~ Hi everyone! What do you think so far? I apologize for the absence. I had a lot of family and personal issues to deal with and this got pushed to the back burner. Please let me know if there are any suggestions for memories to write about. ALSO I have plotted out the chapters and there is about 11 more chapters left to do for this one. I'm gonna say it is going to be longer then I expected. I do not own Harry Potter. This has not been betaed. All mistakes are my fault. WARNING! I am horrid at spelling so I apologize for that. Enjoy!

Sirius Black sat down at a table in the library next to Severus Snape with a huff.

"I don't think I can take anymore mushy mushy crap!" the young woman exclaimed placing her head in her hands. She let out a groan.

"You were trying to get them together if you remember correctly." reminded Severus Snape annoyed.

"Don't remind me." mutter an irritated Sirius.

Sirius dropped her arms and forehead to the table dramatically. The whole situation was a bit too much for her at times. The moment Lily shows interest, James decides to "give her space" because he was starting to think she would never love him back, blah blah blah. It was infuriating! And now, NOW, that they are together, they are so sweet it made the dark haired girl sick to her stomach.

Sirius remembered back about two months ago. She had been at her wits end with the two. Lily had finally seemed to tolerate the boy, maybe even like him as a person. Seems his overly emotional display this summer that had could been a disaster had they let him go and attack her family regardless that it may have been warranted, had warmed Lily up to the idea that James wasn't a complete arse. James had confessed to having doubts that Lily would have him ever early one morning. Sirius wanted to scream. Why drag her into this if he was going to give up? The boy had just started to calm himself around the girl. He wasn't even moping about it. He's just been quiet and a bit sad. His smiles weren't the same.

Sirius had decided to plot rather than yell at her friend. Besides, she had tried yelling. It just resulted in a hurt puppy look and more moping.

So she tried a new strategy. The, "hey I'm kindhearted and love children" thing. The black haired girl managed to get most of the upper years out of the common room except James. Sirius sat herself beside a first year who was working on some transfiguration homework. She then waited until Lily came through the door. Lily sat down on the other side of the common room. Sirius then quietly coxed the first year to go ask James about the essay she was having problems with. Sirius watched as the girl timidly walked over to James and ask him about her homework. James had looked up surprised but had smiled and helped her write the essay.

Sirius had watched Lily. The redhead had looked up and saw the interaction. She seemed to take note and watch the two for a moment before returning to her own homework.

Sirius had repeated this tactic several times in various situations. Lily seemed to take notice but not really respond to it. That hadn't worked.

Sirius then took up plotting with Remus and Peter on helping her to set the two up to have to work together when they did partner work in classes. It appeared to start off a bit rocky but a couple weeks in the two seemed to work together well. Lily stopped threatening to hex James and James was able to not say something that made an arse of himself each time he opened his mouth. Alas, it soon became clear that it wasn't going to get better than comfortable conversation. Merlin it had gotten difficult, but a promise was a promise.

Sirius even tried convincing both of them to ask the other one to hang out during the Halloween Hogsmeade trip. It ended up as awkward silence the entire time as Lily refused to go if Sirius didn't come along. The black haired girl now understood Alice's phase 'being the third wheel'.

About the time Sirius was going to give up, Lily and James were all of a sudden eating meals together and laughing as they talked. She hadn't been there to see what changed. Maybe all they needed was alone time. Who would have known?

Sirius shook her head and was brought back to the present.

Sirius's grey eyes swirled with frustration as she looked at Severus.

Severus Snape was reading a book, pointedly ignoring her.

Sirius grinned, picked up her head, placed her left arm on the table so that her hand dangled off the edge and put her right hand on her hip.

"So what about you?" asked Sirius raising an eyebrow.

Not looking up from his book Severus replied "What about me?"

"Do you have anyone in mind? Any current or previous crushes? Anyone showing interest perhaps?" Sirius gave her friend a sly smile.

Severus shot her a glare, turned a page in his book, and went back to reading.

"Oh come on Snape, we're friend right? Friends talk about this sort of thing." Sirius winned.

"What makes you think anyone would be interested?" replied the dark eyed boy who was obviously avoiding her question.

Sirius pondered a moment and then answered "Well, you've got the whole tall, dark and mysterious thing going for you. And you're intelligent, that's worth quite a bit in my book."

Severus snorted.

"Come on, you can't tell me you've never been interested in someone." pressed Sirius

Severus went back to ignoring the black haired girl and reading his book.

"I'm going to take that as you do or did."

No response.

"Are you going to tell me or do I have to start guessing?" the dark haired girl threatened

Still no response. Well she was going to have to make good on her threat. She took in a breath.

"Alice?"

No response.

"Judith?"

Still nothing.

"Audrey? Rosmerta?"

"Have I even got the right gender?" asked Sirius, trying to get a response.

"Yes Sirius, I like girls."

"Just checking."

"Alright, on with the list."

"Lily Evans." Severus spoke.

"See, now that wasn't that hard…oh….ohhhh." Suddenly several interactions when they were younger made sense. Like every time Severus got defensive over Lily. Or the whole reason for James and Severus disliking each other. Past the Gryffindor vs. Slytherin thing. How in the hell had she missed this? And she'd help set up James and Lily. She was a terrible friend. Good friends don't pick sides and should be able to pick up on crushes. Oh Merlin Severus probably hated her now, and after helping her this summer and everything.

"Black." Sirius was grabbed by the arm and shook.

"Stop hyperventilating this instant."

"Sorry."

"Breath Black."

"Ok...Severus.."

"Stop there, I already told you I don't do pity. I don't give it and I don't take it."

"But…"

"Look, Lily and I already talked about it."

"Really? When." She missed this too?

"Shortly after the time you beat Potter black and blue. It may have come up in an argument." replied Severus who seemed to not want to make privy the details.

"Argument about what?" She had missed this argument. She was really starting to doubt her observation skills. Maybe this is why she wasn't sorted into slytherin.

Severus let out a loud sigh "Because I may have made a comment about not needing girls to come to my rescue."

Sirius scowled at her friend

"I had just been publicly humiliated and my crush was one of the people who saved me." defended Severus Snape.

"Yes and we all know how you are about keeping your cool." responded Sirius.

This time Severus scowled at Sirius.

"So what did she say" Sirius asked, trying to redirect the conversation.

"You are really persistent on this."

"You can't tell me part of the story and not the rest." explained Sirius, like it was the most obvious thing.

Severus let out a loud sigh, "Basically she said she didn't see me that way, that we were better off just friends."

"Wow. There was no, maybe let's give it a year and see if I could see me with you or anything?"

"No."

"That's rough."

There was no response as Severus went back to his book.

"So you're still hung up on her."

"I never said that."

"You never said different either." Countered the dark haired girl.

"What about you? You ever approach anyone?" Severus countered back.

Sirius was a bit surprised but just smiled.

"Oh sure. Thomas Archbold just last Tuesday." replied Sirius nonchalantly.

Severus raised an eyebrow "And how did that go?"

Sirius cleared her throat and went into her storytelling position, "Well, you see the boy is beautiful. Perfect blue eyes, brilliant blond hair with a gentle wave, and a smile to make angels jealous. I first laid eyes on this creature during double charms with hufflepuff. Then one sunny summer morning..."

"Sirius, its the beginning of October and you like hufflepuffs?"

"Severus, it's rude to interrupt." replied the girl, ignoring his comment.

Severus snorted but didn't say anything more.

"Like I was saying, one delightfully chilly autumn morning, there was a breeze running through the changing kaleidoscope of colors on the trees..."

"Is this going to be nauseating the entire conversation."

"It's just going to get worse the more you interrupt."

"Do continue."

"I approached the beautiful young man after having double charms with him. I introduced myself, he smiled and all seemed right in the world."

"I feel a butt happening."

Sirius nodded and continued.

"But then he uttered what I suppose he thought was intelligent conversation."

"You know Black, sometimes people say stupid things when talking to someone they think is attractive."

"How observant of you Snape, but you see, the things he said makes me wonder if he ever had an original thought that sticks around long enough to develop or if they all just wisp around and then go on their merry way on out."

"That bad."

"Afraid so, it was worse than the time I tried to explaining arithmancy to Peter."

Snape winced "I see."

Neither of them really wanted to remember that disaster.

"Speaking of Peter, he still…"

"Still upset I won't go on a date with him? Yes he is."

"Would it be terrible to go on one date?"

"You mean other than the fact I want to murder him twenty seconds into intelligent conversations and the fact I am just not attracted to him romantically on any level?"

"Point taken."

Sirius looked at Severus.

"We should find you someone, could help you finish getting over Lily."

"I never said I still had a thing for Lily." Severus Snape insisted.

"Hey, I'm just trying to be helpful." defended Sirus.

Severus snorted and rolled his eyes.

"Well if you are going to be like that then I won't help you."

"Good."

"Good"

"Fine."

"Fine."

Sirius pushed Severus's book onto the floor and grinned at him.

Severus narrowed his eyes and pushed her bag from the table to the floor.

"Oh, it's on." declared Sirius

Sirius side tackled Severus out of his chair and began to try to tickle and poke him. Severus did his best to fight back, the two of them laughing louder and louder.

Ten minutes later found them with detentions and banned for a week from the library unless they had a note from a teacher.

Severus sighed and glared at Sirius.

"Why is it that every time it's just you and me, one or both of us are or end up in trouble?"

Sirius just smiled and said "It was totally worth it."

Severus glared at her and took off down the hallway.

Sirius barked out a laugh, "Glare all you want Severus Snape, it was worth the trouble."

"I suppose that's your reasoning behind everything you do. Whether the trouble you will get into is outweighed by what you get out of it." replied the dark eyed teen.

"Is there another way to live?" she asked.

A few weeks latter found Sirius, James, Remus, Peter, Lily and the other seventh year gryffindors in their common room having a meeting with their head of house. Evidently it was now time for them all to have the answers of what they were going to do with their lives. Sirius found this completely unfair. All this time the faculty was all like, they're just kids and all of a sudden, BOOM, there were adults and where to magically have their lives planned out. Sirius hadn't planned out what she was going to do after the meeting, or wear in the morning, or when she was going to do that History of Magic essay (bloody ghost), let alone know what she was going to do after school. Now that she thought about it, after the meeting would be a good time to do that essay. Or she could pull it out her arse like every other paper. He never graded past the first foot anyway. She knew because she tested it in fourth year. The first time had been a mistake. She had started it and written the first four paragraphs rather well if she did say so herself but had gotten distracted after that by a spur of the moment prank moment on Frank. The rest of the paper had been hurried and splurts of information that Sirius was sure made no sense whatsoever. She'd got an E on the darned thing. Every paper after that, she did the same thing with similar results.

"Miss Black." a sharp voice interrupted Sirius's musings.

"Yes ma'm?"

"Do me a favor and pay attention. This is important. Unless that is you don't find your future important."

"Sorry Professor."

"Like I was saying, There are many options for life after school. Many can be found in the Ministry of Magic. Anything from law, to politics, to foreign affairs, to magical creatures as well as a variety of offices dealing with a wide range of matters. Becoming a healer is also an option."

"Or an Auror! That's what I want to do." James spoke up.

"Mr. Potter."

"Sorry Professor."

"Many of you have been taking classes to support your career choices. At the beginning of the year I informed you that you would all have to have at least one career in mind for your seventh year project. I would like all of you to bring me piece of parchment by the end of the week with your choice or choices of profession. If any of you need some additional help with what to do after graduation or would just like to talk about it, feel free to visit me."

Their head of house left through the portrait and the room erupted into conversations of what everyone was planning after Hogwarts.

James leaned in toward Sirius and the gang all excited, "I'm going to be an Auror, just like my dad. Catch all the dark wizards and lock 'em up. All I have to do is apply after I graduate. I'm sure to get in so long as my NEWTs go well. Which I don't see why they wouldn't. What about you lot?"

Lily was the first to answer.

"I was thinking maybe a healer."

"You'd be good at that Lils."

"Thank you James. What about you Remus?"

"Oh, I don't know. Maybe I'll travel around a bit."

"Oh come on Remus, you're brilliant. You should be able to be whatever you want."

A look passed between Sirius and James. Evidently James hadn't told Lily about Remus being a werewolf or she didn't know about werewolf laws. She sent him a questioning look and opened her mouth but he shook his head. Sirius looked back to Remus who just smiled and shrugged at Lily.

"What about you Peter?" Lily asked the blond teen.

"I was thinking something in the Ministry, Office of International Magical Cooperation or something like that."

"And what about you Sirius?" Lily asked.

Sirius shrugged.

"You mean to say you don't have anything you want to do?" Lily looked concerned.

"No." Sirius

Sirius got looks from everybody.

"The only thing I had ever imagined myself doing was running away from home. I did that."

"You never imagined yourself being anything after you ran away?"

"I never quite got that far."

Sirius sighed. This was going to go just like her conversation with Remus the other day.

"Hey Pads. Sickle for your thoughts?"

Sirius was once again jolted out of her musings. Amber eyes met stormy blue.

"Moony! Oh, just thoughts on the future and what it holds."

"So philosophical today." teased Remus as he sat down beside her.

Sirius playfully punched the werewolf in the arm.

"I've been having trouble with such thoughts lately too." replied the young man with a sigh.

The black haired young woman turned to her friend. He was looking down at his feet. He looked over at her.

"So what's the problem Pads?"

"I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I don't really have tomorrow planed out, let alone next week, next month or even next year. I never had to worry about it before. That was my mother's job and I never was included in it."

"Isn't there anything you want to do?" asked Remus trying to be helpful.

"Be free, make my own choices, maybe fall in love."

"Those are all nice things Pads, but they aren't helping in figuring out a career choice." replied Sirius's friend.

"I know, I know." Sirius sighed.

"Well, you could always start with what you don't want to do. That would narrow it down at least." offered Remus.

"Yeah, like I would be fired in two day because of the stupid things I'd dream up to do at a desk job." joked Sirius.

"I wouldn't trust you around groups of small children." added Remus.

"And I'm rubbish at healing, some poor bloke would end up worse then he started." replied Sirius.

the two friends laughed.

"I could see you as a professional quidditch player."

"I could see you being Minister of Magic someday."

"Sirius"

"No, Mooney, I mean it." Sirius said sternly.

"Padfoot, they don't hire people like me into the ministry. They have us go get registered in case we get too...friendly with others." Remus replied darkly.

"Well, then we'll just go somewhere that will." stated Sirius.

"What just run away to another country?" asked Remus a bit taken aback.

"Would be better than staying here jobless. Think about it Moony. No death eaters, no he-who-must-not-be-named. I bet we could find something in America for you."

"It's a really nice sentiment Padfoot. I appreciate it." Remus told his friend.

A pause

"How about a writer? Or a journalist? Artist? You could be the next, what's his name? Picano?" offered Sirius.

"Picasso. No, I can't really draw or paint. I don't think any of those would be much better anyway, especially if i can't get published or sell my work."

'Yeah, I suppose so."

Another pause

"You really think I could go pro?" asks Sirius.

"Yeah. I mean, maybe not for Nationals, but I can see the Holyhead Harpies or the Chudley Cannons."

"I'll give you Chudley Cannons!"

Sirius had then done her best to push the werewolf out of his seat.

Sirius thought some more. What did she want with her life? She wanted to be happy. She knew she would have to do something that wasn't too pent up and stuffy and she really couldn't see herself being happy long term at something like working at a shop or restaurant.

"Well, I want something I could be ambitious with if I want to something I could move up in if I want, something that would be meaningful and worthwhile. Something that would do this world some good." Sirius stated.

"You could always look into being an Auror like I am. It fits all those things. Training can suck and there is some paperwork involved but after awhile you can go into different areas and do different things. May even be able to work in something with those runes you love so much. " James offered.

"I think it's a bad idea." spoke up Peter.

"Why?" asked James "If she does decided to go into it, we could be partners!"

"Girls should be Aurors. It's too dangerous." protested Peter.

"So you're saying that just because i'm a girl I won't be able to handle it." remarked Sirius offended.

"Well…"

"Well what? I'm not smart enough, not fit enough, I can't do strong enough magic? I don't do well enough in school? Or is being female a handicap?" Sirius insisted.

"That's not what I meant!" replied Peter defensively.

"What did you mean by it then?" asked Sirius.

"Just forget it!" Peter stood up and walked out of the room toward the boy's dormitory.

"Don't worry about him Sirius." said Lily, trying to calm the group down.

"What do you think about it Lily."

"Well, it is dangerous. You could look into it though, and talk to some people who have been Aurors for awhile. No one says you have to be one just because your senior project was about it."
