Chapter 5
As quick as Kakashi had disappeared, he reappeared in front of the three in the grace of a whirlwind.
"You!" Kakashi boomed, the three looked alarmed but they quickly recovered ready to face the consequences.
"Pass," he finished in a much softer tone.
"Huh?" The three echoed, unable to believe what they just heard.
"Yooouu Passs," Kakashi repeated.
"I don't get it. How'd we pass?" asked Sakura.
"You're the first team to get it. The others just listened to whatever I said, and fell for every trap. They couldn't think for themselves. A ninja must see through deception," explain Kakashi. "In the ninja world those who break the rules are scum, and that's true. But those who abandon their friends... Are worse than scum. The survival test is over. Everyone pass. And I believe Itachi and Kagome are well on their resting break right this moment. I will report back myself however, so don't bother visiting the Hokage's office yourselves. I now announce that you have all passed as a whole group. Go home and get a good night's rest. Squad seven will begin their first mission tomorrow." Kakashi concluded.
~The next day~
"What's your distance from the target?" asked the static voice of Kakashi.
"Five meters, from Point A. Ready for your signal." Itachi replied.
"Point B, ready." Sasuke's monotone voice.
"Point C, super duper ready!" chripped Sakura.
"Point D, Same here," replied Kagome.
"Point E, I'M READY. And HEY! WHY AM I THE LAST POINT!? I SHOULD BE THE FIRST!" Naruto yelled across the receiver. Kagome flinched at the sudden hit of loud waves through her ear drones.
"Okay, just wait for it..." Kakashi trailed off, ignoring what Naruto had said completely.
"Now!" Five fast moving blurred shadows flashed across the clearing as everyone rushed out of their hiding spots and raced towards their target. Naruto being the closest got there first,
"AHA I GOTCHA!" He yelled as he pulled the cat up by it's furry arms, only to be scratched to shreds as the fluffball decided his face needed some rearrangement. Sakura sighed as she watched Naruto and the cat. Kagome moved towards them and placed her hand just above the cat's head, glowing a very faint pink. The cat calmed down and stared up at Kagome for one second before purring and immediately leaping into her arms. Kagome stroked its soft fur gently and let it snuggle closer to her chest.
"Now now, before you two get too cosy there, can you verify the ribbon on the left ear?" asked Kakashi.
"Yes, ribbon on left ear. Mission complete." replied Sasuke.
"Alright, lost pet Tora captured. Everyone meet me back at Hokage's office." Kakashi stated then the static turned off.
"Ugh... More walking." Sakura complained as she started heading towards the Hokage's Tower.
"Yeah! Why must Kakashi Sensei have it easy!? And can't we get a better mission!? I swear cats all hate me! And I hate them too!" Naruto joined in on the complaint as he walked side by side next to Sakura. Sasuke just 'Hn'ed' and followed behind. Itachi looked towards Kagome, and she gave him a little nod. Swiftly, Kagome spun and disappeared in a swirl of dust and petals.
"Oh my cute little Tora-chan, I was so worried!" cooed a chubby rich lady her face was caked in so much make up it was hard to recognise her as Fire Country Lord's wife Madame Shijimi. As she rubbed her cheek affectionately against the cat, while effectively squashing it like the art of making meat patties.
"Hahahaha! Stupid cat, that devil deserves to be squashed!" laughed Naruto. Kagome whacked the back of his head immediately.
"Remind me again why that cat ran away?" Kagome's voice dripped with sarcasm. "I certainly don't blame her for doing so at least, if I was her I definitely would have done the exact same thing, except smarter." Kagome sighed. Everyone looked back to where the cat was getting strangled, then sweat dropped and nodded their heads in silent agreement.
"Yeah no wonder he ran away," agreed Sakura.
"Now then," started the Hokage gaining the everyone's attention and Kagome took the chance to quietly walk behind the rich lady, placing her hand just above the kitty's head, it began to glow a creamy pink. Once again, the cat purred and settled down much quieter. As the Hokage continued his announcement,
"Now.. For Kakashi's Team 7, you next duty is... Hmmmm... Babysitting the Chief Consoler's three year old, shopping in the neighboring village, digging up potatoes, and then-"
"NO. NO. NO. No thank you!" interrupted Naruto. "I want to do, you know, an incredible mission! Find us a new one! " he exclaimed holding up his arms in an 'X' motion. Kagome silently agreed although shopping did sound kind of nice to her.
'He's got a point' thought Sasuke and Itachi, while Sakura just thought Naruto was a pain. Kakashi sighed.
'I knew this was coming up,' he thought.
"How dare you!" Iruka exclaimed, "You're just a stupid rookie! Like everyone else you start with simple missions and works their way up!"
Kagome sighed.
'I would definitely destroy this place just to prove to you how strong I could be if I had the slightest of chance to...' she thought quietly.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS? BABYSITTING IS NOT A MISSION; NEITHER IS GROCERY SHOPPING! THOSE ARE FOR OLD LADIES TO DO NOT US NINJAS!" Naruto yelled, just about when Sasuke had enough and gave him a second whack on the head, sending Naruto tumbling to hug the floor.
"Will you shut it?" asked Kakashi.
"Naruto it seems I have to explain to you, what these duties are all about... " started the Hokage.
'Oh my lord...' thought Kagome when the Hokage started to lecture Naruto. Kagome looked over to Itachi with a slight hint of plead in her eyes as if saying 'help me I want to be out of here'. Itachi just shrugged slightly and with a little sorry expression looked back at her 'Sorry, I can't do anything here can I...'
"Listen, everyday the village receives numerous requests, from babysitting... To assassination. Each request is written down on these lists and then divided into A, B, C, D, ranking based on difficulty. Like wise, the village is also divided based on skill. Starting with me to the Jounins, Chunins then finally Genins. The missions are then handed out by us at the top to the ninjas based on their abilities. And if the duty is completed successfully then we receive payment from the clients. You guys just recently became Genins so D rank missions are perfect for you." explained the Hokage.
"Last night I had pork ramen, so miso soup sounds good for..." Naruto counted off, completely ignoring the Hokage.
"Silence!" yelled the Hokage realizing that he wasn't even listening.
"I apologise," said Kakashi rubbing the back of his head.
"Geez, all you ever do is give lectures to me all the time. But you know what? I'm not the little brat you think I still am. " finished Naruto crossing his arms over his chest. Iruka couldn't help but smile a little at his student's improvement.
'I'm going to hear about this later,' thought Kakashi rubbing the back of his head. The Hokage smirked slowly.
"Ok." said the Hokage surprising everyone. "If you want it that bad, I'll give you a C-ranked mission. It's a protection mission of an individual."
The whole group faces lit up suddenly. Kagome leaned slightly forward to pay more attention.
"YAY!" cheered Naruto. "WHO!? WHO!? A PRINCESS!? A FEUDAL LORD!?"
The Hokage laughed, "Calm down. I'm about to introduce him right now. Hey, will you come on in now?" as the door creaked upon its movement, Team seven all turned towards the door as an old man stumbled into the room.
"What this? They are just a bunch of stupid brats. Especially you, little one with the idiotic look on your face, are you really a ninja?" He looked towards Naruto. However Naruto didn't seem to get that he was mentioning him as he laughed too and looked around his team mates.
"Haha. Who's the little one with the idiotic on his face?" he questioned. Kagome and Itachi sighed as the two straightened up, everyone else lined up so Naruto could see that he was the shortest, and he was stunned for a moment. Then realisation struck him like a lightening bolt.
"I'LL KILL YOU, YOU DRUNKIE!" yelled Naruto dashing towards the old man, but Kagome pulled out her fan and spun it across the room at the blink of an eye, cutting Naruto's path forcing him to come to a halt before he could reach the old man.
"You. Cannot kill our client." Kagome started to walk over to retrieve her fan back. "However," Just as she picked her fan up, "If you dare insult any of my friends again, I shall grant you your death wish." Kagome stated in a cold voice and before anyone could even blink, she shot her hand holding the fan out and stopped just beneath the old man's neck line. "Understood?" As fast as she had moved, she disappeared momentarily and suddenly reappeared next to Itachi's side, leaving no space for the old man to argue or sweat.
'Oh, she's a tough one.' the old man thought.
"Ahem." The old man attempted to clear his throat. "I'm Tazuna, an expert bridge builder, I expect your absolute protection until I get back to my country and complete the bridge."
Kagome nodded slightly. "Sounds much better to me." She said very quietly.
"Agreed." Itachi replied just as quietly.
~Later Outside the Village Gates~
"LET'S GO!" yelled Naruto with his fists in the air.
"What are you so excited about?" asked Sakura who was feeling slightly more annoyed rather than excitement.
"CAUSE I'VE NEVER LEFT THE VILLAGE BEFORE!"
"Hey, am I really going to be safe with this brat!?" Tazuna questioned once again. Naruto's ears flared with rage. Kakashi chuckled "Haha... Well I am a jounin so you don't need to worry."
'Damn this old geezer, he is the worst client ever! I should give him a shot to the face like Kagome did!' Naruto thought silently with rage.
"Now now, where's Kagome and Itachi?" Kakashi asked.
"Here." Kagome replied as she walked up towards them with Itachi right on her heels.
"Oh good. Then it looks like we're all set. By the way, where did you two go?" Kakashi questioned curiously.
"Nothing much, just a quick pop down into the local fabric store. To get this." Kagome replied, she then spun in a whirlwind and when the dust cleared this time, she was cloaked in a gorgeous dark vintage purple coat that flowed down to her ankles and on the back was attached with a furry hood. Itachi wore the same except his was jet black, just like his hair, and his hood was furless.
"Wow!" Sakura exclaimed in awe. Although she was mostly gapping at the older Uchiha.
"Well now that everyone is here. Let's get going."
A/N Sorry for the short chapter guys, but as you can see, I am back and active! Thank you for all the sweet reviews and the Pms, they're great! I love all your support and once again, thanks for being awesome guys. I'm now on break from college, so I will be hopefully updating more often :) (Yes, I have already started working on Chapter 6! xoxo) So stay alerted!
