Prologue:

That was the last she was 12, the insults about her style and 'silliness' didn't hurt as much, but as a 17 year old, they were sharp as knives. With her 18th birthday quickly approaching her, Mabel had made the choice to adopt a newer, more 'adult' look for this summer. As the familiar front door of the Mystery shack approached, Mable took off up the worn stairs and headed straight into her room, slamming the door and getting to work.

Hand-knitted sweaters were soon replaced with hand-me-down tank tops, mini-shirts, even a pair of heels from Wendy. Mabel's once beloved nachos earrings turned into silver and gold hoops and her hair style, which had remained the same for years was traded in for a pair of scissors and a straightening iron, giving her hair a blunt cut, that framed her chubby face, and with a dab of make-up, she was done. With giddy anticipation, the soon to be adult straightened her posture and then she looked in the mirror. She didn't even recognize her own face from the little girl one that had been there earlier. It was perfect!

"I'm going out!" Mabel called loudly in her excitement as she grabbed her purse, and was about to leave when Stan suddenly stopped her at the stairs.

"No way, no niece of mine is going out looking like that." Stan said looking her over. "Go put on a sweater and wipe off some of that make-up, or whatever."

"What!? But Grunkle Stan, I'm going to be 18 soon!" Mable whined, tossing her arms above her hair dramatically. "Its time for this butterfly to spread her wings!"

"No way. Until that butterfly turns 18, then she still follows my rules." Stan replied, earning soft snickers from the men in the other room.

Mabel stepped back a little to get a look at who had laughed and spotted her twin brother, handy man friend, and her grandfather in the livingroom. Rolling her eyes, Mable mumbled something to them and then started back up the stairs. Stan smiled a bit, feeling a bit of pride in the improvement in his care-taking skills, only then to promptly turn around and leave the room. Once she was sure he was gone, she dashed out the door, not noticing the peanut gallery from before was still standing at the door way, watching her.

"She didn't put on a sweater did she?" Stan mumbled, face-palming a little as he spoke.

"Completely ignore you." Dipper noted, rolling his eyes idly.

"Whatever, just a phase." Stanley added, going back to whatever it was he was doing beforehand.

"Aren't you supposed to be the mature one?" The handy-man asked, earning only a round of laughter from the others beside him.

"Yes, but just let the girl have her fun." Stanley muttered, shrugging his shoulders.

"Yeah, cause tonight is a mans' night!" Dipper roared, jumping onto the dinosaur skull coffee table in a bold gesture.

With another round of laughs, the men began their 'Men's night', allowing Mable to do whatever girls do in their free time.

Mabel silently swore at herself for running out of the house. Not only did her feet hurt now, but she also found that it was very cold outside tonight and she did not have a ride to go anywhere.

"I could've just put a sweater on, asked for the keys to the car and THEN left the house and taken off the sweater!" Mabel mumbled as she sat on a nearby curb and took off her heels.

The black color of the open heels matched the color on her nails. It was such an un-happy color and Mabel disliked it, but other girl's seemed to love the color, and there really wasn't anything to really hate about it, so she went with it. Mabel sighed and took out her phone, which used to be covered in little gems and glitter and smiley face stickers. It was now replaced by a slick coat of bloody red nail polish and an official looking symbol, making it look like a high-priced phone, making the girl feel fancy but in a new way.

9:15PM. 7 unread messages.

The screen of her phone flashed on and off. It took a bit of time (Mainly because fake nails are hard to work with) before she finally was able to open her Message page. Every single text had been sent from her friend Candy's phone.

No sooner had Mabel closed her phone did a car pull up next to her. It wasn't Candy's car. Candy drove around in a baby blue Slug-a-bug with white tires and headlights with green stars on them. This car was black with two red stripes going across the hood. The window rolled down and sure enough, there was Mable's preteen-year-tormentor, herself, Pacifica.

"Finally took my advice?" She laughed, her tone a bit more friendly than how it was a few years ago.

Mabel cringed a bit at the laugh and at the pain in her feet, but was soon surprised when she saw Pacifica nod approvingly, but only for a second before stopping.

"Not bad." She admitted, shrugging her shoulders a little bit as she spoke. "Though a little tip next time you do your make-up. Pink lipstick so isn't your color."

"Chip powder makes better lipstick." Mabel said with a shrug of her shoulders, shivering a little at the cold.

"What are you doing here anyway?" Pacifica asked, her tone staying friendly. "Its a little cold out to be walking around without one of your neat sweaters, you know?"

"Waiting for a ride. My friend is coming to pick me up." Mabel explained, feeling slightly uncomfortable now as she looked down the street.

"Hey, I'm somewhat a friend, so I can give you a ride if you want." Pacifica offered, smiling a little. "I do owe you and your brother for a couple of things."

"Why would you do something nice for me?" Mabel questioned her in a teasing voice. "I thought Dipper was the one you owed the most favors to."

"What? I can't do something right for once?" Pacifica asked as Mabel heard the sound of the passenger side door clicking open.

Mabel was a bit unsure but soon found herself opening the car door and getting inside, feeling relief from the cold night air in the form of heated seats. With a shrug, she closed the door behind her. The moment it clicked shut, the car took off down the road at speeds that went beyond the speed limit.

'Shes worse at driving then Grunckle Stan.' Mabel thought as she dug her nails into the soft padding of the seat.

She glanced in the side-view mirror and saw a pair of headlights quickly leaving her line of sight. A pair of green stars showed through them, and Mabel felt a little guilty when she realized that it was Candy's car, but she ignored this when Pacifica started talking to her again.

"Mind if I make a quick stop?" She asked as Mabel shook her head. "Thanks."

The car suddenly took a sharp turn left as the brown-haired passenger suddenly got thrown against the window of the car and soon came to a sudden halt and her head slammed forward, just inches from the windshield. Pacifica got out and pushed her seat forward and pulled something out of the back seat.

"You coming?" She asked as she began to walk towards what looked like a large house covered in toilet paper and littered with cups, a few cans, sleeping bodies and at least one couple making-out was scattered about the yard.

"I thought you said this was a 'quick stop'." Mabel said as she got out of the car.

"It is. But we're allowed to stay for a few minutes." Pacifica said, over emphasizing the word 'few'.

"Just a few, I have to be home-." Mabel paused for a minute.

'Pacifica is actually being nice to me AND if I go to this party, then maybe her friends will think I'm cool! Doesn't seem like to bad of a deal.'

"What the heck am I talking about?" Mabel laughed as she followed the blonde into the house.

The inside of the house looked no different from the outside. Except for maybe the piece of furniture to heavy to move, and the music that was turned up to ear-splitting volumes came from a large box in the corner of the dining room and the rest of the room was tightly packed with teenagers. among them, the blonde was nowhere to be found and for once, Mabel was kinda nervous because she wasn't there. Quickly, she attempted to make her way through the crowd and after a few minutes of this, felt a hand on her shoulder and something cold pushed into her hand.

"Where have you been?" Pacifica asked, shouting a bit in between sentences just to be heard above the roar of the party, with a large bottle in her hands of what looked to be the same type of drink that Stan kept locked away so the kids wouldn't drink any.

"Looking for you." Mabel mumbled as she looked down at the object in her hand.

A rolling rock.

"I don't drink." She said, politely offering it back to the person who gave it to her.

"Neither do I-" Pacifica was cut off suddenly.

"Come on, it's just one. It's not gonna kill ya." Someone said beside her, as the bottle was pushed back into Mabel's hand. "Just try it."

Mabel rolled her eyes and opened the bottle and took a quick sip of it. She coughed and sputtered as she spit the bitter liquid out, the back of her throat was burning a bit from the amount she had swallowed. Pacifica laughed at the action, though in reality she did disprove of the action as much as Mable did.

"It tastes better if you drink it fast." She said, though she meant it more as a joke.

Mabel was about to set her drink down and just leave right there, when a boy suddenly walked over. He was about a foot taller than her, and had shaggy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. When he saw her, he smiled at her.

"Hey Pacifica, whose your friend?" He asked, looking down at the blonde girl.

"This is Mabel Pines." Pacifica said with a quick shrug.

"Oh? Well, I'm Jared Northwest, Pacifica's older brother." The boy replied with a similar shrug of the shoulders as his sister.

"She and her brother are the Gravity Falls 'Mystery Twins'." Pacifica added suddenly, almost randomly.

"Brother? I wonder why Pacifica's never mentioned him before." Mabel thought but the boy clapped a hand on her shoulder and pulled her from her thoughts.

"We've got a rebel here!" He laughed, his hair falling over his eyes. "You should bring this girl by more often."

Mabel blushed and looked down at her drink again.

'One drink and hanging out for a few minutes won't hurt.' She thought.
