Ordinary People

10th Century

The village was peaceful just like it has always been, people doing their daily chores and kids running around the White Oak tree, the tallest tree and most praised gift that nature has given them, an ordinary day in the village.

Two little girls one around the age of ten, with long brown wavy hair, and hazel eyes while the younger one around eight, had golden hair tied in a braid, with blue eyes. They were walking side by side with some strange flowers, their mother asked them to bring. The older one Kira was able to identify what her mother; Esther was referring to while Rebekah was slowly starting to difference them.

"Kira, why is Kol an idiot?" Rebekah asked, taking Kira by surprise. She knew her twin brother was an idiot, all of her siblings knew and they were sure even little Henrik who was now six knew it. Kira laughed a bit, "I don't know maybe Mother dropped him when he was a baby" she replied to her sister imagining how her mother dropped Kol, wondering if it was on the grass or not.

"Rebekah, Kira" Elijah, their eldest brother called for the two girls to go back home. The girls trying not to drop the flowers, they picked up their dress skirts a bit and ran to their home. Entering the house they saw Klaus talking with Elijah that just sat down. Finn was helping Esther with some things and Kol was trying to explain something simple to Henrik. The two gave their Mother the flowers and sat on the table ready to eat. When Mikael entered the room, it went silent. Quietly they ate trying not to irritate their father.

Everyone ate, bathe and went to bed getting ready for tomorrow. Kira instantly fell asleep.

She saw herself even older than her brothers Elijah and Finn. The village in the dream was still the same only everything was older and taller; she kept walking towards the tree and placing her hand on the trunk to see how it felt until she heard someone call her. Turning around she saw a tall man that had some same features to that boy she met a few years ago named Brandr.

He came closer, and began to caress her cheek until his eyes changed from dark brown to yellow to the ones the wolf men had. Kira started to run away until she fell on the ground seeing a puddle of blood under her. She screamed and got up to see the once peaceful village burning to the ground, bodies dead on the floor, and the red was everywhere, it looked as if it had rained blood. She ran towards her house to see Kol biting into a girl's neck. "I was curious when you would arrive" Kol told his sister amused raising his face so she could see her brother with the face of a monster. His mouth dripping with the girl's blood.

Kira didn't know what to do, until she felt her gums and eyes hurt. She ran out of the house to the lake and saw her reflection on the water, she looked like a monster.

The nine ear old girl woke up sweating with tears in her eyes not knowing what to do, she wanted to tell Kol or Rebekah, even her mother, but they were all asleep. Slowly leaving her bed she quietly walked towards the room next door to be surprise that her mother was there chanting. It stopped once Esther felt her daughter's presence; opening her eyes she turned to see her daughter with tears on her eyes.

"Come here my daughter" Esther told her opening her arms. Kira didn't think it twice to hug her mother. "What happened to have you up at this hour?" the witch asked looking straight into the nine year old hazel eyes. The little girl described her nightmare and how she never wanted to see it again.

"I am sorry child, tomorrow we shall ask Ayana to see if she has a remedy for that" Esther assured her eldest daughter holding her close until the girl fell asleep.

Once the sun rose everybody was on their daily work. Esther woke up her daughter and took her to her mentor's home. The caramel colored witch was cleaning the wound of one of the men that hunted to sell at the market place when she saw her student and daughter enter her home.

Finished with the man, she dismissed him. "What is the reason you bring your daughter today?" Ayana asked putting away the herbs she used on the man. "Kira, can you explain the dream precisely as you told me last night" Esther requested. Kira nodded and told everything with much detail that it seemed like a memory rather than a dream, but since she said that all of them looked older it was most likely to be a premonition.

"Has anything else rather odd occurred to you child?" the witch asked with much curiosity in her eyes. Kira told them both about other dreams that came true and how a few times she lit up a candle without wanting to.

"Esther, you daughter has your gifts" Ayana informed the other woman rather pleased, Esther had a smile that one of her children could use magic. Kira was bored while the two women talked; she looked through the window to see Elijah picking up Henrik and Brandr heading towards the eldest and youngest Mikaelson.

"Mother, can I leave and look for Kol. I think he's going to get in trouble" Kira asked permission, but either way was going to disobey, she knew her twin well enough that every time Brandr was around since they met him under the White Oak Tree Kol had to be around to cause a mess. Esther nodded; Kira left.

"Elijah," Kira called as her eldest brother turned around. "What is it sister?" he asked putting Henrik down. "Have you seen Kol?"

"No, at least not after we all started our chores. Perhaps Finn or Niklaus have seen him" Elijah suggested, sad that he couldn't help his sister. "Thank you 'Lijah." she told him once she saw Brandr talking to another of the village boys. She waved goodbye and walked to the Chief's son.

"We shall talk later" the other boy said and left. "Hello, can I help you?" Brandr asked with a smile. "I was wondering if you've seen any other of my siblings rather than Elijah and Henrik" she asked when in reality that was not what she truly wanted to say, it was the only thing she managed to say without the fear of stuttering.

"I saw Finn if I am not mistaken, with a red haired girl heading to the river."

"Oh, thank you very much" Kira thanked and started walking away when she felt him wrap his arm around her wrist. "My father told me to invite your family for supper at my home. Will you inform Mikael?" Brandr requested. Kira nodded with a shy smile she walked back to her home rather than going to search for Finn and the red haired girl.

She arrived at her home and told her father about the invitation. Mikael had a serious look thinking if he should accept the request, until he accepted came to the agreement that they would, not because he wanted but rather the arrangement that he could probably make with the village chief, Rolf. Mikael told all of his family and they did as he ordered.

Rolf invited the Mikaelson household with open arms as if they've known each other for more years than what they truly have. The two families took a seat in each side of the table. You could see in all of their faces that they truly didn't want to be there. Kol and Brandr were killing each other with their dirty looks; Esther was trying to avoid sharing glances with Rolf's younger brother, Kalf for some unknown reason. Kira and Rebekah were talking about the other girls in the village while Elijah and Finn were paying attention to the conversation between their Father and the chief; Henrik was looking at the food.

A few years passed after the dinner, Kira was seventeen now and trying to understand why Henrik now twelve, didn't want to play games anymore. "Why not Hen, all of us still play it when we can" Kira tried reasoning with the youngest. "Because that is a children's game and I am no longer a child. You should all do the same" Henrik replied in a proud voice trying to prove himself to someone. Kira couldn't help but laugh a bit at her little brother's response. Ruffling his hair she responded, "Keep thinking that for now; you will regret it when you're older"

The two were walking to their home when she heard Finn calling her name. "You can go on Henrik. I'll be right there." Henrik nodded. "What is it Finn?" she asked rather curious considering she rarely spoke to him and Niklaus. "Give me your word you won't tell anyone"

"Very well, I give you my word, what is it you wish to tell me?" she instantly replied wanting to know what was Finn hiding.

"I need you to be on guard that no one sees me leaving our home?" he responded quietly making sure nobody that passed by heard them.

"You're disobeying the rules? Why?" she asked full of curiosity considering Finn was the only one who didn't break the rules.

"I do not want anyone to know that I am with Sage" he blurted out.

"Finn Mikaelson escaping at night to see a woman whom his family wants no interaction with. This is fascinating…I won't tell and I shall help you if you help me" Kira proposed rather amused that the saint and mother's favorite was breaking the rules for a woman, that only Kira got along with. "Will you help me?" he asked once more. Kira nodded in agreement, Finn smiled. "So what is it that you want in return?" he asked crossing his arms. "Just like you want to see Sage in private, I want to see Brandr"

"I though, in fact many though that you didn't get along with him"

"Well we do fancy each other and I can rarely spend any time with him no thanks to Kol" she responded with annoyance remembering every single time she tried to talk to him Kol showed up and started a fuss for no reason. It was obvious Kol did not get along with him since they met.

"Very well; we have a deal sister. Remember tonight at midnight" he told her and left to continue with his daily chores that were soon to be over. Kira sighted knowing this was not going to be a simple and short task considering Mother usually stayed up late to send a prayer to the spirits.

Everything went as usual until it was around midnight both Finn and Kira were leaving through the window trying not to make a sound. She was following her brother until they saw the fiery red head that Finn was in love with. "Kira, what are you doing here?" Sage asked in a rather calm voice although when she glances at Finn you could see the annoyance in her eyes. "She's here to warn us if someone is coming. She gave me her word that she wouldn't speak of this as long as we did the same for her and Brandr" Finn answered even if the question wasn't for him. "In that circumstances thank you and we will keep our end of the bargain" Sage responded looking at the seventeen year old with a real smile. "You're welcome"

"Let's go Finn we have little time" Sage said as she took Finn's hand and pulled him a bit far from where Kira was going to stand guard. Ten minutes hadn't passed and she was already hitting her head against one of the tree trunks out of pure boredom.

"You seem bored" a voice said from behind Kira. She instantly turned around tensed and rather scared, but relaxed when she saw it was Brandr. "What are you doing here?" was the first thing that came to her mind. "I should ask you the same, but I already know the answer to the question. The truth is I saw you leave and I was curious where you were heading at this hour" he answered truthfully. "That makes as much sense as this tree." Brandr laughed at her response. "Probably, did you ask your siblings to keep watch for us to meet like your brother and Sage just did?" he asked placing his hands on her hips. "Finn agreed to it. That's one of the reasons I'm actually here hurting both this tree and myself." she laughed at the end comment. Brandr smiled and placed a kiss on her lips. She blushed, as she loved the feeling of his lips on hers.

"I will see you tomorrow" he told her before leaving. Once he left she went back to the tree, but instead decided to practice using her magic, making the flowers at the bottom of it bloom. Finn and Sage came back and parted ways. The Mikaelson's managed to sneak into their home with ease thanking the spirits that all of their family was asleep. They said their thank you and good night before going back to sleep.

Three more years had passed, and every time Kira could meet up with Brandr they did although Rebekah learned about the two and helped when she can. Elijah and Henrik suspected it, but weren't sure. Kira was braiding Rebekah's hair since she's been doing for the past years when Henrik entered their room.

"What is it Hen?" Rebekah asked not looking at the youngest direction. "A new girl named Tatia arrived. It's what everybody around the village is talking about along that she had a child out of wedlock."

"That certainly is something we've rarely seen. Done" Kira commented, letting go of her sisters now braided hair. "Thank you," Rebekah responded. "Is she pretty?" she asked standing up from the bed. "She truly is. She hasn't been here for a day and every man wants to court her including Elijah and Nik" Henrik answered, adding the last part.

"That is going to cause some trouble" the two girls said at the same time worrying of what was going to happen if they actually took this seriously. Trying to forget about what their youngest brother told them they headed to the market place to get some fabric to make new dresses for the upcoming feast.

The girls returned home to leave the fabrics they got while Kira decided to go to Ayana's home to practice her magic a bit. "Child, is something bothering you?" Ayana asked, putting away some talismans.

"It's something simple relating to the new girl Tatia." the Mikaelson told her as if it was nothing out of the ordinary, but once Kira heard her name though she didn't want to tell Rebekah she had a bad feeling as if an omen of sorts like that dream she had years ago.

"You sensed it to; that something is going to happen relating to her?" the older witch told the young one. Kira nodded. "Did my Mother sense it to?" the young one asked. "She did and is rather concern for, you probably are aware that Niklaus and Elijah have taken a liking towards her"

"Yes Henrik told Rebekah and me"

"Ah young Henrik knows too much for his age and his curiosity is something truly special" Ayana commented on the little one. Kira agreed Henrik was truly something and the one that kept the family together.

Months passed and twenty year old Kira was walking to the usual spot where she met up with Brandr. Spotting him she tapped his shoulder. "I though you weren't coming" Brandr joked kissing her cheek. "My family is chaos since Tatia showed up and Kol is trying to get over Astrid's mysterious death." Kira said that, Brandr tensed, as if he knew something about it and wasn't going to tell. Kira dropped the subject although she wanted to know what wasn't he telling her.

"I didn't think Kol fancied her?" Brandr asked even if his eyes showed no interest in the subject

"He has since he saw her but neither did anything and well sadly he's not over it yet and it hurts seeing him like that" Kira replied with a sad smile as she placed her arms around his neck. "I can't imagine how that must feel"

The two continued talking until Brandr walked them a bit deeper into the woods where a simple sheet was placed with candles around it. "What's this?" she asked with a curious smile.

"I want to show you how much I love you and I hope you feel the same." Kira knew her father and her mother, no, her family would be disappointed for what shame this would probably bring, but she truly didn't care. She was in love with him and just like he wanted to show her, she wanted to show him. Brandr noticed the smile that was beginning to appear, giving him the sign that he was hoping for.

The two were lying on the blanket he brought covering themselves with another as they looked at the night sky. "How would you think our parents will react to this if they find out?" she asked looking at him to see his reacting. "They would disapprove but don't think of that love, think about us. And stop worrying of what other would think and trust your feelings or in your case your magic" he told her; his eyes full of comfort as he looked down at the girl, no woman, he loved removing a strand of her chocolate brown hair from her face to fully see her again.

"Thank you Brandr for everything" she whispered, kissing him once more before resting her head on his chest. A few minutes passed before they had to leave and make sure nobody spotted them. "I will see you tomorrow" Kira told him with a big smile, fixing her hair.

"I give you my word that we will" he responded putting on his shirt. Once everything was put away he gave her once last kiss before they went their separate ways. Kira ran into Finn that was keeping their deal. "Thank you brother, I truly don't know how to repay you" she hugged him with all her strength leaving him a bit confused, but followed his sister into their home with ease just like all these years.

Kira still had a smile on her face, but it faded once she saw her father, Mikael was furious. Finn was in the same state as her, but Mikael let him leave unlike his sister. "Finn already told me why he was out now it's your turn. And you know I don't tolerate lies from any of you"

"Yes Father" she answered looking at the floor.

"Look at me! Where were you at this hour?" he demanded.

"I couldn't sleep so I went for a stroll around the village "she lied raising her face so she would look at him.

"I would've believed that if it wasn't that you arrived with joy. Now who is he?!" Mikael asked once more as he kept getting angrier.

"What are you speaking of Father?" Kira tried to act as if she knew nothing, but her father wasn't a stupid man. After all Mikael was once a wealthy land owner in the Old World and he still carried that power.

"Tell me Kira who is the boy!" Mikael screamed.

"You're going to wake up the rest of us" she responded in a whisper trying to calm her father down, but with no luck after all he had a temper.

"I could wake up the village if necessary. Answer me!" he finally snapped. Esther, Elijah, Finn, Niklaus, Kol, Rebekah and Henrik came out of their rooms to see the image in front of them. "Brandr" she mumbled. "Mikael, what is going on?" Esther asked looking at her husband and her scared daughter.

Mikael slapped her. She looked at him with hate, "Brandr Rolfson" she replied in an angry voice keeping her head high showing him that she didn't care. Everyone in the room was in shock especially Kol until it turned into the same angry expression their Father had.

"You can all leave" Mikael ordered and so they did. Kira stayed strong until she arrived at her shared room with Rebekah where she let her tears fall placing a hand on her cheek. Rebekah held her close, a few minutes later so did the rest of her siblings except Kol came to comfort her, especially Niklaus, as he was the one who grew used to Mikael's abuse.

They all slowly started to leave when she managed to calm herself although Niklaus was the last to leave. Rebekah left leaving those two alone, which was rather strange since they rarely shared anything together. "I know we barely speak, but unlike many of our siblings I know how it feels maybe even more of what happened. I cannot blame you as it has happened when I try to see Tatia."

"What are you truly trying to say Niklaus?" she asked not seeing the true point of the message.

"If you need someone to relate in this, you can talk to me" he told her, his eyes full of pure honestly along with the pain of what has happened with Mikael throughout his twenty-four years.

"Thank you, Nik" she responded hugging her older brother. He looks at her and notices the mark is beginning to darken. "I should call Rebekah and tell her to try and make the mark less painful and visible." Nik told her getting up from her bed.

After that incident with Mikael, Kira stayed a bit far from Brandr until one day he decided to talk to her whether it could get him killed or not. He wanted to know why the love of his life was avoiding him at all cost and his father; Rolf kept him away from the Mikaelson's. Kira decided to spend the day with her twin in a form of reconcile for the problem that happened, but it was hard since she wasn't the one that walked away, she was still in shock that Niklaus actually came to help and they weren't even close.

"Kol, are you still mad with me?" Kira decided to ask sitting down in one of the logs in the market place. Her brother was walking side by side until he decided to do the same. "Yes, but I'm also annoyed with Nik and 'Lijah. Their little affair with that wench really does not help anyone. And Mother is getting irritated"

The twenty year old was looking at her brother realizing that he was speaking the truth and she had to agree. Tatia was the beginning of the Mikaelson's end.

-I hope you guys like it. Sorry for the mistakes and how I do not own the Vampire Diaries. Also to answer the Guest question, Kol was in the character because when I first wrote this the OC option wasnt avilable and Kol was the closest thing to Kira (previously Kariza, also Brandr who was previously Vance) and maybe she is Jeremy's love interest ;) but it won't be easy. Thanks again and I hope that answered your question-
