Freedom Fries - Chapter 34

"What are you doing Inu-chan? You are supposed to be unpacking…" Rin chided with a sigh as she put down a box of clothes and looked Inuyasha over. The little boy was sitting in the corner of his new room in a bright red smock painting a sun with a smiling face on his wall. "Sesshomaru-sama is going to kill you. Probably Kouga first since he was supposed to be keeping an eye on you…" The fourteen year old muttered as she moved to take the paint from her charge's chubby grasp.

"Naw aw…" Inuyasha said with a shake of his head stubbornly pulling his hand out of reach. "Jak-Jak said that I could…"

"Jak-Jak?" Rin repeated before a high pitched giggle reached her ears. "Jak-nii-chan, what are you doing here?" The young woman asked a bit surprised to find the older man exiting her new room with an armful of paints.

"I cancelled class tonight because the weather is supposed to get really bad and Sesshomaru had his first private photo shoot. One of my students needed a model for her university photography portfolio and she absolutely loves Sesshomaru's cheek structure." Jakotsu replied with a flick of his wrist.

"Oh… he didn't say he was branching out." Rin said with a shrug as she eyed Jakotsu suspiciously. "That still doesn't explain where Kouga is, why you are here, why Inu-chan is painting on the wall and why you were in my room…"

"Rin-Rin so many, many questions… Relax for a bit, enjoy the sofa I helped drag here from the Higurashi's shed almost a mile away…" Jakotsu said dramatically.

Rin rolled her eyes before releasing her hair from the low ponytail she had dawned the entire day as she had walked back and forth from the group home with a little red wagon slowly moving worldly possessions from one place to another. It was relatively warm and humid and she as sweaty, dusty and tired. Sesshomaru had been working all day though Rin hadn't been aware that it was a private photo shoot. But she supposed he might have mentioned it. She had been a bit too happy in the past couple of days to notice much of anything.

The main proprietor of the group home had refused to allow anyone to help her move. The woman was quite upset that she was losing three of her charges and at how it would look on paper. The money she received from watching the trio was unknown but since they basically took care of themselves they had been a good return on investment. She was the one that hired the lawyer to oppose their case. And she had failed miserably.

Rin had been denied the futons she had politely asked for from the main proprietor who had just about spat on Rin's feet at her so called gall for asking such a question. It was fine though, because the woman in charge of the daycare had snuck away long enough to lead Rin to a shed at the back of the grounds filled with things that wouldn't be missed, including a handful of futons, a dining table with mix matched chairs and a few night stands and dressers.

The futons needed to be cleaned desperately, two of the dressers were missing legs and the table and chairs needed a coat of paint a decade ago. Rin had also found a gaudy looking mirror that needed a bit of TLC that she had liberated from the shed. And the sofa that had appeared in between her bringing back the dining table and two of the chairs was covered in a layer of dust and spider webs while smelling of cat.

"So, where did Kouga go?" Rin asked taking a seat on a box that Mushin had dropped off filled with cooking supplies.

"They are out back cleaning the futons. Your red headed friend came over with linens her dad told her to donate to the cause. She saw a questionable stain on one of the futons left and came back with bleach and a gleam in her eyes. I think they were soaking them in bleach and water, rinsing them down and then making tornados to dry them before it rains…" Jakotsu replied as Rin raised an eyebrow.

"They are what?" Rin asked.

"Well, when I looked both held onto a side of the futon and then they started running in a circle until they became so blurred they looked like a tornado, so I guess that's how they are drying them…" Jakotsu replied with a shrug as he handed Inuyasha red paint that the small dog eared boy had been reaching for. "Yours is already in your room, smells awesome too, I think she doused it with fabric softener or something as well. Oh and I brought a vacuum and cleaning supplies… And a toaster and a microwave."

Rin's eyes widened a bit as she finally noticed the excess boxes and items she had not confiscated from the group home's shed or brought from their old rooms. She had been walking to and from the group home all day while Kouga stayed in the house watching Inuyasha. She would just unload her wagon in front of the door and tell Kouga which room to put the items in front of. And he had done it, it seemed, but there was more stuff than just what she dropped off.

"Where did all this stuff…" Rin started as she walked over to a desk that was pushed against the far wall that she swore she had never seen.

"Your friends have been dropping off stuff all day, including me of course. I guess you haven't really noticed since you've been so busy. Even your bosses came by and dropped off some stuff for the garden, and that bouquet you're sniffing." Jakotsu said smugly as Rin turned away from the small bouquet of calla lilies she had buried her nose in.

"I missed them all?" Rin asked quizzically. She let out a light giggle. "I guess I have the worse timing ever. How long have you been here?"

"I've been babysitting and preparing for about two hours." Jakotsu replied with a grin as Kouga and Ayame came inside holding a freshly cleaned futon. The duo dropped it into Sesshomaru's room before greeting their friend.

"Oh hi Rin, I kept missing you when you came, I was in the back organizing your stuff for the garden and then I was cleaning out the bathroom another time." Ayame said hugging her chocolate eyed friend. "Isn't this exciting?" She cooed.

"Very…" Kouga answered cracking his neck and looking suspiciously at the screen that led to Rin's room. "So have you seen it yet?"

Rin raised a suspicious eyebrow at him. "Seen what?" She asked before her eyes wondered over all the occupants in the room.

"Jak-off here has been in your room since he got here with paint. Wouldn't let us see it though…" Kouga said with a shrug as Ayame elbowed him in the side for showing such disrespect to Jakotsu who seemed as though he could care less about the comment.

"Well, I wasn't done." He pouted. "But I am now, everything just has to dry, but Rin you're gonna love it I just know…"

A surprised gasped echoed through the room followed by a string of happy giggles as Rin gazed at the paint job Jakotsu had achieved in her room. She didn't wait for Jakotsu to finish as she squealed over the care and detail he had placed into every flower he had painted on her wall. A reference book of flowers lay forgotten on her futon. "I love it, it's beautiful." Rin squealed.

Inuyasha toddled in seemingly impressed by the art work. "Rin-nee-chan, do you want me to paint you a sun for your flowers?" He asked already dipping his brush in yellow paint. Rin nodded her consent and Kouga almost automatically picked Inuyasha up to let him paint a round yellow ball near Rin's ceiling. The young teen smiled feeling ready for whatever would come her way.

"Perfect."
