Author's notes: Just a little one-shot I came up with.
Update: December 27th 2012
Rewritten slightly, I wasn't happy with some of the ending paragraphs.

Ethan had been victorious, now he'd have another badge under his belt and be on his way to Ecruteak city.
That was the plan anyway...
"Waaaaah! Waaaaah! You meanie! Waaaaaaaaaah!"
Ethan flinched. What was this all about? He'd only won the match and this girl had broken into tears! "What do I do? What do I do? What do I do!?"
Besides him his Quilava was just as confused as he was. Ethan was on his own for this one. He crossed his arms, closing his eyes...now what were you supposed to do when a girl was upset?
Wait, his mother said something about that...
He remembered when he was eight he'd sat at the table, and the topic had arrived at Ethan mentioning he tried to cheer a friend up. He'd asked how his Dad cheered his Mom up.
"Whenever I'm upset your dad kisses me." She'd started blushing. "I always feel so much better."
The younger Ethan had only nodded. Now he was glad he'd asked, but kissing did seem kinda strange..."What's the worst that could happen?" Nodding in resolution, he'd decided to take the plunge. He'd stepped forward, a crying Whitney not even noticing him as he stood before her. Only when he'd grasped her shoulders did she notice.
Just in time for his lips to press against hers.
They'd both stood there for what was likely longer than normal. Whitney too stunned to do anything, Ethan not sure how long he should keep it up. Eventually deciding he'd been latched on long enough (she seemed to have stopped crying), he'd pulled away, expecting to see a happier Whitney looking back at him. "Oh crap."
That was not happy. That was stunned. Sooner or later she was going to snap out of it, and Ethan had no idea how she'd choose to react.
Suddenly he couldn't shake the feeling that this had been a bad idea.
He gulped down a lump in his throat. He had to think fast, real fast. Any second now Whitney was going to get her senses back, and he didn't want to imagine what a girl did when she didn't like being-"RUN!"
He'd run quick as a flash, a confused Quilava rushing after him. They'd cleared the door in seconds, leaving Whitney still standing there, blinking in confusion. "What the..." Well that had never happened before. She couldn't help but wonder why he'd ran off like that. Oh well, he'd have to come back for his badge sometime.
She smiled.
