Kagome in all her patience, had held her feelings regarding the Marriage Law she'd been pressured into. Her eyes took in the loveliness of the house, manor. The touches of silver, pristine marble flooring and hefty, expensive woodwork that was done up in the library and office of the man she was to marry. Talking with him till late into the evening, they'd enjoyed a private dinner and finally, he'd asked about how she'd become entangled in the wizarding world if she wasn't a witch herself.
"...well...Lucius..." she thought carefully over how to proceed and decided to better acquaint herself with the law by answering his question with one of her own. "It was to my understanding that the Ministry was in a bind and had reached out to a number of Muggles to participate in this particular law, was I wrong?"
"You are not. As I was one of the Ministry Governors that had signed off on the law, the details are not lost on me. Muggle participation had been reserved until after all other options had been exhausted. So, that leads me to believe that there is something more to you. The Ministry wouldn't involve a Muggle recklessly, so...what's your secret?"
"My father was a wizard."
His eyebrows raised in surprise at that sudden admission. "Your father? Do I know him?"
"Regulus...is his name. Initials," she paused and watched the man stand suddenly, his eyes wide in surprise, distress, uncertainty...she couldn't quite pin what it was she was looking at. "His initials were RB."
"Regulus Black...your father was Regulus Black? Interesting, very...perhaps we should conclude our meal for the night. It's late, and we've both had long days."
'That is quite the reaction. Who was my father?'

Now sitting on her bed, she laid back on her bed and her hair flared out around her wildly as she stared up at the ceiling. "That probably could have gone worse, so I'll let it be for now. However, I'll be interrogating the hell out of that man tomorrow." She turned to look around her room, her finger trailed over a still unused pink jewel that was lying beside her on the bed.
"...I wonder if this Wizarding world has a way to turn back time..."
The jewel glistened in the light of her room; she recalled her family back in Japan. Saying goodbye to them hadn't been hard. Not tearjerkingly so, at least. She was a right wonder when it came to her emotions. Too interested in finding out about her father, and that her intended seemed to know about him...she wanted to know about him too. She wanted to know why he left. Why he was running from the Ministry...and... who was it that he'd been so worried coming for them. She wanted to ask him, but he was dead, and it was unlikely that they had a way to communicate with the dead. Right? Well, another topic for a later date. She rolled over and curled up under her blankets, reaching to the light switch and flipping it off before closing her eyes to the dreams of a world she'd left behind.

The next morning found Kagome up and outside before the sun had fully risen. She was enjoying the early chill when Draco came outside and stopped in his steps at the sight of her. Still not sure what to make of the girl, he just stared for a moment before turning to walk back inside the estate. He'd spent longer than he'd anticipated with Granger, talking about the war, the mess it had made and all that had transpired that had led up to the end of it. Not like they needed to relive it, but somehow, talking about it helped. Getting home at almost two in the morning, he'd gone straight to bed and had woken up after only four hours of sleep. Still tired, but not able to go to sleep, he was wandering around trying to find something to entertain himself at such an ungodly hour.
"You're up early,"
"Earlier than I wanted to be," Draco said to his father as he settled across from him in the dining hall. He didn't want anything to eat, he really wanted to sleep. "Your intended is outside."
Lucius nodded, "I saw her from my window. I need you to take something to the Minister for me. It's important that you get it to him, Draco." He slid the blank letter across the table and watched his son eye it before looking up at him.
"Am I going to regret this in any way later on?"
Laughing under his breath, Lucius shook his head, "it's concerning Kagome's father. I think...he might have been your Cousin."
That had Draco straightening up. "Sirius?"
"No, Regulus."
Silence fell and Draco took the letter gently in his hand. He learned from his father about what Regulus had done. How he'd died shortly after stealing one of the Dark Lords horcrux's. "Is she looking for him?"
"She's looking for answers. I intend to give them to her, but first, I believe finding your mother would be in her best interest."
"Mother won't be easily found, what do you plan to do?"
"I will have the Ministry search her out, the Aurors should be able to do so. If not, I'm sure that Avaline will know of her whereabouts."
"I already asked...she won't tell me." Draco paused and glanced past his father, "morning mum!" He smirked when she raised a brow and rolled her eyes.
"I insist that you call me by my name." Kagome said as she walked towards the table, glancing at Lucius before asking, "may I join you?"
"Of course. You needn't ask."
"I'm used to strange things happening in my life, but being surrounded by two strangers, I'll apologize now if I go from one extreme to the next."
"One extreme to the next? In what way?"
Kagome shrugged, "when I woke up this morning, I was terrified. The idea of this law is intimidating. Though, yesterday I was fine, if only curious about the magical world I was being introduced."
Lucius nodded, "it happens." He looked to his son, "have you gone to Diagon Alley yet for your seventh-year school supplies?"
"Tch, you mean my eight-year school supplies? No, not yet."
"Do it today and take Kagome with you. She needs a wand and some dress robes. I'm no Hogwarts Professor, but I'm sure I can manage tutoring a young lady in the Wizarding Ways."
Draco nodded, "alright, I'll take her but I'm going to try and get a little more sleep since I came in around two." He looked as if he was at war with his eyes, the lids of which were trying to close as he spoke to his father. Turning his attention back to Kagome, "I'll meet you in the living room at ten, dress comfortably."
She smiled, "right!"
He stood and pushed himself towards his room, stifling a yawn as he fell into his bed and turned in for a short two or three-hour nap. The envelope with the letter from his father to the minister, clutched loosely in his hand.
Lucius walked Kagome to the study where he guided her to the adjoined room that made up the Malfoy Library. "I think four hours of study, two in the morning, and two in the late afternoon will be substantial. As I stated, I'm not a professor, but this shouldn't be much trouble for someone under house arrest."
"Why are you under house arrest?"
He felt the urge to roll his eyes, only years of Pureblood aristocratic upbringing had him resisting said urge. "Of course, the Minister failed to mention to you any of my past grievances. I'm appalled to find myself the least bit surprised by this."
Her eyes widened a bit, "are you some evil wizard?"
"What innocence," he smiled, "tell, how do you categorize good from evil?"
'...' she shook her head, "I don't. The area between black and white that makes up the gray, is too large, too wide an area. I can't judge someone for the choices they've made when I'm guilty of similar crimes. You want to talk murder? Killing? I can't tell you how many creatures, beings, people and demons...I've killed. The means justifies the end...? I don't think so. However, I did what I needed to do, to protect the people that I cared for. In fact, I would do it again if it was to protect my family and my friends." She subconsciously toyed with the jewel at the end of her chain, "I can't begin to understand your life or choices, nor do I expect you'll ever fully understand mine. I'd like to try though. You know...little steps."
"How about," he pulled a book from the shelf, "we start with History then. I'm sure I can squeeze in some tidbits here and there about myself as we go along."
"Sounds like a plan." She took the book, 'because I want nothing more than to do more schooling.'
