A/N- this is the last chapter of this story and now it is complete. I couldn't see the story going anywhere past this chapter, so I gave it a happy ending; I like all stories to have happy endings. It will make you happy to know that I am working on another story and I have ideas for a lot more. I hope to maybe post the new story sometime next month. Sorry this was late, but a lot of personal family problems and stress going on, but I will try to post more and often.
Chapter 29
That Night
Sarah was sitting on the bed in a daze, when Jareth came in from the bathroom. He walked over to her and sat down next to her holding her hand.
Sarah looked up at him smiling.
"Are you okay?" he asked her, his voice full of concern.
"Fine" Sarah replied.
Jareth could tell by the tone of her voice that she was not fine; he was starting to get worried. He grabbed her by her shoulders to gently turn her to face him "Sarah, you are not fine, please tell me what is bothering you?"
"It's just a shock that finally Rupert is out of our lives" she told him.
"I know my dear" Jareth said and he hugged her close to him and kissed the top of her head, "come on let's get to sleep"
Jareth and Sarah climbed into bed and fell asleep in each other's arms.
A person was in a dark room pacing back and forth talking to themselves it was hard to make out what they were saying; it was mumbled and spoken too fast.
"Is everything okay here?" a male voice asked.
"No, everything is not okay" the person spoke.
The man took a deep sigh of annoyance and said "what happened this time miss Claire"
"WHAT HAPPENED!" she shouted at him than walked up to him so she was close to him and said more calmer "what happened, is that the love of my life is dead"
"I'm sorry" he told her.
"Well just take care of this place while I am gone" Claire told him as she was walking out the door.
"May I ask where you are going" the man asked.
Claire huffed and turned around and tells him "you are just the help, I don't answer to you" and she walked out the room.
"Bitch" the man whispered.
The Next Day
Since Jareth had business to tend too and the baby was sleeping. Sarah decided to spend some time in the garden with her friend Hoggle. They were both sitting on the bench talking, Sarah seemed confident and happy to be outside, while Hoggle seemed scared and kept looking around.
"Are you sure it is safe out here?" Hoggle asked scared.
"Yes Hoggle we are perfectly safe" Sarah said.
"For now" a voice said as the person in a black cape and hood came out of the bushes.
Sarah and Hoggle both stood up, the goblins started to surround them with their swords pointing at the person.
"Stand down" Sarah said.
At first the goblins were resisting then finally listened to their queen then put the swords down. Sarah started to walk to the person.
"Sarah I don't think you should go towards that person" Hoggle said cowardly.
"It's okay Hoggle" Sarah told him.
"Who are you? And what do you want?" Sarah asked calmly.
The person took there hood off.
Sarah gasped in surprise and said "Claire"
"I want to know why you let Rupert get killed." Claire asked sadly.
"He had to pay for his crimes" Sarah tells her.
"Maybe so but death" Claire said.
"It's what they wanted, I had no control over it" Sarah tells her sadly.
Claire started to get angry "but I saw all of you, you were all happy that he was dead"
"I was more relieved than happy" Sarah says.
"I still think you should pay for this" Claire said clearly getting upset and angry.
Sarah tried to remain calm and said "by hurting people because you're upset is not the answer" Sarah looked at Claire who was crying then she continued to say "I am sorry, you have to go through this. I know you loved him" she said as Claire wiped her eyes then she said "I know if something happened to Jareth, I would act like you are now, but I also know that would not bring him back"
Claire started to cry harder, Sarah put her arm around Claire and walked over to the bench the sat down and Claire continued to cry in Sarah's arms.
"What's going on here" a voice said.
Sarah looked behind her and saw Jareth standing there his hands on his hips and not looking very happy.
"I am comforting someone who is very upset" Sarah told him.
"Hoggle told me you were in trouble" Jareth told her.
Sarah saw Hoggle hiding behind Jareth's legs peeking out at her; Sarah didn't say anything she just gave him a stern look, Hoggle looked down sadly.
Jareth and Hoggle walked away but stayed close incase Sarah needed them, they didn't trust Claire.
Claire looked at Sarah wiping her eyes; Sarah smiled at her and said "if you ever need a friend, I am here for you"
"That is very kind of you" Claire replied.
Sarah hugged her, then Claire waved goodbye and left while mumbling to herself "why did she have to be so nice"
Claire left the kingdom and went to go somewhere in the underground to start a new life for herself and move on from the pain, she occasionally writes to Sarah and tells her everything that she is doing and everything going on in her life.
After everything that happened with Rupert, the Underground became quiet and peaceful.
Years later Sarah got another letter from Claire telling her that she met this amazing man and they fell in love and decided to get married, but just wanted it to be them, she described it saying it was more beautiful that she could ever imagine and that she was also expecting her first child. Sarah smiled at that because she was happy for Claire she was finally getting her life together and forgetting about all the pain that Rupert caused her and everyone.
Jareth and Sarah took over for his grandparents as high King and Queen, his grandparents retired and just enjoyed like with each other and their family.
Toby and Helena did get married, but did not have kids right away, they wanted to wait, and they were young yet and had plenty of time. Toby did get his dream of becoming Goblin King, since according to Jareth it was his plan all along to make Toby the next Goblin King, because he was always the next in line for it.
