounded like you tore the door off its hinges a few moments ago."
"Don't worry about it, Jade."
"Oh, I'm not. I was just thinking you kicked pretty boy out."
Kendall glances up at her. "He's in the living room."
"I know that. I went out there and saw him."
"Of course you did."
"He's not my type."
"Why're you telling me that."
"Because I could tell the entire time we were talking that it bothered you."
Kendall shrugs. "Doesn't matter. I'm not your type, either."
"You'd have a better shot."
"Really?" he questions.
Jade shrugs and begins to leave. "Later, Knight."
Kendall smiles. "Goodnight," he tells her as she closes the door. "Cover girl." he finishes.
