Back from a much needed weekend with my family. Minus the snow that plagued me at the start of my journey, it was extremely relaxing. Now I'm back in the grind and have started what is going to be a very long work week. I hope to have the next installment up by the weekend. Thanks to all of you that have reviewed! I'm glad so many of you are reading my story. I promise more will be revealed as I continue. I love knowing that people have different ideas on how this will play out! Hope you all have a wonderful week.
"Do we have to listen to this?" I glanced over to the passenger side of the car, we had opted to drive ourselves today, giving Matthew the afternoon off. Phoebe was grinning widely as she sung along with the current playlist. She smiled wider and her voice raised as the current song continued.
"Boys only want love if it's torture. Don't say I didn't say, I didn't warn ya!" Phoebe shouted the lyrics in my face. I sighed. "Is that true, Teddy?" She stopped singing to stare at me, even pausing the music. I glanced over at her, my eyes hidden by my Ray Ban's.
"Is what true, Phebs? Is Taylor Swift annoying as hell? Why yes, yes she is." I gave my sister a smile and turned my focus back to the road. She swatted at me.
"No T, the lyrics. What she said. Do you only want it if it's rough and difficult? Is that why you're still single?" I groaned.
"Is THIS what lunch is about? To try to figure me out?" I shook my head. "Everyone else bothers me about it, I didn't expect it from you, P." I set my jaw and focused on the road, listening to the engine of my R8 as I gave it a bit more gas, causing me to have to shift gears.
"Way to be temperamental Teddy…" I could feel her roll her eyes. "It was just a question. I have no underlying motives. But since you brought it up…" I gave a stern shake of my head.
"No. I will not discuss my personal life with you." Not anymore, I added silently. Phoebe groaned.
"You never had a problem with sharing before." She muttered, with her head turned toward the window.
"You were never so nosey before." I spoke calmly, but underneath she was frustrating me to no end. A silence passed over us.
"If you were in trouble, you'd tell me right?" She didn't look at me, and barely spoke above a whisper. I laughed off her doubt.
"Me? In trouble? Phebs, I have the world on a string." I gave her a smirk as I turned on Ole Blue Eyes and killed Taylor Swift and her question provoking lyrics. As soon as I changed the music I realized we had reached the restaurant.
"You having it all isn't what concerns me. It's what you don't have that worries me. Everyone needs someone Teddy. Everyone needs to let their guard down once in a while." I felt her hand touch my shoulder and I quickly shook it off.
"Don't." The sternness of my voice surprised me, but it didn't make me change my tune. "Don't touch me." Phoebe was diving far too deep into my life for my liking. I looked at my knuckles, nearly white as I gripped the steering wheel.
"Fine, just take me back to your apartment. I've lost my appetite." Phoebe sounded irritated. I shook my head and released the death grip I had.
"No, you need to eat and I'm starving. Get out of the car." I knew I didn't have a soft tone to my voice, and there didn't seem to be anything I could do to change it. Phoebe refused to move. "Get out of the car, or sit here while I go eat. The choice is yours Phoebe." She exhaled loudly, but unbuckled her seatbelt.
"No need to be so pushy, getting all Mr. Grey on me." She glared at me. "You need to check your attitude. I know you better than that. Whenever you want to talk about whatever it is, I'm here." I refused to respond, instead opening my door and getting out of the car. My cell vibrated from my pocket. Taking a deep breath I pulled it out as I locked the car and glanced at the new text message.
Lynsey Franklin: Lunch at Duke's at I wasn't invited? That is plain rude Mr. Grey.
I glanced around and didn't see her anywhere, but my stomach instantly knotted up. Running a hand through my hair, I felt Phoebe staring at me.
"Are you sure you're up for this?" She eyed me skeptically. I shook off the nervousness I was feeling. Phoebe was already aware I was off, I didn't want to her to know just how off I was. Plastering a smile on my face, I guided her to the door.
"You promised me clam chowder. I'm getting what I deserve." She smiled a small smile. "I'm sorry for being an ass. It won't happen again." Shaking her head she turned to me as the waitress made her way towards us.
"Oh, believe me Theodore, it will happen again, it always does with you. So damn mercurial. A totally clone of Daddy, in looks and attitude. Maybe Grey Enterprises has been the first to clone humans…" She giggled. "It makes perfect sense, don't you think?" My phone vibrated again.
Lynsey: And reading and failing to respond is also rude Mr. Grey.
I looked around again before quickly typing a response.
It's over. Like I said, one night and one night only.
Within seconds my phone vibrated again.
Lynsey: It's over when I say it's over. I'll let you have your lunch, but make no dinner plans.
