A Child's Thoughts: Itachi looked very old, Sasuke thought, a lot older than her remembered. But he never confronted his brother with this discovery. People seem to get upset and angry with him if he ever told them they were old.

He sat in the room of the House of Unity with a paper and a pen in hand. He neglected everything around him as he reminisced on his memories. All his hopes and dreams were placed perfectly onto this drawing. A blush ran through his cheeks as he noticed how well his his drawing became. Maybe his father would be proud of him once he saw his effort, maybe his mother would reward him... and maybe his big brother would stop ignoring him.

His thoughts ran with his brother. A pain rose in his chest and a tear fell from his eye. He hoped he was doing well.

Chapter 19- Fade

There is a moment in life where you realize reality is a hard place to live in. And where I sat... I felt alone. The wind was frigid and the sky was gray. The ground was cold. And everything around me was silent.

I breathed air and I found myself slightly sane as the wind brushed against my skin. A shiver ran down my spine as I woke to realize I was alive. No tears fell this time. The river in my eyes dried once he found me. The taste in my mouth was bitter. It thirst for water. The gentle rub of my fingers on my body forced me to wince. I braced myself from the nipping frost, but that wasn't enough to comfort me. Rubbing my palms on my arms wouldn't produce heat under the feel of my sand paper skin. There was a voice in my throat that wanted to yell, and a spirit in my chest that wanted an escape, but none had their way. Loss was everything I felt. And hope was nothing to me anymore... It was a lesson he taught me.

Weakness shook through my knees as I sat. Jitters ran through my teeth as I clinged to my clothes. Memories of those distorted moments ran through my thoughts. And poison seeped its way through my heart.

Madara was well and breathing. The cards he played were set in place. "You were the key", he told me once. A key that he with which he would truly be free.

"Come Nora", he called to me as a pain chained me to my seat. Time clicked with the beat of my pulse. Now he stood before me.

"When people have hope", he told me, "they are blind and arrogant to their defeat."

Dread poured itself through my veins, poisoning me slowly, as I decided to follow him. There was no reason to resist him. Around me, all I could feel was fire, destruction, and hate. With one last glance, I will become nothing more than a piece of memory, a part of history best left forgotten. I knelt before the world as a lens watched me. A camera...? Now the world was watching as Madara placed a shining blade upon my throat. He spoke, but his voice sounded like a hum in the background. There was no desire within me to focus to his speech, addressing the people. That brief moment was left for me to reflect on my past. It only made me think of all those lives I had corrupted.

Maybe I still believed my death would bring peace on earth, however, the worst was yet to come. I was assured, as Madara lifted his blade to strike me, that I would not be apart of the future. It was a mercy to rest before the world plunged into an everlasting sleep. And now it was time for me to pay the price for my actions.

As the blade slowly closed in onto my neck, the feeling of guilt only grew ever more choking. I could have done something to save a world devastated by the unreal, but all I did was create more mistakes and cause more suffering and lose more friends. Death rang its bells in my ears and caused a shift in the atmosphere.

There was a seize in the moment as silence screamed into my ears. Madara scanned his perimeter and, in an instant, swarms of origami dove birds whistled through the sky, circling over the House of Unity. The flock of doves grew larger and larger. Wings fluttered innocently in the sky and feathers fell upon my lap. It all felt surreal as my fingers touched the paper. All that could be seen when glancing skyward was a blank, white, sky.

"Konan", I whispered when, suddenly, the horde of dove birds prepared their beaks then launched themselves downwards upon us like a shower of missiles ending a war. The thing was, they didn't fall upon me. They fell upon the one behind me, the one who let the knife fall from his hand and clutter to the ground as he protected his eyes from the doves.

Sitting on my knees I couldn't find the strength to get up. I was hoping for my death to engulf me into an everlasting darkness. It all felt unreal when another flock of doves grabbed onto my clothes dragging me on my knees, helping me up and sending me away from what I thought was my fate.

Quickly, I gazed at my enemy and I found him standing in the center of the roof, cutting easily through the doves, leaving clutters of paper messes around him. The papers that littered the roof began to flicker, taking Madara by surprise. "Paper bombs!", he shouted in shock, but it was too late. As the paper bombs detonated, I held my breath. The force from the blast blew dust into my eyes, blinding me momentarily.

"Ugh!" I felt a surge of energy pull on me. Arms wrapped around my body, taking me off the roof and landing me safely onto the moist earth.

"Stay down", it spoke to me uncaringly...

"Pain?" I questioned, but there was no reply.

When the dust partials were removed from my eye lids, I saw flames hurling from the top of the House of Unity. Near the projectile of the flames, a girl with royal blue hair flew. She defended with origami paper balls, ignited them with Madara's flames, and redirected them toward him. The intensity of the heat was felt coating my skin from a wide distance. It was warm and delicate, yet extremely dangerous.

"Nuisance", I could hear him scold as he dodged a vast rain of flaming paper spheres. Soundlessly, he landed on the earth. "What do you think you're doing?" he scowled.

Konan, the courageous girl, stood before him unmoved. "Building the bridge to peace."

A shiver ran down my spine as fear for her began to consume me.

"The bridge to peace?" He repeated with a memory eclipsing his thoughts.

"You must have heard of it... At least once." Konan was trying to hint to her last conversation with him... The one in which he kills her.

A shiver shrilled down my spine as he answered, "Ah", he remembered, "You are easily moved by Naruto's words. Even as an Akatsuki member, you remain sensitive and weak."

His comment did not hurt her. "Remove your cloak Madara. I wish to kill you without having to betray Yahiko's dream."

An undivided hush conquered the atmosphere between them. Madara did not hesitate or show any intentions to remove the cloak and she just watched patiently.

"If this is how you wish it to end Madara then I will repent for my sin after I cleanse the name of the Akatsuki." A field of origami flowers sprouted from the ground. Their petals were sharp and long as they spun lethally. They sailed through the air, buzzing like chainsaws, with the desire to shred her enemy. They surrounded him as they closed in the distance. Madara appeared to calculate his chances of escape. Konan took advantage of his distraction and commanded the blossoms to attack. As they made contact, they struck with enough force to tear through the grounds viciously. Konan appeared very displeased. The roses stopped rotating. Her enemy was not present within her attack range. In fact, he was absent from the battlefield as well. Slowly, the flowers rose high in the sky as the stems of the flowers perished and the petals disperse across the fighting field. They fell down gently like snow flurries before a snow storm. A petal fell my way and I held it, feeling the paper beneath my fingers.

I gazed at Konan. She was waiting patiently, scanning the perimeter, when she felt her enemy's foot on one of the petals. Easily, she commanded floral petals to rush off the ground and unit into a swirling tornado, aimed at her target. Her opponent, sickened from the flower show, blew fire at the tornado in hopes of igniting the papers to ashes. Konan smirked at his mistake. The twister grew in size as papers were fed into it. The blast from his flames sparked the papers ablaze causing a fire cyclone to emerge. The tornado danced passionately to the music of the crackling papers and rained ashes from the sky. Smoke rose from the funnel cloud like a chimney. And the vertex of the storm lightly touched the earth, scarring it with soot as it traveled toward Madara. There was very little opportunities he had of slipping out of the range of her flaming paper attacks.

A set of flaming paper balls were discharged from the cyclone. Madara dodged helplessly before he leapt atop of a tree in shortness of breath. "You can't feed these flames forever. Soon you'll run out of fuel."

"I can make more." Konan lightly placed her hand upon a tree and in mere seconds the tree dissipated into piles of paper. "I won't let you get out of this easily."

Madara was becoming impatient. It was critical for him to win this fight. So, with desperation, he blew a grand flame at the sky in hope that it will rain.

"I assure you, it will not rain", the leader admitted in amusement as he watched Madara's bleak attacks.

I wanted to laugh at the mischief I heard in Pain's voice and the look in Madara's eye. They were taunting him as the tides appeared to change in their favor.

But Madara wasn't an idiot. Using his eye, he extinguished the flames causing Konan's tornado reign to end. He must have been truly desperate to reveal her card to threaten her. "I will give you two choices. One, I could burn your card and you can follow Itachi. Or two, you will be a good girl and rejoin my team."

My heart dropped once he spoke Itachi's name.

"You killed Itachi?!" Konan couldn't suppress her amazement.

"Impossible!" A kid's voice was suddenly heard. From a window in the House of Unity, a head emerged and demanded an answer. "Itachi wouldn't lose to someone like you! He is the strongest ninja in the world! There is no way you could have killed him!" The child jumped out of the window and onto the grass before me. The child looked ached and hurt to hear that his older brother was deceased. His eyes searched desperately for a sign of his brother and I couldn't handle the pain on his face when Itachi didn't appear. I looked away to bury the guilt again. I'm sorry Sasuke. It's my fault you lost your brother. But I couldn't confess that to him. It was far too excruciating.

Madara appeared frustrated with all the commotion, forcing displeasure in his tone. He glared at Sasuke and answered him sadistically, "Your brother is dead! And I'm the one who killed him!"

Sasuke winced at Madara's comment. "No you didn't." Sasuke held out a drawing he had made of his older brother Itachi. The image he held was of Itachi the way Sasuke remembered him... with his anbu clothing and his leaf village headband. "Itachi promised to help me train and I won't let him break his promise!" The glow in Sasuke's eyes was gentle yet insidious. I could see the vengeful aura dormant within him.

"Pain", Konan gazed at her friend in wonderment.

Pain nodded as he moved toward Sasuke's side. "May I see you artwork child?"

Sasuke cradled the image closer to him as he gazed at the man's cloak. "You're wearing his clothes", he blurted out cautiously.

Pain watched Madara then gazed at Sasuke. "No. He is a traitor who is wearing our cloak. He is our enemy."

Sasuke was hesitant, he focused all his effort onto one drawing, however, he gave it to Pain. Maybe there would be a benefit to this action.

"What are you planning?" Madara's voice was unfriendly.

"Your end." With a set of signs and a drip of blood, Deva Pain yelled as he slammed his hand against the paper, "Summoning Jutsu."

A cloud of smoke emerged, coating a figure between it. A lump formed in my throat as an air current washed away the veil of smoke to reveal an Uchiha who was thought to be dead.

"Itachi!" Sasuke ran to his brother and embraced his leg, squeezing it tight in his arms for reassurance. I stood quietly in disbelief.

"Thank you Sasuke", his voice was kind and gentle as he messed with Sasuke's hair. Sasuke blushed lightly, but didn't say anything in reply.

"Itachi", Pain interrupted his family reunion, "We must finish this together." Pain held the summoning paper toward Itachi. Without question, Itachi grasped it securely and hid it away into his pocket.

Madara began to titter. "You think he will be the one to end me?! Well, I suppose it's time you knew your place."

Konan prepared herself. A vast cluster of origami spears commenced to form behind her. The collection grew far greater then a cloud at war with itself. And when they were shot through the air, they sounded like bullets piercing the dirt. To my surprise, none of them hit their target. They were lodged into the ground around him.

"Your aim has become lousy."

A smirk was smothered across her face as the sky commenced to rain.

Taking Madara off guard, the Deva path of pain stood atop of the House of Unity as the clouds formed and the rain poured. The streams of water mudded the earth and streaks of blue lightning shot out of the clouds. The luminous beams bolted onto the lodged paper spears, disintegrating them and revealing dark metal rods in their place. Madara, unable to escape in time, was caught in the river of electricity as the earth shook violently. I shielded my eyes dearly before the lightning struck. And when the loud boom was gone and the earth settled still, I rubbed my eye tenderly to regain my vision.

"A rock", I heard Konan's surprised voice to see her enemy escape their combined attack. "Substitution."

"No matter", Pain spoke with disinterest, "He cannot run for long."

Konan headed to the field Madara stood in only moments ago. Where could he have escaped?

Suddenly, chains branched out of the mudded earth and restrained Konan in place. The masked man appeared from beneath the earth, dusting off the dry dirt that sat on his cloak.

"Enough!" He bellowed, "If a bridge to peace will be built, you will not see it."

It was over as Madara's hands swiftly performed hand seals to end this battle. "Summoning Jutsu!"

A grand cloud of smoke blew upon the formation of a magnificent statue. Hideous, it was as it sat on the ground with its mouth wide open. It was the vast statue that took Gaara's life the day he was captured. The one that would devour energy with its gruesome mouth then obtain an eye to the death of a vessel. But what struck us all was not the statue itself... it was its fingernails that left us baffled. The statue's nails possessed the images of the previous Akatsuki members... Deidara, Hidan, Zetsu, and Kisame!

We gawked at it with wide eyes and open mouths. "You sacrificed them to power the statue?!" Konan choked as she spoke.

Madara chuckled with pleasure, "They had done their parts wonderfully, but I had to make further use of them", he spoke slowly, "Now you will join them!"

Konan desperately fought against the chains.

"There is no use", he spoke, hungered by his desire for her power, "Those are chakra chains. They devour chakra and render the victim useless. Even Kisame couldn't evade them", he laughed viciously. Pain threw a kunai in hopes of cutting the chains. The kunai was deflected by an invisible force field before it even reached Konan. Madara was enjoying our desperate expressions, "My victims are always protected by a barrier. She's dead!"

I couldn't breath as I watched Madara throw Konan's paper out of his palm and into the monster's mouth. The statue swallowed her card whole and Konan watched in fear as her body was transformed into pure chakra then consumed into the monster's mouth, leaving behind the comic book I had given Itachi. One of the fingernails, on the monster's hand, now revealed Konan's card.

I felt nauseous and frightened as his sight locked onto Pain. "As for you, I still have further use for someone of your ability. You have something of mine that I must take back. Then you will join the others."

The rods on Pain's arms began to disappear. Madara's sharingan devoured Pain's chakra rods then spat them out into another dimension. "Here", Pain commenced dryly, "I do not need these rods. I am an entity of my own."

"Well if that's the case", Madara held the book that was left in Konan's place. "Burn."

Pain felt the flames attacking his core as he clutched hard onto his chest. Suddenly, Madara appeared before him and struck a blow onto his abdomen forcing his body to fly back. The loud thud that rose from the impact of Pain's body toward a tree caused a deafening cracking sound to emerged. The sensation was excruciating as a shiver ran down my spine. The surreal horror that immersed me, as I watched Madara advance toward his goal, was alarming. Deva Pain slowly regained his balance as he held onto the tree for support. His defenseless state, however, as the pain in his heart consumed his attention, caused his end to arrive sooner. Madara took advantage of Pain's vulnerable state. With a swift motion of his fingers, he secure his prize to the tree with the chakra chains. Then, without a moment to waste, his hands reached for his eyes.

Itachi noticed Madara lower his defenses and took it as his chance to attack. He wasn't going to provide Madara with the opportunity to gain such eyes so he blew fire at his opponent. His enemy easily dodged the attack and backed away from Pain.

"I won't let you have his eyes", Itachi stood firmly before Deva Pain. He was ready to protect him if it meant the end of a war.

Madara never released his grip against the chakra chains. In fact, he held them a little tighter forcing blue streaks of chakra to shoot through the chains like electricity. Pain winced as his chakra began to deplete.

"Don't even try Itachi", Madara warned as he observed Itachi's motions, "If you try to cut through the chains while they are activated, you will lose your chakra as well. It will be the end of both of you."

Itachi noticed the glimmer in Madara's eyes. His body was excited with satisfaction. The apparent smirk that was hidden behind the mask was intimidating, however, Itachi prepared himself for a fight.

"Tsk", Madara disapproved, "Wrong again." He shook his head, "I won't fight you, but I'll play a game of cards!"

He revealed two cards engraved with the names of Itachi's parents. Madara was vicious when it came to Itachi. There was no mercy that he would show that Uchiha. The cards pounded on Itachi's soul as if they were a part of him. If he were to lose them, there memory might be gone forever. Madara was set on destroying Itachi as he induced the two cards with chakra. "Perish!" He yelled as he directed the cards toward the statue's mouth.

Swiftly, they shot through the air unbound by the laws of gravity. The chakra allowed the cards to sail through the air, cutting any particle within their path. In moments, they closed in onto their final destination.

"No you don't", I heard Itachi mutter as he bolted toward the monster. There was no time in which he would reach the cards, so he projected fire toward their direction. The hairs on my neck rose as I heard the fire make contact. A faraway scream emerged in the distance and sorrow filled me as I watched him sacrifice his parents again. Immediately, Itachi and Sasuke fell to the ground and held onto their heads bellowing in pain as the memories of their parents were lost. They were panting hard. All they had now was each other.

I redirected my gaze toward Pain. Now Madara was standing before him, reaching for his eyes. I looked away as Madara extracted the Rinnegan mercilessly then watched as he headed back toward the demonic statue. Deva Pain roared from the discomfort that ruptured within his skull.

Without a second thought, Madara fed Pain's card to the monster and I just stood there shaking. Itachi came by, grabbed me and took me by Sasuke, hiding us all from Madara's sight. "Stay here", he cautioned us both. "Protect each other." It sounded like he was desperate to save us. It felt as if we were the last of his family now.

"Be careful", I demanded.

"Itachi!" We all heard Madara holler menacingly, "You're next!"

Itachi wasn't moved by his threat. He glanced at Sasuke one last time then left in a hurry. Sasuke seemed a little shaken, afraid for his brother's well-being. "He'll be fine Sasuke", I reassured him. I wanted to hug him at that moment, not only to comfort him but to comfort myself as well.

Too afraid my emotions would get the best of me, I redirected my sight back at the battlefield... Itachi, you have to win...

4319

Madara threatened me, but I was untouched by the commotion he caused. From this moment on, there was no space for doubt. It was all filled with the memories I held and cherished. This battle was to determine whether they were to live or not. And I intended on giving them a safer world to live in.

The battlefield was vast and green. The wind touched the tips of my fingers gently. The cold chill the air brought coated my skin and with a quick glance at Sasuke, I was prepared to defend with everything I've got. This is where it will end.

Quickly, I leapt from my safe haven into the battlefield. The leafs on the trees rustled as a wave of heat emerged from my lips. Madara countered with a large flame of his own. Both of our flames collided with a blast, forcing ashes of grass to rain upon us.

The look in his eyes was disapproving... and that was my first mistake. Genjutsu emanated from his eyes, overpowering my own. Silence poured into my ears and layers of colors commenced to emerge. His illusions sent me into an empty room. A child appeared before me, seated on the ground. I gawked at him with caution as a memory engulfed me. The child was my little brother Sasuke when he was seven years old. The motions of my feet were firm when I stepped toward him, however, like a reflection of my past, Madara stood behind him with a sword in hand.

"NO!" I yelled as the sword cut through my brother's back, splattering blood everywhere. Within a blink of an eye, everything went blank and I stood yet again in an empty room. My breathing was fast and my heart rate was high. It was a genjutsu, but this was more like the taste of my own Tsukyomi the day I murdered my clan. The feelings inside consumed me as the child entered the room again. Without even moving, my parents appeared behind him with blades glistening with blood. "Stop!" I called in a panic. But their weapons fell voluntarily and slaughtered Sasuke before my eyes. My breath would not rest and the strain on my heart would not recede.

It began again. Sasuke took his place on the ground with a gentle smile on his face. This smile wasn't present in the previous illusions, which brought a great discomfort to my heart and forced a lump to form in my throat. This time, a mirror image of myself stood behind him with a sword in hand. Before my sword fell on Sasuke, I hurled a kunai at my image and shattered it like a glass shard. Broken pieces of my image littered the ground. But the horror did not end. Another image of myself appeared and positioned himself behind Sasuke. With a sword, he grazed Sasuke's skin then, with no mercy, he plunged it deep into his chest.

"Itachi!" Air returned to my lungs when I was released to hear Sasuke's voice. His hand held mine. "Wake up!" He shook me. My eyes weren't strong enough to release myself from that genjutsu. Sasuke now pulled on my arm, moving me in time to miss a kunai.

When I snapped out of my trance, I pushed Sasuke out of the projectile of a fire ball.

"What's wrong Itachi? Can't you handle yourself?!" Madara sounded like he was smirking.

"Itachi!" Sasuke pushed me aside. "Move!"

"I can't...", I finally concluded. The most uncomfortable sensation had consumed me. The tension of my joints, the strain on my muscles, the discomfort in my mind. What was happening?

"You are under my control Itachi. You knew this moment would come and yet you still tried to fight it."

I wished to curse him, but I could not speak foul language before my little brother. Unconsciously, I unsheathed my sword. Bit by bit, I commenced to walk. It was he who commanded me to move. "Let's make that illusion a reality. Itachi, finish it just the way you should have that day you massacred your clan."

When I had come to a halt, I was shocked to find myself standing before Sasuke. The way he gazed into my eyes, I found fear dwelling within them. His face paled and a frown formed on the borders of his lips as if he was prepared to cry. Instead of backing away, he stood firmly in place with his eyes locked onto mine.

"Sasuke", I spoke firmly, "Move."

Sasuke did not budge. Fear disabled his movements. Now, the sword shook in my grasp as I resisted its urge to attack my little brother. But its desire was far greater than my strength. The inability to control my motions overwhelmed me. Gradually, the sword inched toward Sasuke and within an instant, all my control disappeared and the sword flew forward. I shut my eyes from the horror, but, with my blade, I felt a body bleed.

A moan escaped my victim as the blade cut through their flesh. As I opened my eyes, my hands shook violently in guilt. I bit hard on my lip. "I wanted to protect you", my voice was nothing more than a silent murmur.

"I know", a gentle voice punctured the silence.

It wasn't Sasuke's soul my blade captured... It was Nora's. Before the blade struck, she had forced Sasuke out of the aim of my sword and took his place. It was a matter of time before she was to die now.

She placed her hands on the blade with the desperate desire to cease the sword's shaking. "Itachi", she groaned in pain. The sorrow in her voice caused the sword only to shake further and more violently in my hands. There was very little I could control and I felt my mind slowly slip away.

"There is so much I have to tell you", she panted as she spoke, "But there is no more time for me to speak with you."

"Please Nora, save your strength", I called desperately.

She shook her head. "No I have to say this. I will die happily to know that my life had meaning."

"Nora, I-"

"Shh", she calmed me down. "Itachi, you must live for Sasuke. I could die today, but don't let Madara takeover." My knees began to shake. "Just know that you are stronger than him. Even when you see my body laying dead on the ground, you should know he was the one who killed me, not you. Remember..."

The last words she spoke suffocated her. Her body paled white and her lips fell blue. The sword slipped out of my hands and her body fell to the floor with a mind-wrecking thud. There was no pulse anymore and the image of her limp form on the ground left me trembling. How did it come to this?

Now, there was an ache in Sasuke's eyes as he watched me kill Nora. Even if he didn't know her, just the thought of his older brother killing someone was painful. The thought of him being in her place eclipsed his features as he gazed at her fallen body. It looked like it would hurt to die. Sasuke fell ghastly white as he realized I was observing him. He averted his eyes from mine, but he wasn't mad at me. He knew very well that there was something controlling me. He only needed more time to figure out what and why. It would have been a miracle if we were granted more time, however, there was little time to spare.

Now only three stood on the battlefield. And, with every passing second, I felt a portion of my consciousness slipped away.

Memories were beginning to fade and names were being lost. I could not remember my father nor my mother. Their images were a haze of dark figures. All that I could recall was Sasuke. The memories we shared still lived within me. They shone brighter with every fading past. And for a moment, I knew he felt the same too.

The look in his eyes was becoming more vacant. Everything we treasured was slowly lost into an ocean of memories. What will happen to us if we lost each other? Will we not remember our past? Will we fade from each other's heart?

There was only little that I could do and quite the same could be said about my little brother. "Sasuke", I knew my words were to burden him, "Soon I will forget everything and I will not remember who you are." A burn engulfed my throat and my mouth felt thick and dry, "I will kill you when that time comes." The words were far too heavy for me to handle, "You must leave before that time arrives."

Sasuke understood what I was saying to him. I hoped that he would follow through and flee. And even though Madara possessed his card, I hoped a heaping wind would snatch that card from him. Sasuke did not reply and I could see the hopeless thoughts that ran through his mind.

"Sasuke", I caught his attention again, "I cannot see you die before me."

The words I spoke caused him pain and sorrow. There was never meant to be a family for us to share and we were never meant to spend time growing up together. And yet, no matter the situation, Sasuke must live.

My heart lightened when I saw Sasuke prepare himself to depart, however, it dropped in an instant as chains wrapped around his body. A flame emerged at the pit of my heart and I saw Sasuke's face broken with red cracks about. The fire broke my will as I fell to my knees. The wails and streams of tears that flood Sasuke's eyes choked me and yet, my eyes flooded with his. I wasn't able to move, to hold him, to see him clearly one last time. The fuzz in my eyes hid his body from me. And soon, there wasn't one to hide any longer.

"SASUKE!" My voice echoed to the heavens... My heart tore and died. There was no air to breath, no earth to hold me, no sound to wake me. I wanted to yell, to cry, to die along with him, but I remained alive. My hands fell shook violently before me. I couldn't protect him. I couldn't save him. I yelled in agony and despair. "SASUKE!" I felt afloat in space with no rails to protect me. The beat of my heart was fast and hollow. The pain in my head was sharp. I embraced my body as my head hit the grass, I mumbled, "I'm sorry Sasuke. For give me brother. I couldn't protect you." My eyes continued to rain. Soon I will forget him.

I felt cold and alone as everything began to slip away. A shiver consumed me and, in a second, all the emotions rushed out of me. All of my senses vanished along with my treasured memories. It was crushing yet brief, like a dark veil had suddenly collapsed upon my mind. A faded thought, a hollow mind, then a loud buzz beat against my ear drums. With it followed a large rush of pain as the dark curtain unraveled. The emotions, the memories, the thoughts... nothing was left but an empty hole. I awoke on the ground with a dizzying sensation.

A hand fell upon my shoulder and I gazed to see a man with a mask. "Come", he told me. I had no reason, no intention, no thought on what was to happen. So I stood to follow him. Maybe this man would be willing to enlighten me on what had happened.

Nothing settled within me but an odd hollowness as I followed. A slight sting in my eyes punctured through my senses. A burn ruptured in my cheeks as a salty dryness coated them briefly. Now I caressed my cheeks gently as my fingertips brushed against my skin. The wet sensation left me bewildered... Were those tears? Thirst began to coat my throat and the inner layers of my mouth. It was odd that I could not recall a thing. But I shrugged the feeling away. Something about trying to remember left me hurting in pain. The past must not have been a wonderful place.

As I walked, my foot brushed against something hard causing me to trip and fall. The soil beneath me was wet and burnt. The soot around me felt like it had been caused by a great fire. As I took note of my surroundings, a lifeless body of a girl stretched out on the ground. "That was my sword", I recalled as I commenced to observe her. She's... dead... Was I the one who...? No! I dismissed that thought. Impossible! There was no reason for me to kill.

My hand fell on my head as I was consumed in thought. With one last peek at her, her appearance distracted me as I gazed at her face. Something clicked within me. 'Just know that you are stronger than him and you will win this war. Even when you see my body laying dead on the ground, you should know he was the one who killed me, not you. Remember...'

Those words called to me, yet one word sang in my ears...

Remember...

Remember...?

Remember...?!

I was snapped out of my trance as the man called to me, "Come!" His words were brutal and demanding. No words were exchanged between us as I walked away from her and stood beside him. It was oblivious of me to think that he might explain this situation. It was obvious that this man had no intention of telling me her story or why she was dead.

He caught me off guard as he noted, "You have something that belongs to me." He motioned toward my pockets as I found an empty page hidden in my pants. An electrifying sensation emerged as I held the page. It felt warm and exciting as the sensations reverberated throughout my body gently. For a brief moment, all I felt was a childlike joy. Something about it tightened my grip in pain like a bright memory was about to rupture through the dark abyss of my mind. It must have meant something to me. But the gaze of the man told me that it was his. Severe consequences might occur if I did not give it to him. Gradually, I handed it to him, and when his hand grasped it, his eyes glimmered with luster.

"Perfect", he murmured. Quickly, as if time was his enemy, he commenced toward the large statue. The sound of his footsteps were heavy and unbalanced. Every breath he took was heaved in and heaved out. The monster he reached reflected power and hatred. A dark aura surrounded it like flames dancing on the edge of its body.

The monster's mouth began to water, or so it seemed, as the feel of chakra approached him. Madara was about to throw the page, however, he took one last gaze upon me. "If you have any last words to put down in history... What would you say?"

"You had a chance to become somebody worth mentioning, but you choose to dwell in the darkness."

"What?"

Regret washed over him as he lowered his defenses. A blade emerged from the shadows and pierced him through the chest. "You made a small mistake and I took it to my advantage to strike with Susano'o."

The Itachi he was glaring at vanished into a cloud of smoke as I walked before him, hidden in the leafs. "The Totsuka blade will devour you."

His body shook violently beneath my sword's power. There was no escape to this technique and he appeared to comprehend that. There was a bitter gaze in the depths of his eyes. A cruel fascination weaved its way through him. Questions and thoughts tossed around in his head before he was certain it was the end of him. The question he spoke was that of any man underneath the mercy of my blade. It was far too predictable, but I allowed him to ask it. "How are you conscious?"

There was a precious silence before I spoke. "I, myself, am still uncertain. However...", I believed that it was the power of Sasuke's drawing and Nora's urgency to remind me, but the way his violent eyes observed me told me that he would not be pleased with that answer. "I wouldn't have woken alone", I concluded.

The piercing hate his words contained was grueling. "This was a mere accident. Nobody meant to save you... People are selfish and cruel. They care only for themselves. They would kill to achieve their dreams. Stories, like ours, provide people with an escape to another reality to subdue their pain and desire. Stories are nothing more than lies, written on pages, documented for others to hope. But not everyone could reach greatness. Not everyone will have a life truly worth fighting for. Many of us just die without a thing to glorify us or people to remember us. Only those who were written could truly live forever! The rest of us will be erased by time. What happens to those of us who don't leave a mark on history? Those of us who are quiet and live in the shadows? No one will ever hear our stories... We die and nobody will remember us. Generations will come and nobody will visit our grave. We will become nothing. No one will ever hear our stories! There will be no memory of us! History only glorifies those who do the extreme while everyone else is nothing but extra weight! We're nothing from the moment we are born to the moment we die! You call this living, Itachi?! Well, there is no purpose of living if nobody will care for all your accomplishments when you die! You are going to give these people more pain if you don't release me!"

The hurt in his voice was cutting. Deliberately, he attempted on breaking my will, but it was no use. "It's true", I agreed, "Most of us will die unheard and unknown. But does it really matter?" I could tell my answer displeased him. "As long as we are happy, we don't need fame to acknowledge that. What we teach our children in this generation will be passed down as lessons to the future generations. We don't have to be remembered for that. You sound like life is hopeless and living it is meaningless. I live my life to protect others. That in itself has meaning to me and I don't need anyone's acknowledgement to make me happy or to give my life meaning."

There were traces of light shimmering gently in his eyes. It was as if he was reminiscing about his past. "You're like a child with dreams that have no meaning", he said.

"There is trust, Madara, that our dreams will live on in others. Even if they don't, we know they will eventually become somebody else's dream and in the end they will become a reality. It is not necessary for us to witness all our dreams coming to life", I explained, "If you're living in a world where your dreams have no meaning then it is quite a sad world you live in. I am alive because of people's dreams. When I thought I lost everything, I knew the people around me wished the best for me. Sasuke and Nora dreamt a world in which I were to live happily with my family. That is how I am still here. And so, I slowly rekindled my will of fire and caressed my trust in others. Now I know that the sun will shine again tomorrow."

"But you forgot something Itachi... We're not people to dream", he drawled angrily, "We're writings with fake dreams that will never come true."

"The way Nora sacrificed her life to save my brother gave me back trust in these people. She brought us here to treat us like humans not fiction. They never thought of us as illusions nor a mere story. They thought of us as family. They wanted to share our pain and lift part of our burden to comfort us. But you didn't see it as that. You were unable to accept yourself to accept them. They were never your family so you tried to get the rest of us to hate them for what they wrote... But the thing is, the story they wrote about us was to teach them something greater than just being a ninja. Our story taught them trust, love, family, and never giving up even in the toughest of situations. This is what I am to continue with. I will never give up on them again because they are my family and I trust them."

He tittered in defeat. I allowed the tension in my body to rest. No more strain was present on my shoulders. "It's too late now."

"Even if it is late to reverse the attract our planets hold... one planet could fade into the other. That's my plan. We will fade for them to live..."

"We will burn together then...", he informed me. "We will die the same way."

"No", I disagreed, "Like Sasori said, we will live on in their stories and memories. We won't physically exist any longer. But we won't be forgotten as long as people remember."

Soon, I thought, his body will vanish and his card will be mine. There was no more time to speak so I held my hand out, awaiting his card. To my surprise, he revealed it to me. Air knotted in my chest as I watched him throw his card toward the statue's mouth. "I won't let their dreams come true!" He bellowed, "Even if I have to sacrifice myself! And even if I have to destroy this world!" Before his body dispersed into chakra, he swiftly formed a set of hand seals. His body liquified into blue chakra and was devoured by the monster. The appetite of the demonic statue was satisfied as it began to roar and stomp its feet, crushing the earth beneath it. It wouldn't calm nor would it rest as it crashed through the trees about. The sound of its roar rose the hairs on my back and pierced easily through my eardrums. After a few moments, the monster positioned himself on the ground, directing his head toward the sky, as darkness commenced to form slight above his mouth.

Then suddenly, the dark chakra shot out of its mouth like a cannon piercing through the sky, forcing the cosmos to rearrange.

The higher the chakra release, the faster the attraction between our worlds. That was Madara's plan all along... to accelerate the attraction of our world to this one.

"Damn you Madara!" I cursed him.

I felt myself in a panic, but I forced myself to breath and calm. If I was to strike the monster, it will likely aim its cannon at me and destroy quite a large portion of this world. That might cause on awful shift in the earth's gravitational pull and may cause this world to plummet into the sun or space.

However... I bit my lip in frustration... I might be able to attempt something different.

Quickly, I jumped onto the statue's shoulder. I was careful to remain hidden and light on my feet. It would cause quite a mess if he sensed me. Gradually, I stood above the monster's eyes. The swirl of my sharingan caught its attention. It was a mindless beast, however, I was capable of taming it and forcing it into a deep slumber. It's mouth fell closed as the monster tipped to the side and fell with a loud crash. I was breathing heavy now and I couldn't help the depletion of chakra that I felt. This monster was vast and large, and required a lot from me to stop it, but yet I was not finished. Susano'o rose around me as I plunged the Totsuka into the statue. Susano'o vanished as I felt on my knees panting. The monster remained on the ground as I was unable to absorb him. This was not good, I thought. From my pouch, I grabbed a set of food pills and devoured them quickly. Now I was capable of absorbing him. Sweat poured down my face as I reactivated Susano'o. This time I will take that monster with me.

The Totsuke blade pierced the monster's abdomen and commenced to absorb him. The demonic statue did not cause any commotion as it continued to slumber within my genjutsu. Soon, as the last of the statue disappeared, cards fluttered in the air. In fear of a heaping wind to commence, I caught them. In my grasp, now I held Konan, Pain, Zetsu, Deidara, Hidan, Kisame, and Madara's cards. "I wanted to save you", I called to them. But it was clear that they were unable to hear me... However I couldn't afford to waste another moment.

"Amaterasu." I bid my goodbyes as the flames burnt their cards mercilessly. The smoke that rose was refreshing to see. It signaled the end of a war.

Now I watched the sky as the atmosphere darken into a depressed state. The earth commenced to rumble and the sky commenced to roar. The wind howled loud as it threw leafs out of the trees. The sky reddened a deep crimson red and the moon grew into a cherry colored eclipse. The ground beneath me cracked and the dirt shook around. "Thirty minutes", I estimated the time I had left before the collision of our worlds. My hands began to sweat and my mouth felt dry. Twenty nine minutes left.

I heard footsteps approach from behind and, as I turned, a fist collided with my jaw. "You killed her!" A man yelled at me.

A woman fell to the ground where Nora's body laid, held it dearly, and wept. "My girl! My baby girl!" The tears fell from her face and onto Nora's cheek as she embraced her limp body in her arms. Another girl fell beside her mother's side and a boy stood in angered tears beside his father.

"I saw you kill her!" The child yelled accusingly, "I'm going to kill you now!"

Shock ran throughout my body in rippling motions. There was no possible way they could have been alive this whole time. "How are you even alive?" I asked aloud, astonished. "Weren't you turned into puppets?!" They flinched at my comment.

Her father threw another fist at me. I allowed it to collide, hoping it would be enough to calm him down. I fell back on the ground.

"How dare you?!" His face was pale and frightened. I pitied him as he shook in the memories of his moments with Sasori.

The way their bodies winced at the word 'puppet' only proved to me that they were once wooden... "Could it be...?!" Could it be that once we fade our actions were erased and the damage, we had done, would be reversed?! Was that possible?! That would mean that my death would bring back life to all my victims!

I stood again and activated my sharingan. Gazing into her father's eyes, I forced him to relax and speak.

"I was the first to be turned into a puppet and I was the first who turned back. I don't know what happened, but only moments ago we found ourselves human again. He didn't have any control over us so we tried to escape until we heard the commotion."

The little boy was now hitting me with his fists, "Let him go!" He yelled at me with force. I released his father from the fog of my genjutsu... So my hypothesis was true.

"Nineteen minutes", I noted to them, "You have nineteen minutes before my world and your world collide and turn to dust." The fear caught them, and soon, they sat by Nora's body and held onto each other hopelessly. They wanted to die as a family, completed by each other's presence. Slightly, I could feel myself envy them.

On the other hand, I sat near them with my head bowing down in respect. "I'm sorry", I began, "for hurting your family. I am sorry for controlling you without your permission. And I am sorry for taking Nora's life away. Please do forgive me if you have the heart to, but if you don't then I will live on with the guilt of a broken promise." There was no need for them to forgive me, however, my apology was attempting to provide them with closure. I require their assistance in this dire situation.

"You're forgiven", my head shot up in surprise. I never expected to be forgiven. It was her mother who spoke. "We saw you when you tried to protect her from the man with red hair... But we also saw you when you killed her..." Her eyes began to water. "I want to blame you for her death but we all saw her jump in your way. We saw her protect that child", her eyes began to rain. "It's not your fault she died, but I want to blame you quite desperately!"

Blaming me would have only given her a place to direct all her emotions. The hate and misery would be easier to subdue if their was a person to blame for it. The rest of her family appeared to share her thoughts and feelings. They looked like shadows in the sun as their faces eclipse with sorrow.

"I promise I'll bring her back" I told her. "But I need your help to accomplish this."

"How?" they all wondered.

It would have been delightful to enlighten them, however, there was no longer an opportunity to digress. "Please don't ask. We are running out of time."

All of them stood together in preparation. "What do you want us to do?!"

They now sounded hasty, which was perfect at the moment. A gentle smile was all I could provide them for reassurance. "First, I would like you and you to burn the books in the vault that Madara built", I pointed at her parents, "As for you two children, I need you to stay here with your sister. I'll be back to help out once I have delivered your parents to their destination." There were no arguments, only agreements as we all fought against the clock. I assisted Nora's parents to their location. When we reached the vault, to my surprise, it was open. As we pushed aside the metal door, a set of people were working on burning the books already. There were very few piles of books that remained.

"Are you going to burn anything with us?!" The mother questioned.

"No", I replied simply, "Anything I will burn will return once I die. There is no point in me helping out."

"Thank you", he mother told me before they ran inside to assist in the burning. It felt as if she understood my motives and pitied them.

As I turned to leave, I listened to the burning of the books. I wasn't too surprised to feel an absence of pain as the books burnt. Madara didn't want me in his world, after all, so I suppose he didn't write me in any of them. However, his mask was quite effective in hiding his pain. Quite the ninja, I thought.

"Itachi?!" A familiar voice called.

I smiled when I turned to see the Captain and the Doc running toward me. "I thought you were massacred along with the rest of the people."

"Well hello to you too!" The Doc exclaimed.

The Captain bit his lip, "Well, we would have been if we didn't go out looking for you that day", his hands were positioned on his hips as if he were preparing to scold me.

"He's a father before a captain", the Doc explained with a nudge.

I bit the inside of my cheek. They were acting like I was an important part of their family. I've become quite attached to them as well. So it was hard to just let them go... but I knew I had to.

"This is the last book Captain!" A man yelled.

"Then burn it! What are you waiting for?!" The Captain yelled back. He saw the wonderment in my eyes then he explained, "We ended up meeting with another Resistance base. We came here to help."

I nodded. If I wasn't running out of time, I would have wished to stand there forever. "I have to go..." I looked dejectedly at the ground.

"We're never going to see you again are we son?" The Doc placed his hand on my shoulder.

"No. This is it."

"The end of the road, huh?", the Captain gazed at the ceiling then back at me.

I closed my eyes, just wanting to accept this moment when I felt my body being embraced. "Don't look down child, you are a hero and we'll never forget you."

"Doc..."

"And even if we don't see each other again, that doesn't mean a handsome man like you doesn't have a bright future ahead of him."

"Captain..."

"We'll rewrite the stories just the way you wish them to be. Now stop frowning! It's unhealthy! You might get wrinkles! Then what will the pretty ladies think?"

I felt something fall from my eyes. I wiped it away quickly. "I want the stories to be written just the way they were. I don't want any of our stories to change no matter what."

"That's a promise boy! Man's code of honor."

Before I walked away from them, I turned toward the Doc. "Hey Doc... Do you mind making me another promise?"

"Of course not son. What is it?"

"I don't have much time to explain. Just come with me. And Captain", I redirected my voice toward the large man behind me, "I might need you to hide a few people for a while longer."

Without another word we were off. We were back where Nora and her siblings sat.

"My god!" The Doc yelled horrified. "I can't help her in this state!"

"I know", I informed him, "But I could."

A shiver curled its way within me as sorrow filled the Doc's eyes. The feeling gripped me too. "You want me to care of her once you're gone...", he said and I felt the pain increase.

There was no need to exchange an answer. Only four minutes remained. I gave the little boy the paper Sasuke drew of me... the paper I was summoned with. "You can take revenge on me because I hurt your sister."

The boy looked at me in awe. "But I don't want to kill you! I was mad at that moment! I can't do this!" His words reminded me of Sasuke.

"I won't die", I informed him, "I will be sent back home to my family and you will be considered a hero... You must burn it now or we'll all die." The severity of my voice got him shaking and he burnt the page.

This pain was different. It felt like a loss I will never rekindle nor remember. "Now", I seethed through my teeth, "The cards I burnt previously will appear. You must burn them as quick as possible!" I commenced to yell.

As I finished speaking, the sword that was stationed within Nora vanished, and I fell to my knees.

Nora's parents arrive in time to see her breath. There was a sense of joy within me as I watched her family surrounded her. Her breathing remained unstable when she spotted her family, but I could tell she was astonished. "Am I dead or am I dreaming?!"

"You're alive baby", her mother began kissing her, while her father fixed her hair.

"Mom! Dad!"

Her image was now hidden behind the people who cared for her. That was enough for me to know that she will be alright. Now it was time for me to go back home...To be with my family and Sasuke.

"Just wait till they calm down and realize what you did! You'll be in so much trouble!" He younger brother noted in amusement.

"Eric!" Nora's voice was panicky.

"He's right you know." Her sister agreed.

"Sabrina!" A sudden silence caught her. "Wait! What happened to Sasuke?! Where is Itachi?!"

They moved aside for her to see me clearly. The storm in her eyes was clear.

"You're dying..." She pushed her way past her parents as she stood to near me. "Why are you dying? And where is Sasuke?"

Looking into my eyes, she saw the sadness that had engulfed me.

"You didn't! Please tell me you didn't!" Attempting to shake me, her hands past through me as I commenced to fade. Before she was able to speak again, my world made contact with hers. They flinched as my world fell like a curtain from the sky. The people of my world were faded as they walked on their soil. It was an image from the movies as the ghosts of my world were walking about in the living world.

"What was that?"

"My world." I explain.

"So Madara..." her head fell.

"He's dead."

She was shocked. "So what's happening?!"

"My world is only passing through now. Nothing binds us to your world anymore."

"Itachi... what did you do!" She sounded severely upset.

"What I had to", I answered sternly, "One of us had the chance to survive, so I took it... Promised me that you will help rewrite my story."

"I'll help whoever wants to help", she mumbled distantly. "It's the least I could do."

"Then you will rewrite it just the way it was written the first time."

"Yes." She approved gradually with doubt running in the back of her mind. "I shouldn't mess with other's lives." She concluded.

"Thank you Nora."

"Don't get me wrong, Itachi. I am upset that you're leaving but I think Pain was right... Pain does teach the world to grow up... and so does death..." She shivered.

"Yes, I suppose so."

"I won't see you again, will I?"

"For now, my road ends here until my story is rewritten, however, you should be thinking about yourself. Your road is not over."

Unconsciously, she hugged herself. "I really hate it when you say things like that... I get all itchy and fidgety and stuff..."

"Good, that means you know that your path is of great importance... You have choices to make now, Nora, that will impact everyone everywhere. Everyone at the moment is stunned by my world's passing so you only have very little time to think."

"What are my choices?"

"Your first choice is to expose the Supervisor. That person has been hurting too many people in secret. He has been sending the sick to islands where they must fend for themselves against monsters and nature. He's also been taking prisoners and turning them into cyborgs preparing for any uprising. You must stop him before things get too serious. Now, though, you must decide on a time. Either you expose him now or you run and hide with your family and attempt to expose him later. Think quickly."

"You're not going to tell me what to do?!"

"No, my road is over. Now is your road. You have two forks in the road at the moment so which direction are you going to move?"

"No hints?"

"No hints."

She played with her hands as she thought. She only had about twenty three minutes before my world completely disappeared.

"I think I need to get my family as far away as possible from here. That's my decision."

I wanted to hear her explanation. "Why did you choose that path?"

"If I expose the supervisor now, people aren't going to trust me! They're going to think that Madara still had his spell on me and then I will be killed along with my family. That will hurt you too Itachi... I won't be able to help rewrite your world... Everyone would lose until somebody else tries to overthrow the Supervisor."

Her thoughts had matured. At our very last moment, I was quite proud of her. There as a difference in her that was caused by my existence. I suppose stories are truly magical things... "You truly have matured Nora", I couldn't help but praise her.

A wild blush ran through her cheeks. "So this is goodbye."

"Yes it is. You must leave and hide before anyone begins to pay attention to you."

She nodded. "I'm sorry for everything Itachi. I promise I will never do any of this again! I will make sure that you will be with your family."

"And if you summon me again?" I questioned.

"Then you have every right to kill me. That's a promise", she cheered. Even with her cheery attitude, I saw through her facade. She was upset that we weren't going to meet again. Yet, we both knew this was how it was meant to be.

No later, the Captain arrived with a helicopter.

"It's time to go Nora", her father called to her.

Her hair fluttered in the air as it wiped vigorously against her face. She turned away from me and her shoulders began to shake. "This might be my only time to say this... I feel like I am losing a brother Itachi. So know this, I will always love you as one."

Epilogue:

"It took quite a while to reach our destination that day. But once we reached it, we ran from the helicopter and we began to fake our deaths. We torn from our clothes pieces with blood stains. We smeared some blood on the ground and tried to get blood on the wild beasts here in Hawaii."

"Wow! And then what happened?!" A child ask.

"Then the government copters and troopers came here and searched the grounds. Nobody was found other than our bloodstained clothes and smeared blood on the animals. They thought we were dead."

"But you weren't were you?!" Another child asked.

"Of course she wasn't, she's right here!" A girl expressed her frustration.

"Don't make fun of her! You now she could be slow at times!" Another defended.

"Children please", I tried to calm them down, "We didn't die, we hid in the mud with very little to breath. That moment was one of the scariest moments of my life. In the end, they left, but every now and then the same copters come scouting from the skies. That is why we have bases now. We are always being careful not to get spotted."

"Is that why you make sure to feed the animals? So we don't get discovered?!"

"Yes. You're very clever. If the animals die from starvation then we will be discovered. They will know that the animals aren't eating us. Then they will start investigating again."

"What was the name of that man again? The one who helped you."

"There were many who helped me, But I think I know who you are talking about", I told a little girl with a wink, "His name was Itachi Uchiha. He was...", I had to think of the correct words I would describe him as, "sort of like a big brother to me. And I loved him very much."

"It's sad that he is gone."

"Oh no, he's not gone..." I drawled lowly, "He's always here keeping me strong and telling me to keep moving forward... Now go on and do some extra studying. It will help you later on." I dismissed the children as the tender wounds began to open yet again. I held out my notebook and began to write.

Dear Itachi,

I learned that it wasn't in my time that the Supervisor was to fall. I learned quite a bit from you. It was patience that I needed to accept. It is now my duty to care for the sick who are disposed of at the islands. I know that their numbers and their natures will be what unites them against the Supervisor, but this is a little hard on us all. It's hard for them to accept themselves... I know... It sounds a bit like me. But they will cause an uproar and they will be the ones to win. I believe that their family members will be quite upset to hear of the conditions their 'sick' members had to live in and survive! But until that day comes, my job is to nurture and care for them.

As for the story of Naruto... Everything is going well. At this rate, we might be able to complete the first few battles between Naruto and Gaara. You still aren't in the story really... not yet... That's kind of how I know this letter will reach you.

Thank you for everything Itachi,

Nora

Author's Note: If you made it all the way down here... how do you feel after you read the ending? Sorry if any of it did not please you. I worked really hard on this chapter so please take some time to tell me what you thought. It's sad that it is the ending but I have to say THANK YOU FOR READING!
